I know a lot of you ladies experience good results from baggying (either your pony or whole head) but some of you did not. Why do you think that is? I would think baggying would keep your hair very moisturized and strong instead of dry to the point of breaking off?

I just started baggying my pony for two weeks now and I am also stretching. I hope I get good results!
I think that what baggying does to one's hair depends on what is used to baggy. Baggying with conditioner and curl activator and other commercial products left my hair soft and easy to detangle in the short run but overconditioned my ends (so that when I combed, my ends actually started to stretch and pop off with a lazy, flaccid motion the way boiled noodles do when you pull them) and seemed to make it more porous (which means more moisture loss = the dryness some complain about) in the long run. Baggying with a mixture that is mostly shea butter and oil with a bit of conditioner works for my hair in both the short and the long run.

I tweaked and found out that with my fine hair S-curl with vaseline (don't cringe) or an oil works on my nape (it's incredibly dry) and just baggying my ends using sandwich bags without the seal and just plain olive oil. Virtually no split ends or breakage. Only when my ends are really dry do I use a light spray of S-curl sealed with olive or castor oil. :)
I just use either an oil or a moisturizer when I baggy; sometimes I cover my entire head, sometimes just the ends and have never had a problem with dampness or breakage. Using too many products may make the baggy *too* effective, hence the over-moisturized hair some of you have experienced.

i baggy with ors olive oil or ntm silk touch. my ends are the best i've seen them in all my years of haircare.

if i feel my hair is super dry, i baggy w/ wave nouveau.

I'm beginning to baggy every other day instead of everyday to prevent over moisture. Not only that but my room is hot so I'm already sweating so the baggy is not comfortable when it's hot. I've seen a lot of changes in my hair. It's grown 1/2 inch since I've did the BC because of the baggy to my reggie.

To baggy for me. I usually whole-head baggy at night while I sleep. I would use a creamy-based moisturizer, lightly seal my hair in oil, plait my hair down, put on the baggy with a wig cap over that, and then put on my satin cap. (I make sure that my hair is not wet, but slightly damp/moist is good enough for me):yep:.

This helps to prevent my hair from moving around/breaking in the baggy while I sleep and it minimizes/stops that crunchy sound from the plastic cap while turning over.

I usually do this method when I am using wigs as my protective style dring the day about twice, maybe three times a week. I think any more than that, I might end up with mushy hair:nono:.

I apply and coat sections of my hair with African Pride Curl Activator gel on dry hair, after I have applied my 'growth aids'. I seal with oil then, I pin up my hair and double baggie and add a couple of turbans. Sometimes I leave it overnite or for hours.

So far so good.

What DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, is putting activator and condtitioner on at the same time or just using CONDITIONER AND OIL ALONE FOR LONGER THAN A COUPLE OF HOURS. This has always caused me breakage.

Hope this helps.

I voted not to baggy. Too much moisture for my fine strands. Last time I baggied, I had ssk's galore and my ends felt like they were shedding.
