I know a lot of you ladies experience good results from baggying (either your pony or whole head) but some of you did not. Why do you think that is? I would think baggying would keep your hair very moisturized and strong instead of dry to the point of breaking off?

I just started baggying my pony for two weeks now and I am also stretching. I hope I get good results!

I am not interesting in baggy no more cause it looks funny with all this hair on the back of my small head, but i still protect my ends.

Well, you have to be careful with bagging when you have a relaxer. I baggy but make sure I take the bag off at night, and you have to be careful with not overloading on moisturizing conditioner. Atleast in my case. I think now, my hair is at it's perfect moisture/protein balance and it seems moistures absorbs in my hair more easily than when I was natural.:)

So are you saying that if your hair is over moisturized it can break off as well? Because of what? Being to soft? How is your hair when it is over moisturized?

I've been doing the baggy thing for like a week and honestly the only difference I see is that my hair seems to be breaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I noticed a bit of hair that actually flew the nest (not the normal shedding) and I'm trying not to be mad:mad:
Am I doing something wrong?
I only apply the MTG which has been mixed with a bit of hair oil before I baggy every nite!
Somebody please tell me what is going on??????:perplexed

I stopped, but I may try it again later.

I was doing whole head baggy and it overmositurized my hair to the point it got too mushy and started to break.

I also got tired of sleeping with that plastic bag on my head.

I started bagging this week. Wanted to know if my hair should stay damp the whole time.

I am natural and I wear a plastic bag on my ends then wrap in a scarf. I had to redo my baggy because my hair was coming out. My ends are really wet. I put aloe, black castor oil and boundless tresses.

Any help ladies!!!

I was doing the Whole Head Baggy but Honestly for it did nothing, I tried it again this past week and my hair was shedding like crazy, even though I am Natural and my hair loves moisture,I don't think it likes to be in a Baggy all night long, I was also applying BT to my scalp but I never noticed any faster growth, so this past week was my last full week in trying the 2 again and I just gave up on it because it is something that doesn't work for me, and like Onahairquest I got tired of that plastic bag when I go to sleep LOL!!

Are you applying the MTG on your ends?
Sulphur is very drying.

Not at all!!!!!!! I use it on my scalp and put a bit of conditoner all over my hair. Maybe the baggy thing isn't for everyone-I think i'll give it a rest........
I agree with the 2 ladies about being tired of sleeping with that bag on my head!

bumping 4 responses...is there a correct way to do ths procedure I might be doing it wrong for the ends and entire head

Call me Bag Lady!

I baggy my whole head at night. I haven't been consistant lately, but when i was, i noticed my biggest surge of growth. I was applying MTG to my scalp, and then moisture (like hair activator or a light/mild leave in...sometimes i would just spritz a little h2o for moisture) smoothed on my hair shaft from root to tip, and then sealed with a little oil (like dabur amla, olive oil, coconut oil or hot6 oil).

In the mornings, my hair would be more wetter than the night before due to persperiation, so i would take off the bag and let it air dry in a semi-lose ponytail, or in my satin bonnet until it was 50% dry, and then put on my bag again until i MTGed and remoisturized again that night.

I would co-wash every other day, wash every 2nd co-wash, and clarify and deep condition my hair once a week. Bagging would be done 5 to 7 days a week.

I loved my results when i did this all the time. First my hair got thicker, and then longer. I havent noticed any more breakage/shedding than usual when baggying. I havent been doing this as much as i should because i've been lazy and too complacent with my progress. Another reason why i've slowed down or stopped is because i'm not at home as much as i used to be, so going thru the process of baggying at night, drying and (protective) styling in the morning every day has just seemed like too much work.

Now that I have a little more hair than i had, i feel like i slowed down on my hustle, but i need to get back on the ball so that i can make APL by Christmas this year... even if it means getting up 30 to 45 min earlier to get my hair right for the day.

Your hair:eek:   What a BIG DIFFERENCE!   In such a short time!!!!!

Did your hair always grow fast or just when you started this proceedure?

I don't know about the ladies who are using BT, or MTG on their ends. That seems like it would leave your hair dry. I don't baggy, but I will probably start when I get my next trim, to ssave my ends. I would think that you should use a good moisturizer and then seal with an oil, and then use the baggie to really trap in the moisture. Some of the other ladies probably have much more advice

I voted to baggy..
I baggy just the hair that hang loose from my ponytail. When my ends begin to feel dry I use a moisturizing product then seal with oil overnight then remove in the morning.. Baggying work for me b/c I am trying to reach APL so it keeps my ends from getting dry when rubbing against my shirt....

i tried to baggy but i sweat too much at night so in the morning my hair looks like i have poured a bucket of water on it. also my hair is already overmoisturized so it just makes a bad situation worse

The baggy method has helped me tremendously! I only baggy my ends during the night or if I am at home during the day. When i first started doing this method I applied proclaim gloss to my ends at night before putting them in a baggy. The next morning i foundmy hair to be to fragile moisturized. So, now, i simply put the baggy on my ends secure it with a scrunchie (eliminated the proclaim gloss or any type of moisturizer) and go to bed. I've found this to work for me

it seems like ladies with fine hair have breakage from baggying. Ladies with really thick hair are the ones who benefit most from it. just an observation.

