I would like to join this challenge also. I currently do not have a regimen.
I just BC'd today (second time around) rocking a low cut ceaser. I will be uploading photos to my fotki very soon.

Thanks in advance everyone good luck!

I'd like to join in too, if it is not too late! I do not currently have a regimen as I am still trying to find hair products that work for me. Any suggestions?

hi ladies,

My hair is giving me h***. I am back to square one and it is getting the best of me. This weekend I plan on sitting down and writing out a routine that I plan on following until our next check in. Something has got to give.

Off to bed ladies...this summer school is draining me:eek:

HHG ladies!

Hang in there tishee. I hope things get better soon. I just hit my 3 month mark since my 2nd bc and this go round my hair is really showing it's personality. Last year when I was at this point with my first bc my crown was more wavy than coily. Well this time my crown is super coily and can hold braids and twists well and the back which was especially dry and kinky is showing more and more coils as well, although they are smaller and fewer. So just when I had accepted that I had all these texture variances (wavy crown/kinky back with lots of shrinkage) it is finally evening out a bit (coily crown and back). So I'm just saying hang in there, maybe your hair just needs a little more time to reveal itself. And once you find the right products and regimen, it will be on!:)

Hey y'all.

I'm sad. I'm back to where I started when I began this challenge several months ago. I had a Dominican blowout for a wedding I was attending in mid-May only to find that I had dry ends in patches (over each ear, in the back near the nape, in the very front - just the very ends) and had my hair "trimmed" the next week. Well, the trim was really a cut but she still didn't get all of the dry ends. I ended up going to Ellin LaVar's salon here in NYC and the stylist cut me again (less than a month after the first cut and after deep conditioning and moisture surging overnight for over two weeks straight). My hair is very short now - about 2 inches again (like it was in February)! I'm so discouraged. On top of this, I now need to touch-up my relaxer/textlaxer because the ends that used to be on my hair were curly and gave some oomph to my style but now they're gone so I've got to get it together. Keep me in your thoughts.

...Well, today I decided to touch-up with Mizani instead of Affirm (thinking that maybe the Affirm was helping to dry out my hair). Worse move I've made yet. I only left the relaxer on 7 minutes from start of application to rinse and my hair is now nearly bone straight. I was aiming for a more relaxed texturizing but I got the other end of the spectrum. I'm sad and confused. I'm not sure if I am going to just do Dominican blowouts and just work it that way or if I'm going to get some braids or twists and keep them long enough to have enough NG to BC again. I'm really pissed.

I'd like to join this challenge too. I've got a long way to go yet with growing out my natural hair. I'll need reinforcements!

BamaBelle sweetie I am so sorry to hear this. Along the lines of advice I do not have much to offer b/c my hair is bringing out the beast in me and I have idea what, when, how and why to do anything anymore:perplexed :ohwell:. Just know that if you need a cyber shoulder to lean on I am here for you sweetie.

take care

Welcome to all the new people.

Hugs and kisses to all who struggle. I also struggle. I "Still" have no regiman. It seems like I change my regiman every 3 weeks. I need to stick with something. I was doing the Neosporin, now I am doing MSM. I will do this for the month of July and switch back to MN in August.

 ladies,

I am SO sorry it took so long to post my pics for the 7/1/06 check in....I am NOT computer savvy at all.

My current regimen will be:
-cw twice a day w/Suave's citrus smoothie followed by DD water lily. Apply Oyin's greg's juice(once this runs out I plan on purchasing Giovonni direct leave in), scurl, and nexxus botanic oil to my ends.

-I will deep condition once or twice a week with Loreal's mega moisture, AG rhoussal condish, or Suave humectant using machier's(sp) techinque.

-I plan on purchasing AO's gpb and honeysuckle rose conditioners as well as ORS oil replenishing packets....have yet to figure out how I am going to fit them into my routine ;) but that shouldn't be a problem.

Ladies how often are you doing protein treatments? And are you using heat? Naturals how do you know when you hair needs a protein treatment vs. a moisture treatment?

Tishee, your hair looks good. I don't realy use protein on my hair much, I love the ORS replenishing pak which I believe is a very mild protein, and even that can be too much sometimes, I use it for my deep con every week, sometimes every two weeks. If I leave it on longer than the recommended time it will dry my hair out and make the shrinkage really intense. For the most part my hair just seems to love moisture, braids, twist and being left alone.

thanks hopeful! I am going to pick up a packet of the ORS this weekend and try it Sunday. Do you mind me asking if you use heat with it? If so,for how long?

thanks in advance

Most of the time I don't use heat. I wash with con then dc with the ORS pak, sometimes I also add in some of my dove moisturizing con, I also add warm/hot water to my hair after applying the conditioner, seems to help it penetrate better, cover with a plastic cap for 45 minutes to an hour. I have used a heat cap before (over my plastic cap) I think for like 20 to 30 minutes and that works great too, I'm just too lazy most days to do that. I hope you like it, I think most people love the ORS pak. I am also a big fan of Oyin's Shine & Define serum, I use that for my twists, along with some oil and my hair feels like butter.:)

:bouncy:I'd like to officially join this challenge!!! When I was still a lurker, I read this thread and actually got some of the courage to BC from this thread. Technically, I've been following along since 2/14 (day of the BC) but it's time to make this official. I can hopefully come through and post some photos showing where I started out and where I am today.

Keep on growing!!

Woww... that is a lot of hair! Personally, I don't think hair grows even, at least mine doesn't. So if you are cutting to keep it even, you may want to reconsider.

wow, I had come to this decision today....my hair does not grow even.  :(

Hey guys!
I started growing out my relaxer in March and cut the relaxed ends in May, so I've been sporting a TWA for a couple months now, but this is my first time seeing this challenge. I would like to join (despite the challenge being halfway over hehe).

For a while, I thought my hair majorly grew unevenly, but I recently realized that it's just the difference in the textures of my hair that makes it LOOK like my hair grows faster on top (where my curls are A LOT looser) and slower on the sides (where the coils are very tight), but when I actually compared strands from each side of my head, I saw that they were the same length. Maybe this is the case with you guys also.

I'm still hashing out the details of my regimen, but right now I...
Wash every 2 days with Pantene's clarifying shampoo
Condition with every wash with NTM's Daily Conditioner
Deep condition twice a week with NTM's Deep Conditioner
--Sleep with deep conditioner in my hair and rinse in the morning
Apply NTM's leave-in conditioner to wet hair
I usually rock a quasi-messy fro.

I'm still looking for a good serum or something like that for more curl definition.

I'm type 4a and I've been getting .5" of growth a month
