My hair has been Neck Length all my life. I think it might be slighty collarbone length but I am natural and I tempted to straighten it out to see how long it really is.

I must start using most of the techniques of this board, perhaps my hair grow longer. I wish I could get my hair to SL

Definitely shoulder to armpit. I've reached armpit before but it just seems so difficult when you are actually watching it everyday and paying attention to the length.

Definitely try some of the things on this board. I'm doing my hair to night (I'm about three weeks post relaxer) and I can already tell that my hair has grown a bit. Not nearly shoulder length but certainly brushing past neck length.

Even though I have not reached APL, I really do think that hitting SL was hardest for me. My neck is really long - nape to grazing SL is almost 6 inches. SL to APL is just 3. APL will (hopefully) be a breeze compared to getting SL.

I voted neck length to shoulder (b/c I have layers :nono:), but I also meant to choose SL to APL. I've never been APL before, and deep down I am nervous (and terrified!) of what that will be like. There is a part of me that would be content if I was full shoulder length (as that is my comfort zone) and that be the end of it. I really want MBL, but sometimes it seems so unattainable...I'm going through it w/my hair thoughts right now :ohwell:.

I voted SL to APL! I've been trying to get ot APL for over a year now. I came close a few times but then had setbacks. Right now I'm on track to hit APL by the x-mas reveal.

I think for those that have never had hair longer than sl or nl like myself APL is a real stuggle. Ladies that have been apl or longer before and cut back to sl dont seem to have as much trouble reaching apl.

I think SL to APL. I also have never had APL much less SL so its a struggle. I have been between SL and APL for about a year now and it seems like it is the toughest thing to get past. I think I am going to up my moisture and protective styling and see how far I get by spring 08.

I think a lot of us have never been past shoulder length, so thats why the shoulder length to Armpit length seems like torture lol...
I think APL to brastrap wont seem so bad because we will have already acheived what we previously thought was impossible for us.

I've only had all my hair below my neck once in high school most recently. So i voted nape to neck. I figure, if i can get to that point, the rest should be easy...i hope:perplexed

It seems like for me its shoulder getting to apl. It has taken forever. I really dont know the amount of months because I started with layered hair from neck length in the front to just above shoulder in the back. SO all in all its been a year and few months and I am now somewhere around armpit

That's exactly what it is for me. All of my life, my hair was baaaarely shoulder length. So right now, trying to get to armpit length is seriously messin with my brain, like watching grass grow

If my hair was all one length, going from shoulder to apl wouldn't be so hard, but because my shortest layer is ear length, it seems like it is taking *forever* for my hair to grow out. I don't want layers again for a long while!!

I must admit though, I am my hair's worst enemy sometimes. I've been past shoulder length plenty of times, but as soon as I approach APL, I cut my hair. :wallbash:

SL to APL...its been really rough:sad:

SL-APL had me so discouraged. It does take forever. My hair would go from BSL to WL in a year w/no prob... and then it would go from a boy cut to SL in 1.5 years w/ no prob.

SL-APL is like a multi-year multi-trim battle.

I think protective styling and refusing to even trim until you PASS your goal is what gets you over the hurdle.

Weaves and kinky twists got me there... because it is tempting to start "doing" your hair and wearing your hair down :nono: Don't fall for that trap! lol

Right now i'm tryna get to bsl and its taking forever! The fron is creeping past my chest but the back is stubbornly a little past
armpit and my crown, don't get me started:wallbash:

See that's my problem too. My hair is in layers.

So I think my toughest growth hurdle is getting the crown, front and sides to be one with my back ends. Last night when I stretched my back ends out, it was reaching below my shoulders, now I know that's not right :nono:

So I need to get this hair growing all over evenly, so I'm pushing for even Collarbone :evilbanana:

Maybe for the next poll, Neck to Collarbone can be on the list because that's a bigger hurdle to get to for alot of ladies before they will be able to get to SL. Especially if they have had short hair all of their lives.

APL to BSL for me. I made it - like 2 or three hairs. I always have to end up trimming, or I experience some sort of setback.

SL - FULL APL is taking forever, I am hoping to hit it by december, but hopefully by my next touch up on 8th of Feb, I hope to be there!!

For me it's going from APL to BSL. The right and left sides of my hair is touching BSL but the middle is just taking its time. It's frustrating but I refuse to trim :ohwell:.

That's my mentality now! As much as I want to chop out these layers now, I know that I have to be patient and wait.

For me, going from APL to BSL is the hardest. I had a set back last year, and one this year and it's so frustrating :wallbash:. I never had problems going from SL to APL. I have 8 months to go and need 4 inches to make BSL :ohwell:

SL to APL. I believe I'm at shoulder/collarbone length right now but when I remove my braids next year, I hope I'll be close to APL. The best thing I've done is to put in braids, that way I won't be able to see my hair until the braids are removed.

Yup!!! Totally agree with this.

Hmmm.. I can't help but wonder how many ladies in this thread have actually *been* neck length or above, in order to compare... :scratchch

I voted SL to APL because in theory, it seems like that would take the longest (with the hair brushing against the clothes). But I have to wait til I get there to see. :yep: Right now it seems like it's taking a long time to get to neck length then to SL. But hopefully by next summer I'll be a bit closer.

It took a year and a half to get from SL to APL!! But this is the second time I have been at APL, and last time I was at BSL on time. This time again, it's cruising along, and I will be BSL by the end of 01/09 or the beginning of 02/09. I get 1/2" a month, and I was BSL when i cut it 4" back to APL back in June which means eight months until I get back to BSL.

Oh well i started out basically bald. It took about a year to get to mid-neck length. I ended up getting a cut once it hit mid-neck b/c the stylist said I had breakage and my hair was rough in spots. About 5 or 6 months later, I'm now at bottom of neck.

So yeah...I've been where you are right now. Hang in there!

I have had my hair only one inch long before, and not by choice either. I've been all lengths, and have had MANY setbacks so you can guess how happy I was when I made BSL the first time. I got too excited and played with my hair all the time, and it started to break so i had to cut it back to APL.
