To Baggy or Not to Baggy?

i baggy everyday..not at night. i use s-curl and evoo or mangobutter and coconut oil.'

when i started doing a regimen this method made a HUGE difference in my having split ends and retaining my lenght. it's too bad i didn't know about this before.

i am the baggie queen:weird: and stay in ponytails when i am not in this weave.

Yes. This happened to me as well. My hair is probably too soft for baggying. It broke off so I immediately stopped. I didn't even use a lot of product, only about a dime size for my ends only.:(
 
I tweaked and found out that with my fine hair S-curl with vaseline (don't cringe) or an oil works on my nape (it's incredibly dry) and just baggying my ends using sandwich bags without the seal and just plain olive oil. Virtually no split ends or breakage. Only when my ends are really dry do I use a light spray of S-curl sealed with olive or castor oil. :)
 
I just started last week, so I can't give a definitive answer yet. I was already in need of a relaxer when I started, but decided to stretch it one more week. I find that I'm able to comb the newgrowth much easier, and my hair is very moisterized. So far, baggying is a keeper!
 
My hair is fine and does not like to be wet or damp all the time. I baggy with a small amout of s-curl, etc and a lot of Liv or ORS carrot or sometimes Fantasia heat serum.
 
I am on a personal two month baggy challenge. I've baggied before with great success. To me, baggying is really for dry, crunchy ends and to help retain them and not allow them to snap off. This was a big problem for me before ever baggying. I've been only applying some jojoba oil to the length of my pony (while it's still wet) when I baggy but I think tonight I'm going to add a little DDTA, too. I can keep my baggy on for 2-3 days until the next wash day or CW and I've not had a problem with "mushiness". I CW'd last night and I lost very few hairs. Maybe 20 and I had not combed my hair since Sunday, so that was pretty good.

Just keep in mind that everything does not work for everybody.

Hi Texas QT - did you baggie your whole head or just the ends. Also, what products do you use?
 
I did it and stopped. After I get my much needed trim I will start to baggy my ends again. I think I was putting to much stuff on my pony. when I start again, I am going to be putting NTM leave in on my pony and only baggy at night. Before I was doing it night and day!
 
I say baggy. I understand now where you fine haired ladies are coming from since now that I have a relaxer my strands seem more fine if you know what I mean. But my hair is more prone to breakage when it is wet now. I just got finished taking off my baggy because my ends were feeling really dry but when I take the baggy off I just put it in a high pony tail and don't touch the hair because it is more prone to break off.
 
Also, be aware that if your hair is too porous it will be more proned to breaking with the baggy method. I believe that was the case for me when I tried baggying. I stopped that and I've just been very consistent with my apple cider vinegar rinses and porosity control conditioner to get my hair back on track. It is doing soooooooooo much better now! I will do the porosity strand test next month. If all is well, I will start baggying my hair a 3 evenings a week for about 3 hours each time. Baby steps for me...I don't want to have a setback.

I haven't given up on this. I'm going to try again. This time with something different. Instead of spraying my hair with my watery leave in, I mixed a little Giovanni Direct and a little of a homemade mix that consists of oils, butters, sulfur. I then applied it to my scalp and cornrows (I have cornrows with extension), covered with a plastic cap, and then covered the plastic cap with a nylon wig cap. Tonight's my first time trying this. I'll post an update within a week or so.

Hi Ladies,
I'm a newbie and I started the baggy process a couple of weeks ago but I had to stop b/c my hair was breaking. I guess there was too much moisture for my fine hair. Needless to say I am disappointed b/c it has worked for so many. Maybe I will give it another try but not sleep overnight in the baggy.

I ended it up not continuing after that one night. The very next day I thought of something that I tried and has been working perfect for me. It's simple and I get the consistent moisture that I want. I've been doing it ever since, 11 days now. If I hadn't taken another go at bagging I wouldn't have thought of it. I'm happy now. My regime is complete.

To baggy! Like others I thought it would not work for my fine hair either but I changed my method and it works great know. I baggy 3 maybe 4 times a week at the most and always the night befor I wash or co wash. I oil my scalp with my growth oil, moisturize my ends with a pea sized amount of sauve con and baggy my whole head. Not only does the baggying keep my ends moist I also believe it increases my growth rate by allowing my growth oil to work more efficiently.
Warm moist baggy +essential oils + castor oil blend= happy scalp

sssssp...what is it that you are doing now?
 
For the past week I have been spraying my hair with a leave in conditioner and scurl, sealing with oil and sleeping with a plastic cap on my head. My hubby doesn't love the new look, but he says that my hair is extra soft and shiny, so it must be working. :drunk: Of course reading this thread makes me worry about the possibility of over moisturizing.

this is exactly how i end up in the morning too. and then I don't have time to airdry it and style it so i look a mess all day... i don't think baggying is for me :nono: but i'll be willing to try it again for the sake of my endz :yep:
 
I'm thinking of baggying my ends. Does anyone use just oil in their hair/baggy or do you use a moisturizer first, then baggy?
 
Wow, ya'll do some sophisticated baggying! :lachen: I have fine 4a/b natural hair, and I baggy every. single. night - it's the only thing that STOPS my hair from breaking, esp when it's in twists.

I mist my hair down well with my mister (water, glycerin, and conditioner) right before I go to bed, put a shower cap on top, push all the air out of the shower cap so that it's tight to my hair, and put my scarf on top of that. I ALWAYS have worn a scarf to bed (even when I had dreads) so ain't nothing different about that, and since the showercap is tight to my head, there is no crinkly noisy plastic sound all night.

I don't use anything to 'seal' my hair, and I don't use straight conditioner/product unless I've been wearing my hair out and exposing the ends. When I do that (wearing a puffro) I HAVE to put conditioner in my hair and baggy it to save my ends.

Obviously, my main hair issue is dryness. I think if you don't have consistently dry hair, you might not see such excellent results from baggying....

I read on SisterSlick's blog that you must always moisturize FIRST then seal with oil. If you only use oil only it will block any moisture getting into your hair. HTH

5-6 nights each week:

I rinse my hair (currently in cornrows with extensions) with plain water, towel dry, and then moisturize and nourish my hair and scalp with a mixture of Giovanna direct leave in and Jamaican black castor oil (nothing else). I then cover my hair with a satin scarf. My hair is usually dry (or barely damp) by the time I wake up.

Once each week:

I wash (once) with diluted shampoo with a little baking soda and then deep condition.

ETA:

I usually rinse my hair while I take my shower. I also bought waterproof pillow protectors (a must when doing this).

No baggy for me..I hate ponytails, I don't like mushy hair and it didn't help my ends. I am better off sealing my ends, rollersetting or lightly spraying with a leave in daily..
 
I like to baggy my ends only at night. I put my moisturizer on first then i seal with olive oil. When i wake up my ends are shiny and silky.

same here my name sake, breakage is all get. not for everyone.
 
Not sure if I've posted in this thread already...but if not...

I LOVE baggying! It keeps my ends so nice and moisturized. I've definitely noticed a reduction in breakage as well as thicker ends since I've started doing it.

However, I do it a bit differently.

I DO NOT put ANY product in the baggy. It's simply a protective cover.

I mist my hair with water so that it's damp, and then apply my moisturizer. I seal with a little bit of castor oil. And that's that.
