Nope... I know where I am.
I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings but I was being frank...
That's always been my experience.
Obviously I admire women with hair that long...
it takes a lot of time and effort to maintain that...
but IMHO... FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN...
It comes off as dated/homely/plain... or
the polar opposite which is stripper-ish...
I might even add "bohemian" like a belly dancer, an artist, or
something... it's very sexy & very admirable but
I don't think it's practical for me and it won't fly in
the corporate world either.

I said " pornstar /stripper-ish" and I was being light-hearted...
because having hair that long could come off overly-sexual...
that's why I said I would love to be proven wrong...
show me a women with hair that long that
doesn't look dated, stripper-ish, or bohemian...
I'm open-minded and I'm curious to see how she
pulls it off. It's a hard feat and a very very fine line.
I'd be happy to give props to her if she exists.
Challenge me.

I don't know if these will meet your challange or not, but here are a few ladies that come to mind.

Flowerhair, Chicoro, Supergirl, Pokahontas, Candy_C, Cichelle, JewelleNY, KittenLongPaw, Qetesh, SweetCashew, bubblnbrnsuga, and unlvgirl, just to name a few.

ITA. That may not be WHO they are but they'll typically look/or be stereotyped into one of these categories. Not that I don't want long hair for myself.

...thinking of a spinoff.

I don't know if I could do more than APL in its natural state and I think THAT is pushing it for me, lol

Obviously, what may seem "stripper-ish", bohemian, etc. is relative. I could go and find 20 fotkis and you would probably say they all look like one of the three stereotypes you have.

Maybe it's not a good analogy: But if I show a racist white person pictures of beautiful black women, they will always find something wrong with them to prove their point or subconciously hold on to their way of thinking. They are biased so what point would it make?

I don't mind looking bohemian, so I guess it depends on if you view bohemian to be negative or positive.

Even in the corporate world, buns are acceptable. Just responding to your comment but in the end, do what is best for you. I will in no way try to make you seem odd, unrealistic be startled by the fact that you are happy with whatever hair length you choose. It's your hair, why would I care?:lachen:

Do you think East Indian women with wl hair look like strippers?

Oh and I love Loveya's hair and she doesn't look like a stripper, librarian, or Bohemian to me. But hey, who cares what I or someone else thinks anyway?:lachen:

When I got to waist length, I had to cut it back to brastrap length because it took too much time. It was taking up to three days to air dry in bun. Plus living in Louisiana and dealing with the heat and humidity for most of the year makes wearing my hair down like having an extra layer of clothes on.

Wow! So glad I live in a cold state? But what will happen if I move to a hot state, like Texas? It'll be crazy.:lachen:

I don't think women with WL hair look like strippers regardless to their race. I think WL hair is beautiful.

Yeah, I thought most people were looking at in a black/white issue. I've never heard anyone on my campus say, "That Indian girl looks like a stripper with all that hair." But I guess some people identify white or black women or maybe women with long hair period as being strippers. Just guessing. I never thought of it that way but :ohwell:.

No, I'm not shocked by folks wanting to see how far they can grow. I'm actually surprised that so many are willing to put limits BEFORE they even get there!

To each her own. I don't think folks can know for sure how they will really look or how much time will be required until they're there and I'm not limiting myself yet. When it gets too much, I'll know. And the solution is so simple, it's a no brainer . . .ummm, I'll just cut it. For a fact, the longer my hair gets, the less time and energy I spend on it, the longer and healther it gets. Me happy and me want to see how long me can grow this here hair.

Everyone has own style and while may not be appealing to me, it's their style and while I may think is too much to handle, too long, too plain, to striper-ish, too librarian-ish, bohemian, boring or whatever, girlfriend rocking her hair and enjoying her own unique style. :yep: Shoot, it's her hair, her time, her energy, her choice. Obviously.

You raise a very very good point:thumbsup: and I think you are right:yep: Why are we putting limits on how far we could grow our hair? I'm not even full BSL yet. Most black women don't even realise they can grow hair down their backs with the right care. I think I'll adopt that attitude, if it gets too much for me to handle, or I think I prefer it a shorter length over a longer length, I'll cut it. It can't hurt anyway. Ultimately, we can do whatever we want...it's our hair.

It's shocking to see how many women REALISTICALLY
want to be Hip Length and Beyond btw.. that DOES include
Floor Length, Mile Length and whatever else is BEYOND
Hip Length... for those of you who wanted to choose
none of the above/never too long... Maybe my poll is a little bias,
but my logic was that anything beyond Hip Length was
extreme, I really hadn't anticipated so many responses
under that option, but this is LHCF.

