Who Was Your First Hair Idol?

ETA: I didn't really idolize anyone past the 90s because by that time, I had already been taught that only mixed girls had long hair. And I definitely shouldn't hope to have long hair because I'm dark-skinned. So I assumed everyone was mixed or wore weave. Aaliyah was still my idol (and still is) and I also loved Fancy's hair from the Jamie Foxx Show, but again, I never thought I could have hair like that.

sister sledge... I used to look at pictures of them and just dream of hair like those beautiful ladies. They were such a positive role model for black hair...

Sera. A fellow LHCFer. Before I even heard of LHCF, I discovered her fotki when I searched "Long African type hair" or something like that don't exactly remember, but after I perused her fotki I was instantly inspired and my whole idea about African hair changed. She was the first one to dispel the belief that had been drilled into my brain since childhood my type of hair was "bad" and would never grow beyond neck length. I was absolutely FLOORED when I saw that this girl had hair and skin like me and her hair had grown from less than an inch TWA to thick, beautiful waist-length in 5 years! Previously, she had tried all the conventional methods of black hair care (relaxers) to grow her hair that had been barely neck length her entire life before she chopped! That was 2 years ago, when I chopped my natural hair off twice in a year due to my ignorance and impatience. After being inspired, I went from nearly bald to 2 inches from APL since then, but it's a heavily layered near APL (which is why I won't post pics just yet) so I still have alot of work to do.

Lol, This thread brings back memories. I'm pretty sure the first celebrity head of hair I drooled over was Crystal Gale's. She was a singer or some type of celebrity from way back in the 80's and had hair well past waist length. I also dreamed of growing Wanakee and Ashley Banks length hair, lol. ETA: Can't forget to add Lisa Turtle's hair and of course Aaliyah.
