"What did you do to your hair!?" (pics)

So today I wore a new hairstyle to work and I guess it was a little to different because my white co-worker comes up to me looking all upside my head talking about "What did you do to your hair!?" and I'm just like "um stuff" she says "I like it the other way better, with all the curls and stuff" I'm just thinking to myself wow how rude to say that, but ok.

The only compliments I got were from two black guys. *shrugs shoulders*
One guy said " I like your hair." and my friend was like " Oh that's tight man, you did that?" It was different to hear the totally opposite comments.
I liked it because it was different, but people have their own opinions I just wished they wouldn't be so rude when expressing them.

*The hairstyle she likes is in my siggie*

Anyways, here are the pics:

Girl, I wouldn't even stunt the haters. Your hair is gorgeous in both pics, and I'm envious of the creativity of your hair in the back, it's beautiful.

Girl, that hairstyle is on point!

...but let me tell you why she didn't like it:

Apparently it is considered faux pas for some "folks" to show their scalp. I remember dealing with this mindset in junior high school. The young ladies would style their hair on top of their heads with those metallic clip barrettes, and they would have always get "checked" by a counterpart if they were "too scalp-y".:lachen::lachen:

...I guess my cornrows were just inconceivable.

Sis, you rocked that style...Do your thing!

It's cute! Chile, you know white folks have no sense of style. They're so boring. Soon as you change something up, they go  They're used to a routine too. That's why they have casserole Monday's and all that mess! I knew a man that went haywire because his wife didn't cook casserole on Monday! :lachen: Ok, I'm just rambling. It was a cute style though!

lol, wow never heard that before. Thanks for the encouragement.

I don't like when people wear multiple hairstyles at one time. You've got cornrows, curls, and twists, and a ponytail. That may be the issue. Plus, some people don't like to see scalp.

ok, but the thing I don't like is when people give their opinion like I asked for it. I understand what you're saying though.

I hear you, but that's a different issue than what your hair looks like. You could wear pink and someone is bound not to like it.

If I were you, I would carefully consider what message my hair is sending in the workplace. Her off-hand remark may be something to consider.

I don't think my hair is sending any kind of message, I just think it was something totally different than what she was used to seeing. I don't think there is really a problem with it. It's not like I had my hair in a rainbow colored Mohawk or anything so...

What message could her hair possibly be sending? That she's ghetto? In tune with her blackness?. She should be able to wear her hair just how she wants. IMO it's a low key style. No one asked her co-worker for his 2 cents. I wouldn't consider jack.

Thank you, that's what im saying. There's nothing to consider.

All hair sends messages. Depends on the environment in which you work. If it doesn't apply, then don't consider it. Just giving you another view.

Normally I wouldn't agree with this sentiment, but considering the things that have been said in OT about Becky's sabotaging black women in the workplace...I don't know...it's something to consider.

i like it. i wonder why people think their opinions matter?????

lol thank you. That's the thing she needs to work on is not being so blunt and inconsiderate about people's feelings. I remember looking through a jewlery magazine and we came to a page with some pieces that another co-worker had and she didn't like and felt it necessary to say "Yea (co-workers name) has that, that s*** is ugly." Just rude.
