for me...it's neck to shoulder. I want all around shoulder lenght hair and that right there is a slow process. I'm getter there though with some patience and TLC. i just threw in some braids so i don't have to look at my hair everyday waiting, tapping my fingers...

i pray on this mang!!!!

I am begging for apl.... I am almost there. i think, but my sides are still about two inches from apl, but it is taking forever.. I have spent my entirer time here begging for APL

It took a year and a half to get from SL to APL!! But this is the second time I have been at APL, and last time I was at BSL on time. This time again, it's cruising along, and I will be BSL by the end of 01/09 or the beginning of 02/09. I get 1/2" a month, and I was BSL when i cut it 4" back to APL back in June which means eight months until I get back to BSL.

I'm afraid this will be me. :nono:

I've been lower shoulder length/collarbone length before and had a setback putting me back to square 1.

To me it was/is from APL to Brastrap it took me more than one year:ohwell: and I'm not full brastrap yet!

thats how I feel. I claim it b/c it is but not to me. I know that might not make sense but to me it does:perplexed

right about now I'm convinced that I will NEVER get to MBL. I have been around BSL my whole life. I just want to get across this hurdle.

For me, going from APL to BSL is the hardest. I had a set back last year, and one this year and it's so frustrating :wallbash:. I never had problems going from SL to APL. I have 8 months to go and need 4 inches to make BSL :ohwell:

I am the exact same way. Even when my hair was approximately chin length after I did a mini-BC, it only took me about 4 months to make back a little past shoulder length. From there it took me about 6-8 months to make it to apl. BUT NOW, trying to go from APL to BSL is taking its toll on me. I swear my hair is fcuking with me sometimes because I can stretch one day and it appears as though its touching the top of my bra and the next it barely looks past apl ...but that may be due to my scissor happiness though:perplexed

Hmmm.. I can't help but wonder how many ladies in this thread have actually *been* neck length or above, in order to compare... :scratchch

I voted SL to APL because in theory, it seems like that would take the longest (with the hair brushing against the clothes). But I have to wait til I get there to see. :yep: Right now it seems like it's taking a long time to get to neck length then to SL. But hopefully by next summer I'll be a bit closer.

I've been placed above neck length 3 times. It took me no time at all to get to shoulder length, and around a year to get to my collarbone. But I have yet to be APL in life. :ohwell:

Without a doubt, it's SL to APL. But oddly enough for me, I've been past shoulder length all my life. I've never had trouble getting past SL and on my way to APL, but for some reason, prior to LHCF, I would end up cutting my hair right before APL because it looked thin or lifeless or my ends looked see-through or split. Basically I never gave myself the chance to see how long my hair could reach. I just wanted healthy looking, THICK hair. So even though I know my hair can grow, and it does so well, the challenge is to get thicker, healthy-looking hair. Prior to LHCF, I've never stretched this long, nor have I ever really worn protective styles consistently. Using No-Lye and not moisturizing properly were probably also the culprits. Since joining the forum and changing my habits, I'm happy to see how far my hair can go without me cutting or getting frustrated.

SL to APL ..it took me 6 months to go from jaw to grazing shoulder...now I'm in between shoulder and ALP doing everything healthy ,consistently, and still I feel like I'm going up hill:ohwell:...Well there is no where to go but up..It will take as long as it takes...I'm never giving up until I hit BRS..
Still..I'm happy just to have natural , healthy, hair!

I think a lot of us have never been past shoulder length, so thats why the shoulder length to Armpit length seems like torture lol...
I think APL to brastrap wont seem so bad because we will have already acheived what we previously thought was impossible for us.

I second this :look:

I always had hair a little past shoulder length all my life, so growing it to APL took effort, but wasn't extremely difficult. For some reason I think that growing it from APL to BSL will be a challange for me. I've never had hair nearly that long before!

It is definitely SL to APL for me. My hair has always been a little past SL, but now it is APL and it took forever to get there. Oddly enough, it is literally zooming to BSL though, so I don't anticipate it taking too long to get there. I think I am about 2-3 inches away! I think by next winter, I will be swangin' MBL.

Definitely Sl to APL...I have been lurking in between SL and APL for the last two years. Everytime I think "yes i'm almost there" I have to get my ends trimmed and I lose most of my progress. Dealing with the stress of law school and the harsh water in Philly has really hindered my achievements. The funny thing is that during my sophmore and junior year of college I was actually grazing a little past APL and I took it for granted. People would say "oh, your hair is so long" and I wouldn't believe them. I was greedy - I wanted my hair to be longer. Now that it's gone I examine my hair every wash week to see if I can see any progress.

For me the APL to BSL was like watching grass grow. But BSL to MBL has been one challenge after another for me. Sometimes I want to just call it a day and be satisfied with what I have. Other times I see how close I am and tell myself not to give up. I am a good 2.5 to 3 inches away from a solid MBL. I am going to give myself until spring 08.

I've been to APL twice in the last 2 years so I wouldn't say that's a hurdle. So far I haven't had many length challenges. It got there a little behind my schedule but right time for itself. For me, I think finding the right moisture/protein balance was my toughest battle.

Definitely SL to APL for me! I've been a little past SL before, but I'd always do something to it to hinder my process. I used to highlight, constantly change relaxers, blow dry, use curling irons or just plain not moisturize or wash for weeks! But since LHCF, it's been slowly but surely creeping towards APL. I'm not full SL like how I want it to be before Dec, but I'm happy that it's a lot healthier and thicker like when I was a child.

It's kind of scary since I have NEVER been APL before, but I will keep going till I make it :yep:

I voted APL-BSL. It seems like it's taking forever to get to full BSL. Hoping for December though:yep:.

SL to APL, hands down. It felt like forever. I believe that the factor of having your hair so close to the collar when it IS down adds to the challenge. APL and BSL are close to each other (for me, at least), so it didn't feel like it would take long. I'm almost there now!

I voted nape to neck. For me, I am having hell at this length because I can't do crap to my hair. No buns or phony pony help is available for me!

From shoulder to armpit was the worst hurdle for me

and i think it is for most people

its an awkard length to be

SL to APL, Hands down.

I mean take a look around you in public. You see every black woman STUCK at this length. Its usually in between both. :ohwell:

Why is it so hard to get past this length. I'm stretching now, but if I'm not seeing anything near APL after next my next relaxer, I have to Re-evaluate the whole growing hair long Sitty a Tion. :nono:

For me it's been APL to BSL, my hair is probably an inch or so longer than it was in the pic and that was 8mths ago. I had cut my hair to APL in Aug 06' and it was almost BSL by Feb.

I slacked off big time in the summer, so I'm just now getting back on track. But this has been the slowest transition yet and I've layed off the scissors this year. I dont even want to think about MBL.

On the up side my hair has thickend up tremendously.

Noooooo Dannie_19 don't say that :nono:.. I'm working towards BSL now and need 4 more inches to get there... Getting from SL to APL was a hurdle but dang I hope getting to BSL won't be as bad....:ohwell:

I chose SL to APL because I'm about 3 inches from APL and has been for a while now. I intend to change that in 2008 though. My regime will include more stretching and protective styling for at least 6 months or longer which began October 1st this year. I expect some major changes by April next year. My ultimate goal though is BSL by April 1st, 2009.

For me, it's getting my hair below my Neck and Collar. I have never been longer than Neck Length in my life so getting to SL would be like, a miracle
