Wig as a Protective Style? Pix Added!

Okay, after reading numerous posts about Instant Weaves and Wigs as a protective style, I thought I'd give it a whirl! I think I like it, but if you've never worn a wig, it definitely takes some getting used to. My fiance's initial reaction was "whoa- love the haircut-" until he figured out it was wig /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyhoo, it's a great way to give me a TOTALLY new look, and try the layers and highlights I'm sooooo envious of many of you for having without the commitment.

I wore it to the mall a couple of times- got great reactions from guys, but ladies kept staring so I think it looks "obviously fake." The hair is synthetic, so maybe I'll try to find the same style in human hair for a more natural look.

I posted pics in the "Protective Styles" album.

Thanks Hiza and Chinagem!

I'm looking at the site you sent Chinagem, and there are some really cute ones! Which one are you getting?

You look great in the wig!!!! I like the layers and the bangs. You remind me of Mya in the face a little bit but you are prettier (duh). Now I want a wig /images/graemlins/smile.gif

the wig actually looks really cute on you.

Im surprised, because wigs just umm rub me in the wrong way. But when you have beautiful hair like yours underneath it really doesn't matter. Haha

All those girls at the mall if they only knew what was under that wig, that they were looking at funny like ugh.

Hey SG /images/graemlins/wave.gif, it looks gorgeous on you! I never considered a wig before, but maybe you're onto something /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif, lol. Looks great /images/graemlins/up.gif!

I love it!!! It looks really good on you. I love the bang. I want one too. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm coming to home to DC in a couple of weeks and I'm going wig shopping. Maybe you can come with me, because I want one like that. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Absolutely beautiful, SouthernGirl./images/graemlins/clap.gif I love the way it looks on you. /images/graemlins/smile.gifI want a wig./images/graemlins/cry3.gifOh, and I love your bun pics. I can't wait until my hair is longer and looks as full as yours./images/graemlins/up.gif

I haven't worn a wig/fall since I started my hair growthing journey. I was going to wear one on Halloween but found it hard to cover my hair and not have the "lump." How did you camouflage the "lump?"

This wig looks really nice on u /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Just brush off the stares... ur doing what u feel is best to protect ur hair. ((I bet they didn't have half as much hair as u do))

The wig looks good on you, Southern Girl. /images/graemlins/up.gif You are also beautiful. I've been thinking about trying out wigs too. Would you mind sharing where you bought yours? TIA

I want a wig now! /images/graemlins/smile.gif Yours looks great on you SG. Don't let other women discourage you from wearing it.

You look stunning in that wig! Maybe that's why you were getting stares by the women /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I love it!!!! I looks great on you. It does look like it is your hair. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Believe it or not, my MOTHER put me on to that site. She was sporting this very natural looking wig at my sister's wedding this summer and let me in on her little secret.

The wig does look really natural, I like that style. I've been thinking of wearing one when it gets really cold and windy out. It's a great way to protect your own hair from the elements.

Thanks so much everyone /images/graemlins/kiss.gif for all the great compliments!!!

I feel SOOOOO much better. I've been out all day so I didn't get a chance to answer your comments/questions so I'll try to do it one shot /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ayeshia- That's really nice of you! Funny, but I get the Mya thing a lot! I'm flattered, because I think she's beautiful!!

Kitchen- We can definitely go shopping when you come up here!!! Just let me know when you're coming and it's a date. I got the wig at this little beauty supply store not far from where I live. The wig is by Sensationnel (I may be misspelling), and she had a few more in other colors. Some had lighter highlights. What's nice is that it's very lightweight. I didn't really have to do any styling to it, but I did cut a couple of inches off the back so it would be closer to my real length. I'll take some back shots of it later.

Allandra and Audra- I haven't really done anything special w/my hair the few times I've worn it, but if I decide to wear it for an extended period of time I'll probably try to put it in braids (maybe "plaits" or just a few cornrows). I'll have to experiment to see which way works best. I've always worn a wig cap underneath, and what I've done is twist my hair into a damp bun (like a cinammon roll) at the nape so it's small, then put the wig cap on, then the wig. I have a big head (most hats fit me snug), but the cap inside the wig is adjustable, so you can fit a lot of hair in there!

Ya'll should really try it! the biggest thing for me to get over was thinking people are staring because it's not my real hair, but I've decided to look at it as an accessory- like a scarf, or hat that I can change whenever I want. Besides, many women have hair extensions (especially entertainers) and they look beautiful so what the heck do I have to de self-conscious about??

Thanks again everyone,
SG

Trustmelove, Hairlove, Dreemssold, LorraineG, Modelchick, Peachtree, Kitty, Jennifer, Chinagem, Kaddy, Babygurl, Aerie, Msportugal, A Christian, and Nyambura:

Thanks for all the great feedback! I feel so loved /images/graemlins/drunk.gif!
All of you have truly been inspirations to me, so it's always nice to be able to give a tip here and there when I come across them. I'm thinking... maybe a WIG CHALLENGE might be in order sometime in the near future??? The Winter might be great for the added warmth! I couldn't imagine wearing one in the hot Summer months. Chinagem sent over some really cute ones so take a look if you haven't.

Nyambura, I'm in the DC area so I'm not sure if the store would be accessable to you, but I can get the style number and name and post it so maybe you can get it online? BTW, the wig cost $27.

Thanks,
SG

I love it SouthernGirl! /images/graemlins/grin.gif I will definitely look into getting me one for the winter !
