Unconventional Ways To Grow Long, Healthy Hair

I'll have to load up on my carrots.

Recently, I've been drinking a blend of carrots, beetroots, apples, ginger, and cucumber. I wonder if this will work in making my hair growing any faster.

mmmm brandy that sounds delicious. I would like to give that concoction a try.

I usually make natural juices but I want to get a juicer to make the process much easier. I usually use a grater to juice my fruits. I make Jamaican style carrot juice but it takes sooo much work to grate 8-10 carrots!

I've been meaning to buy a juicer and the Jack LaLain (sp) juicer looks VERY inticing but, i don't know if I could justify the cost.

I took baggies of baby carrots with me everywhere I went. I would eat them throughout the day, all day long. Well, after about a month of doing this I noticed my hair texture had changed, as well as my skin and nails. I continued eating them almost everyday for several additional months (about 9 months total). I'm not sure if it was the carrots or what, but my hair had grown about 8 inch when I took my braids out. I'm sure my keeping my hair in braids may have helped, but I have had my hair braided many times before and NEVER got that kind of growth before.

I must say, however, my family said I was turning orange, literally, like one of those "umpa lumpas" from Willie Wonka
grin.gif
I stopped eating the carrots and I promise you my hair texture and speed of growth changed. I'm thinking about adding more carrots to my diet again.

HTH, if not, carrots taste great.

lol @ the oompa loompa reference. There was this woman I knew who went on a carrot and coca cola diet for a year and a half, and she turned orange too, so your family could have been right

I thought the orange coloring to my skin was quite nice...I must have been the only one who thought so...heehee
grin.gif
No matter, I got some carrots today and I'm going to be like Bugs for awhile, even if it means turning neon orange

yeah yoga is good for hair!!! i'm taking it it at school as my gym class and it we just learned the sun salutation ( ti think taht is what it is called) a lot of that invloves hanging my head down

Here is some info about the skin turning orange from a website article called, Nutritional and Health Properties of the Carrot.

"Do not overdose- your skin will turn yellow! - It's called Carotenemia!
Consume too many carrots or drink too much juice and your skin, mostly the hands, will turn yellowish-orange. There are two possible reasons why your skin is turns orange. Either your body is unable to process all the carotene properly in the carrot juice you are drinking , or your liver is toxic. Either way, the colour shows up in your skin.

If you are having difficulty processing carotene:

You may be drinking too much carrot juice at once. Your body can't really assimilate more than 8-10 oz. of carrot juice at one time (taken on an empty stomach). So if you're drinking a bigger glass than that, you could be causing your own problem. Instead, try drinking no more than 8 oz. at a time. If you're trying to add extra carrot juice to your diet (possibly because you're fighting cancer and want the extra antioxidants), then drink 8 oz. of carrot juice and wait at least an hour before ingesting more. Your body can handle it at this rate and you shouldn't be getting discoloured skin."

There's more written about the orange skin in this article at

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, and I don't know the measurements of the ingredients; but when I visited with a Jamaican family, my friend's mom would make us a carrot juice using preboiled but frozen carrots (which would be crushed in a blender), then Carnation evaporated milk and condensed milk would be added and mixed in. Sometimes she'd add some vanilla ice-cream or just the essence and blend the mixture till smooth. The end result would be a peach-colored thick shake/smoothie that was filling and oh so yummy.

Carrot juice is really delicious and surprisingly sweet. The best is fresh or buy Naked Juice. I used to drink it on occasion, but it is expensive to buy in the health food store...maybe I'll just start juicing!

I think I am gonna pull out my Juiceman Jr. and do a little juicing. I haven't done it in a while but this gives me a reason to get that habit started again!lol

I was talking to a preventive medicine doctor (MD) last week, concerning my elderly dad, and he mentioned that carrot juice would help my dad by improving circulation. So maybe that's another reason why it helps with hair growth.

In the juice man juice book carrots are in the hair recipes and alot of the others, so they must be good for something,I have been trying to stick with carrot juice for a long time,

Hi Bellydancer! I'm the type of person who believes anything is possible, so though it's far fetched, I think it could happen. Now, I don't think Riquette advertises that her hypnosis tapes can make hair grow three inches a month, but I think if a person can will themselves well from illness, why can't they will their hair to grow. Like I said before, the brain is very powerful, and we only use a small percentage of our brain power

Funny you should mention hair growth in relation to juice recipes. I just pulled out and dusted my juicing book (would never have thought of looking for hair recipes in it, so thanks for the tip.

