Ready to be APL
Has anyone else noticed this.:look::look:

Yes I am a bit annoyed why you ask well....

When someone asks for advice and I give it, I dam near get shut down. Let someone else come in another thread with similar suggestions and they are all over it. :perplexed

I might not have hair down my back but my hair is very healthy and darnit I feel my contributions are very good.

Rant over

OP You always sound like you know what you are talking about to me:grin:

I applaud your confidence because I rarely give advice on the boards because I don't think my hair is long enough for my advice to be taken seriously. That's my issue as it is the issue of someone who doesn't take sound advice.

Funny you made this post. I was just about to rant how people with damages hair don't want to take advice from people who had healthy hair all their lives. Sillies. :ohwell:

If long healthy hair is someone's goal, they are not going to necessarily take advice from someone with shorter healthy hair. You shouldn't be annoyed by it.

I have noticed this also and honestly it is foolish just to advise from someone who hair is longer b/c what works for them may not necessarily work for you. I rather take advise frm someone whose has apl heathy hair then from someone who has see through wsl hair.

:yep: That's all that matters to me is that the person hair looks healthy. I've seen people with hair down their back, but it was busted like a poodles arse hair. :lachen:I won't take their advice from someone with jacked up long hair and if they work in a salon and their hair is jacked, they can forget it!!! I've asked people with short hair what products they used because their hair was on point! The health of the hair is more important to me than the length. :yep:

I was annoyed and I'm okay with that.

Long hair is my goal as well, as it many others here.

If its technique then I dont see why a person can't atleast take it into consideration.

When I am looking for technique I look at a persons hair and their progress.

I would think that eventually if their hair is healthy short then it will grow hair long over time. Everybody has to start somewhere.

you aint neva lied.

I even look at someones hair in a ponytail. If it is too tight or your edges and nape are gone then nope I am side stepping.

It can be short sighted as people who have experienced damage could well offer some very valuable advice, especially if they've gone from having a head of damaged hair to a head of healthy hair. Their contributions can be just as valid.

awww thank you I really appreciate that. I am on the come up, I tells ya.

You should give advice though we are all here to learn.

Just about everything I have done to my hair was bits and pieces taken from various members regardless to length.

Exactly:yep::yep::yep:

I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this board.

Myjourney2009,

Did someone actually respond to you in a hair thread saying something like, "I'm not taking your advice because you're hair isn't long"? I'm just wondering how do you know that ladies are not taking your advice? Just wondering...

I think all advice should be put out there with no fear.
There are so many people on the board if it helps just one person that is great in itself.
OP your hair looks very nice in the pic to me. Long Hair doesn't make you a pro and short hair doesn't make you a student. I just want to be able to enjoy it.

Keep your advice coming. Don't deter from offering it.:)

Long hair does not always = healthy hair which was my case...my hair was long all my life but it was not necessarily healthy

I think ppl opt to take advice from long hair ppl b/c they think the proof is in the pudding...but this is not always the case...

I have some cousins with beautiful long hair and if I took their advice I would be bald head

When my hair is down my back, I am going to keep a list of members to ignore:yep::yep::yep:

That's kinda funny to me! Well hey, your tresses look very healthy to me! Keep doin what your doin! Keep offering your advice. If others wish not to receive it, well then they can just stay stuck! :D

This is a general trend on the board. Sometimes people with short hair have to shout out their 'credentials' to be taken seriously, It's madness.

kinda like : "i have a twa right now but my hair was ankle length last month so I speaks the truth"

It's true. And some people only take advice from people with the same hair type as they have.

That's okay.

But that's different IMO, taking flat-iron advice from a 3a when your a 4z is not going to work... but healthy hair, be it long or short, is healthy hair.

I'm sorry but this reminds me of the thread about would you let a stylist with damaged hair touch your head. I hope everyone who posted in there and posted here has coinciding comments. Anyhow OP, I can certainly understand your frustration. You very well may know what you are talking about, and from the posts that I have seen from you, you DO know what you're talking about. But for me personally, I look at a members join date... Then I look at the length of their hair. If someone has been here for 4+ more years and hasn't gotten past APL, I'm not as eager for their advice in comparison to someone who has been here for 4+ years and is MBL. Granted that's not always a fair assessment. Many things could contribute to someones lack of progress. Freak accident set backs, scissor happy stylists, etc.

All in all op, don't be offended. I understand where you are coming from, but I do also understand why some might be hesitant. If you are giving good advice and someone doesn't want to take it, just chalk it up as their loss and keep it pushing.

Would the advice be all that different whether it comes from someone with long healthy hair or short healthy hair???

How different can good advice be???

That might be a bit off putting to some, I never looked at it from that perspective. I never thought to look at a join date because although I joined in 2007 I did not use the board until 2009. The reason being; I was natural (FEB 2008-Sept2009. I did not feel not feel this board was natural friendly so I only read this board once or twice and then went elsewhere.

If I do see a fairly recent join date then I read a few posts to see what they are about.