I just can't believe women REALISTICALLY want hair that long.
I know we dream about it blah blah blah and who wouldn't want to
have hair that long... in a fairy tale... so it makes me wonder if
women truly answered the thread realistically or if they were still fantasizing... is anybody else as shocked as I am?

I don't understand what is so unrealistic about someone wanting their hair to grow beyond Hip Length. Just b/c YOU think that it's a fairytale or a dream for someone to achieve that length, doesn't make it so. :nono:

Sure, hair that is down to the floor, a mile long and more is BEYOND Hip Length. That's a given!

Your poll question is:

Some of us don't think that Hip Length and beyond is TOO LONG for us. So, clearly we can't vote for any of your options.

some of these names look familiar
I'm gonna check them out now

The members that GoldenBreeze listed have such beautiful hair. :rosebud: Camellia, Lala, Lucia, Irresistible, VintageColiyLocks, Zanna and others do, too. So, make sure that you check them out, also.

I agree with you and besides I don't mind looking bohemian at all:yep:

I'm trying to reach WSL but I think that it will be too long for me and I will eventually cut long layers into MBL length.

For my lifestyle/career I'm trying to decide if MBL is too long. I keep hearing/reading that inthe corporate world a short haircut is deemed more professional - not sure if I buy that or if i'm willing to cut my hair at this point.

ITA w/ the bolded! I just want to see if it can grow to WSL. I'll eventually just stick to a full, layered MBL (kind of like Macherieamour's). It will probably stay in a bun also due to my future profession.

I agree with you and besides I don't mind looking bohemian at all:yep:

I think the bohemian look is cute, especially when you have the small braids here and there to go with it. Too cute girlfriend.

I would be like, the beautiful black girl that stands out in the crowd.:lachen:

TOO LONG? Is that even possible, lol

No, seriously, I think once it hits calf length, it's just too dang long. How would you manage the activities of daily life with your hair that long? I can barely muster the energy to flat iron my hair as it is... (and lets just say it's nowhere near my calves)

I think waist length would be unmanageable for me....MBL is my goal and even then I'll have to see if it's doable.

Dang, I never thought I'd come to a long hair board, grow long hair, meet others who love and want long hair then be told it WL hair looks like a stripper or a porn star:perplexed.

I'm kinda shocked but it's all good because I dont think I look like that and I don't carry myself that way.

I think anywhere from APL-BSL would be okay for me.

Anything beyond WL looks hippie-ish to me. :imo: Most people don't look right with hair down to their butt.

Where have you been? Just check the past few features of the month...

aaesthetically speaking, id say hip length , wether that be hip while straightened or hip length while natural.

Hair is like everything else.
You have the moderatism and the extremism.
We all want long hair or else we wouldn't be on
Long Hair Care Forum.
But now after this poll... I see the difference ever so clearly.
There's long and there's extremely long
Some people just have no earthly desire to have hair past BSL
for whatever reasons... to each her own.
Funny how people get so defensive and take things
out of context, what do you care what I or anybody else thinks.
I sure in the hell don't and if I did grow my hair HL or Mile Length
I'd be the FLYYEST "stripper bohemian librarian" you ever saw.
Ya'll need to lighten up... it's not that deep!!!

None of them have hair past HL.

Just a reminder. The poll question asked, "How long is too long for you?"

Many of the people voted HL or longer, so that means that waist length wasn't too long, which is what most of the women whose fotkis you were directed to have.:yep:

When you started to say people look like a stripper and what not, I would've thought you've seen the fotkis mentioned before but I see you just joined. So obviously, I nor did many other members know what to think. Everyone has an opinion but often times, people use their opinion in ways that may offend others. That is something I've always held to as an adult, to express my opinions without being unnecessarily brash or offending to others. I think there is a general consensus that "stripper" isn't something that average female strives to look like.:yep:

Anything past bsl/mbl is too long for me. Honestly, for me, I prefer style over anything when it comes to hair. All of my fav hairstyles are either apl/bsl/mbl and I LOVE layers and I think a fly layered cut would look fab with the lengths I mentioned. Anything beyond that wouldn't look on me especially since I'm short and I don't find layers really work on longer lengths. I don't doubt that I could grow hair longer than what I desire but it isn't what want. I don't see that as putting limits on what I can achieve especially if I (as well as others) know what would work for me. JMO.