Hair-Growth Cocktail

2 dark green lettuce leaves
Handful alfalfa sprouts
4-5 carrots, greens removed

Bunch up lettuce and alfalfa and push through hopper with carrots.

I agree. People can even will themselves sick. The mind is so very powerful. I think the power of suggestion works all of the time for all of us, even when we don't realize it. I've learned that repetition of thoughts and ideas will eventually help make it happen. Visualization can only speed it up.

And this board is kind of like a hypnosis...don't you think?

I know my thoughts regarding hair growth and what is possible has been totally reprogrammed since joining this board and I can see the positive results with my hair!

That sounds too good. I would like to make it but I don't want to guess on the measurements though

Bellydancer, I decided to look up carrot juice in my Caribbean cookbook and there's a similar recipe there with measurements. This one doesn't use the evaporated milk so my guess is it won't have that milk-shake whitish look I remember. But here goes:

[ QUOTE ]
Carrot Juice

<ul type="square">
4 cups (32 fl oz) canned or fresh carrot juice
14 oz (400 ml) sweetened condensed milk
ground or freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 cup (2 fl oz/60 ml) rum, optional
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
raw sugar, optional[/list]

Pour carrot juice into a large pitcher. Add condensed milk and stir well. Add nutmeg to taste, rum (if desired), and vanilla and stir well. If desired, sweeten to taste with raw sugar. Serve well chilled over ice cubes.

"Kombucha Tea ... I used Kombucha Tea and must truly admit .. it made the hair on my legs, arms and underarms grow like crazy. And, the hair that grew in was heavier and coarse. Friends of mine who also drank Kombucha Tea said the same thing ... especially the women. We used to joke about having a 5 o'clock shadow on our legs, and ... we weren't too far off the mark because hair growth was definitely stimulated by drinking Kombucha Tea. "

"Another friend continues to drink it and has done so for years to prevent baldness, hair loss and for general good health. After all these years, I'd say he is convinced."

"Kombucha Tea can be used as a hair conditioner and scalp toner, being massaged into the scalp and rinsed. "

[/ QUOTE ]

I did some research on the Kombucha Tea and it sounds like it's pretty remarkable! Besides all of the other benefits, it really is supposed to promote hair growth and turn grey hair back to its original color. And once one buys the starter for the tea, the supply is supposed to last indefinitely!
I don't know if I could handle all of the other hair growth though....

I'll have to think about this one.

Thanks! Back to the health food store I go!

Edited to add:

Those who are interested in carrot juice, the best carrot that I know of so far is the "Baby Luv" carrots. They are the absolute sweetest. My kids will eat the miniture carrots right out of the bag if I let them.

mmm now u kno that aint no way that u can say summin bout hair grwth and not have me try it out. Ima start it now and see what kinda results i have by tthe time i take my weave out.hope this worls ya'll

I would like to try this also. I'm really interested in the results. I've tried the yoga pose you have recommended and I definitely feel all the blood rushing to my head, so we may be on to something.

Here's another yoga exercise I'm going to start doing, maybe twice each day. I used to do it regularly, then dropped off (for no good reason). It can be found in the book called,
"Richard Hittleman's Yoga 28 Day Exercise Plan", a great book, by the way!

Scalp Exercise

For the Healthy Appearance of Your Hair

1) Sit in cross-legged posture. Grasp hair firmly at roots.
2) Make scalp move as much as possible, first forward, then backward by pulling vigorously.
3) Perform rhythmically and not too quickly 25 times without pause. Relax.
4) At conclusion of movements scalp should tingle and feel "alive"."

Thanks for the tip! They sound delicious!

I want to mention for anyone who buys carrot juice to please check the expiration date first. Carrot juice goes bad within just a few days in the fridge. You'll notice that it will start to get slimy. I need to return a carton of frozen carrot juice today that expired a few months ago! It didn't taste as it should.:o

It's carrot juice mixed with milk, condensed milk, vanilla, nutmeg and sometimes some rum. mmmmm tastes reallyh good

For some reason this site hasn't been allowing me to post any messages (error in the system i guess. What did I do?!

You're not still having a problem with posting bellydancer, are you? It's nothing you did, it could just be a temporary glitch.

Send me a pm if the problem persists and I'll talk to Nikos about it.
