Who Was Your First Hair Idol?

i would have to say my mom....her hair was long and luscious and i used to get teased about her hair being fake when i was in school. i used to argue with my classmates all the time because her hair was down her back long and it wasn't fake. she was the first woman i knew with midback length hair AND she wore it natural, no relaxer ever.

next was WANAKEE for sure. Her original Essence interview. I was a weee bit. but i remember when she did that article ORIGINALLY! LOL!

later came CHILI from tlc and SADE. (i also loved Tboz's haircut and Anita Baker, but my head is too big) :)

Man...I loved RUDY'S hair. When she got to be a preteen and they let her wear it just blown out and in the huge ponytail or just down...:lick: I was just in LOVE with her hair, still am!

And now...just as gorgeous:

Now that I think about it all the women on the Cosby show were natural - at least at some point.

I wasn't really into hair like that until I started participating more on online forums, the first person that I remember being hair crazy over was

1)Roshini/Glamizini I remember when I use to go to roshini.net and check everyday hoping that one day she would come back after her wedding! lol. Then in 08 she made a comeback in a big way.
2)LovelyMissYoli (old hair school playas boi! lol)- baby girl gave a lot of us inspiration on how to style our natural hair in a fly funky way. Definitely a trend setter.

I really liked Aaliyahs hair. But I wasn't really drooling over it because back then I thought it was hopeless, and I would never get hair like that. So I just admired it. But now, its def attainable.

Me too :yep: I loved her hair in the "We need a resolution" video. I remember watching that video just to see her hair:

I started putting a jet black rinse in my hair after that. I also loved when she started dying the ends in that copper color, but I wasn't brave enough to try it.

I liked how she had curly hair/wavy hair/puffy hair one day and straight the next. I wish I had a picture from that Diet Coke commercial she did. She was HAWT.

EDIT: FOUND a TAB commercial
YouTube - 1984 TaB Commercial with Jayne Kennedy

Also, I loved Amel Larrieux because I thought my texture was similar and I just wanted her length. I think I'm close!

Dang Waves, you went back on the Jane Kennedy Tab commercial she was kind of free styling...Too funny!

Honestly, my first hair idol was my mommy. She always had beautiful hair when I was growing up that she would set on rollers. She kept it shoulder length by choice and wore her hair very full with big curls. My grandmother would be next. She had thigh length hair (I guess that's the right term...it would grow as long as her thighs and then she would cut it to shoulder until it grew to her thighs again). I also liked Jayne Kennedy (because she looked so much like my mother...I once thought my mom was on the cover of Jet Magazine...hehe)....and then of course Sade.

My mom was my very first ever hair idol. Outside of the home, Kenya Moore would definitely be number one. I was mesmerized by her and when she won Miss USA, I was ecstatic- a beautiful dark-skinned, long-haired, intelligent woman- there is hope for us all, lol!

I watched the pageant that year. I lost my mind when she won.:drunk:

Alrighty,

This forum exists because we want long healthy hair. Who had the first head of hair that made you say, "I want hair like that!"

For me it was Darcel Wynne of Solid Gold. I didn't know if her hair was all hers or not, all I know is I wanted it!:lachen:
darcel_bio_pic.jpg

I don't know if that was all of her--it was braided at the roots then loose. All I know is that this chick could dance he behind off, and I wanted a figure like hers so bad.

Notice how it's braided a few inches and then loose after that--I think all the hair was added for the dramatic effect of her dancing:

Of course, I admired the hair of the women in my family. Oh, those ladies... :) I had some especially stylish older cousins.

The female who kept me going as an adult is named Pamela and lives in... England? She has a fotki. I accidentally came across it in '08 and she unknowingly made a big difference in my hair and life! I think she's waist length now. Okay, I'm out. I'm starting to sound like an Internet stalker... But, I'm not. Promise!

Aaliyah was my first celeb idol. I cut out a pic of a pantene girl from back in the day, I don't know who it was though.

When I joined the boards, my idols were vester, sylver and auburn. They show me that what I thought was impossible is possible.

I'm racking my brain trying to think of someone but, i've been hair-blivious. Not only didn't I pay attention to my hair but I didn't pay attention to anyone else's hair either. My eyes were not opened to hair until I found lhcf. Then, a few heads blew my mind and became my hair idols. I hope it's ok to borrow these pics just to post here but, here are my first hair idols:

BlackBarbie :lovedrool: Length, style and color are perfection! :love4:

OMG - Cheryl Song!
I googled her and found some random info. She has cut her hair and works for the TSA.

LAX Employee Had Role in Jackson Learning the Moonwalk

The news of Michael Jackson's untimely death was particularly upsetting for one TSA employee. Cheryl Song, executive assistant to FSD Larry Fetters at Los Angeles International Airport, knew and worked with the "King of Pop."

"I knew Michael in the early 80s when I danced on Soul Train," she said. "He asked me to dance in his Beat It video.

"After meeting privately with Michael, I put him in touch with some of my male counterparts to help him learn the Moonwalk."

Though she has not danced professionally for years, Song's popularity from her time with the Soul Train Dancers lives on. When VH1 recently interviewed her for a documentary on Soul Train, she said, "It was a great chance to catch up with old friends and remember a special time."

Song can be seen in the opening bar scene of the Beat It video and also appeared in Rick James' Superfreak video. She also helped choreograph a Lionel Richie performance on Saturday Night Live and toured Japan and the U.S. with Soul Train.

Also, a fun video - she was the first to whip her hair back and forth!