My hair seems to like the baggy; I have fine strands, but my hair is very dense.

I don't get my hair very wet. I spritz lightly with my water, glycerine and oils concoction, then I smooth a little bit of creamy leave-in over the ends and top (I add oil to my leave-in as well). Sometimes I also seal with a little bit of castor oil. Then I cover with a thin plastic shower cap. My hair isn't wet when I wake-up, just moist.

It probably helps that a couple of weeks ago I have over-proteined my hair, so it needed the moisture and softening.

I know this question isn't directed at me but I'll respond anyways. Yes, overmoisturized hair can cause breakage. That is personally why I stopped baggying my ends. You'll know if your hair is overmoisturized when it becomes too soft and feels kinda mushy and limp. It's kind of hard to explain but when it happens, trust me you'll know. I believe that if you're one that has dryness issues with your hair or need assistance in retaining moisture, then baggying may be for you. I've never had problems with dryness but thought baggying was necessary to retain moisture but I was wrong. My hair holds moisture just fine without the aid of a baggy. All I need is a moisturizer and an oil for sealing and my hair remains moisturized all day. Too much of anything is never good for your hair and can cause damage/breakage.

Oh yeah, my hair is not fine and I still had problems with overmoisturization and breakage where baggying is concerned.

thanks! Actually my hair seemed to grow slow before (except for my bangs, they always seem to grow fast). The only time it seem to grow fast was when i wore braids or constant sewins. In the past, whenever it DID grow past neck length, my hair would seriously break right back off back to above neck/around ear or shorter (ie. thinning, seethru to the scalp/ almost balding areas in the back) because of all the dumb hair practices i did (relaxer every 4 weeks, spritz, gel, hairspray, pulling, constant heat, no enough deep con, no trims etc). It was depressing... until i discovered this site (and other sites like it)... now is the first time in years that i'm retaining what i grow.

Baggying/MTG has been inconsistant/nonexistant for the past 3 months for me (lazy:p )... I need to get back on my baggy/MTG/vits ball so that i can reach APL by Christmas (my first goal)

Thanks Nixx. I will take that into consideration. And no, I never had a problem with dryness either. I just thought I would try it out and see. But I better keep a close eye on my hair to make sure I am not over doing it.

What you mentioned (bolded) is good information.

I have problems with dry hair. Even if I sleep with a satin scarf and satin pillow you would never realize. When I don't co wash, I sleep with a plastic cap, and I only use JBCO. My hair remains soft and moisturized, when I do this.

I definitely say baggy!:yep: My ends have improved SO much. I just use S-Curl and seal with WGO or Doo Gro Mega Thick. My stylist even complimented me on my ends and didn't think a trim was necessary.

I voted to baggy, but I would not baggy the whole head. I baggy my ends occassionally, when they feel dry & I find this helps to alleviate this problem. When I tried baggying the ends every night, I did notice some slight breakage as others have mentioned so I only do it on an as needed basis & baggy based on my hair's needs at the time. I primarily use a homemade spritz & seal. Recently, I have decided that products w/petroleum & mineral oil are not evil & put a touch of Perm Repair on the end of the ponytail, twist or braid, sometimes I'll still add a touch of my oil/butter combo, castor oil, or just a butter depending on what I think my hair needs.

I had to stop. It was leaving my head way to moist and that began to really irritate my scalp. Wearing a bag on my head at night was ruining my marriage as well.

To baggy for me. I've been baggying since January, and my hair likes it a lot. I baggy the ends during the day, and whole head at night. It isn't for everyone, and as others have said some ladies have problems with it.

There are some things that can be done if you find that you are too moist in the morning.

1. Place a couple of wholes in the cap or baggy. This allows air flow, but keeps a fair amount of moisture.

2. Use less moisturizer or a different moisturizer, and seal with oil. The amount of moisturizer that is used without the baggy is too much with the baggy.

3. Use a thin silk scarf under the baggy.

4. Take the baggy off early in the morning before you get up, and put a silk scarf on. By the time you get up the extra moisture should be gone.

5. Take the baggy off as soon as you get up, and put on a silk scarf while you are doing your morning prep. Remove the scarf, and style.

Maybe one or a couple of these will help, if not the baggy method may not be for your hair.

Baggieing got me to APL and BSL when all else failed. I do it 4-5 times weekly and it keeps my ends moist and healthy.:)

I will never stop baggy'ing because it has helped me retain length like nothing else.
Also, when I first started caring for my hair, I had very damaged ends and due to the baggie I didn't have to cut them off, and now they are no difference in health compared to the rest of my hair.
