I cowash very rarely, relaxed or natural--it's fine for my hair depending on what I was using, but absolutely terrible for my scalp. I have very oily skin, including my scalp, and cowashing did not leave it clean at all--I would end up itching and practically gouging out chunks of my scalp from scratching due to the residue left on my scalp from cowashing. Once I found a sulfate-free shampoo that worked for me, I wash 1-2xs a week, depending on how hot it is and how often I'm working out.

koolkittychick My scalp gets super irritated if I leave conditioner on it, too. I don't rub the conditioner on my scalp, I just rinse really well first, then run the conditioner through my hair--no conditioner laden scalp rubbing for me lol. If I want a clean scalp, I shampoo.

On average, I wash 2x a week and co-wash once. This is why I don't need to moisturize my hair daily.

When I was relaxed, I washed every 2 weeks to a month.

Any reason? I mean do you not wear your hair straight?

diadall Reason: I reeaally enjoy it:grin: Plus in my mind my hair enjoys it too...well for sure it isn't detrimental.
I usually wear my hair in a bun but I can still wear a straight style if I want (I airdry with my hair hanging down). If I wear my hair out I usually put it in 2-4 bantu knots overnight (after cowashing when I'm 80 percent or more dry) and it comes out wavy in the morning.

When I was relaxed, I washed every 2 weeks. As a new natural I washed 4-6x/wk, then I settled into washing 2x/week, then once a week, now I'm pretty much back to every 2 weeks.

That sounds about right for when I was relaxed. I didn't see the point of getting my hair wet for no good reason when I was relaxed. That's why I had a relaxer because I wanted to wear straight styles without all the fuss.

Relaxed and I shampoo/dc 1x a week and cowash around 4x a week.

Sent from my Comet using LHCF

Relaxed head: I wash/deep condition weekly and co-wash twice a week. I actually don't like my hair bone straight. I usally wear wigs, bantu knot outs, braid outs as a protective style.

I agree with this... I hate wearing my hair straight....because I love the curly look

When I was relaxed, wash 1x/wk with poo never cowashed cause too much drama lol :P

Since being natural, if I am WNG that week then its about 4x during the work week I co-wash and 1x poo on Sat or Sun. If doing a braid or twist out, then just 1x poo to cleanse out the products used to retain the style for the week.

I cant see any relaxed of the relaxed women I know cowashing more than once a week.

I tried co-washing when I first joined this board. It is not for my relaxed hair. I wash/condition once a week and if I can manage to stop putting so much product in my hair throughout the week, I may move up to only washing every two weeks.

When i was relaxed i co-washed 2-3 times a week and shampooed/DC'd on the weekends.

Now that i'm natural i co wash almost daily. In cooler weather tho i co-wash every 3 days.

levette I'm so sorry...i never saw your question. I do not have issues with detangling at all. I do finger detangle, I use a seamless comb sparingly. As for shedding, it is consistent with each wash.

That what I thought.

When I was first relaxed I washed once a week or two, from salon visit to the next.

I just can't see washing out a new do two days later.

Cowashing daily gives me styling freedom. I will do a bantu knot out one day a straight bun the next, then a wavy style the next based on the number of bantu knots I put it. I cowash at night and I simply set my hair how I think I want to wear it the following day.

Yep, this is exactly why I cowash so often!
