Ok ladies. So last Sunday I took down my crochets I had in for 4 weeks. I haven't used any direct heat on my hair since I began my transition 13 months ago. I purchase the Solia flat iron like a week or 2 ago, and really really have an itch to see my hair straightened! Plus my hubby's b-day is coming up next week and I would like to wear my actual hair (been in sew ins and crochets alot this year). He likes my hair however I wear it and doesn't complain about my slight hair obsession, :) but joked with me yesterday and said, "baby if you straighten your hair, I'll take all the pics you want lol. "(He takes them for me now, but sometimes it's like pullin teeth ha ha.)

The weather down here is so hot and humid, so I'm wondering if it will be pointless to do so? I figure if it doesn't last long atleast I can get it out of my system and I'll straighten again probably for Thanksgiving, which was my original plan anyway. I'm thinking that I'll atleast be able to get some better length check pics and maybe I can end up doing flexi rods or bantu knot outs or something if my roots go poof? Humm...whatcha think ladies??

Oh btw I plan to do a rollerset first, then flat iron hopefully just the roots.

Pointless and a waste of a good heat session! I haven't str8end since February & i'm also itching but i'll satisfy myself with a roller set this Saturday & save the heat for cooler weather.

I know discodumpling, trust me, that's what I've been thinking too! I wasn't even going to entertain the idea but curiousity is getting the best me know lol. I was going to go back into a sew in this weekend, (my mom does my sew ins) but she's not going to be able to until next weekend. Humm...I may just rollerset and that's all. Atleast if that doesn't last long, It won't really matter to me lol.

Well.....unless your expectations are for it to only last through a picture session I wouldn't do it because that's probably as long as it's gonna be straight before going poof, lol.

I hate putting a lot of time and energy into something for it to be ruined in a couple hours so I wouldn't even bother...not to mention the heat you will be using.

^I agree with Poka :yep:

OP....I feel you...I want to straighten my hair too but I know...I just KNOW it's not gonna be worth it because it is just too friggin hot and humid right now. This Georgia weather is NOT conducive to me wearing my hair straight at the moment. As much as I want to get it done, I'm gonna go with my trusted weather-proof curly puff and be done with it until the weather cools and the humidity lowers.

But just think...you'll have just that much more length to look forward to once you 'do' press it. :yep:

Lol scratch your itch, just make sure not to turn the heat too high. I live in Florida as well and I think you should go for it. Just make sure you have a good plan. It sounds like you do. Do a good moisturizing DC. Your roller setting and flat ironing the roots sounds good. If you have Sabino or any other humidity blocker then you can try that.

Either way, Im sure your hair will be cute in whatever style you choose to do.

Aww thanks Poka, for popping in the thread and replying! You're right **sigh** lol.

So true! I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking to myself, "well if I wait til Oct/Nov, I should be closer to MBL then." The las time I saw it straight I was barely SL :)

I live in Tampa and had an itch to straighten my hair this past sunday. I had just taken out my yarn twists and wanted to do a length check (Okay, and I wanted some swang :look:). I bought a maxiglide a few months ago and I was itching to use it. I knew how the weather would affect my hair, but I did it anyways. When out and about, I just wore my hair in a bun or a french braid, but I got to take it down and play with it at home. I finally had to wash my hair last night, b/c it rained yesterday, causing my hair to begin reverting anyways.

It think it depends on what your expectations are. I never expect to just wear my hair out and down while out and about, but if you do then you may just wind up upset in the end.

Also, I'm glad to report no heat damage.

see above post. I accidently hit submit but went back and completed my post.

Oh ok, I got it now. Thanks for the info! Makes sense about putting it up when you're out and about. So for the most part sounds like it held up for a few days?

Yeah, it really did. Had it not been for the rain, I think I could have least made it one or two more days. The ends frizzed a little, but I wore headbands to smooth that back some. I really liked it. I was doing the southern teased bun with it, that I always see in one of the other ladies' avatar and I loved it.

Ok ladies, so a little update....curiousity got the best of me, what can I say!! lol. I went ahead and straighted last night!! I still can't believe I did it, being that I haven't had my hair straightened in over a year. I'm sooo glad I did it! Even if it doesn't last long, I got some good pics, I was able to do an accurate length check, and got to see how much my hair has really grown in a year. But thanks for all the suggestions. I kept them in mind, but then after I did my rollerset I just "had" to see if straight for once. :)
