She tells me: "Your hair looks unprofessional; you need to relax!"

Sounds like a plan! When u slick your hair back, add some serum and/or coconut oil before you tie it down. Your hair should be shiny, soft, and smoothed out when u wake up just like u had blown it dry. Let us know how it turns out! Take pics if u can! :)

I'm loving coconut oil! I have at least 4 different kinds: Vatika, Parachute, Jarrow, and this special Indian coconut oil that includes other herbal oils. I've been using coconut oil to seal daily because I've heard that it helps with breakage and shedding. And it has!! :clapping:

so how did the presentation go?

ETA: I've been there with the 6months post and french roll. So if your hair looked like what mine looked like than she definitely looked out for you.

This is a wonderful thread!

Thank you, Serenity Peace, for sharing the scenario with us. Love your mentor and love how you handled it. And, CONGRATULATIONS on your SIX month stretch. That's awesome too! :yep:

SP,

You have an incredibly HUMBLE spirit - and that is going to take you a LOOONNNNNG way in life. With that attitude, prepare to soar to the MOON, my friend. :yep: That was truly refreshing to hear your story.

Serenity, I love your positive spirit... it's inspiring and refreshing. I'm proud of you for humbly taking the advice of someone who genuinely cares for you and for finding a compromise that works for YOU. I really hope everything turned out well for you and I can't wait for an update!!

I didnt get very far in the thread but like honey A mentioned about tieing your hair with a scarf. i do that even after i style my hair. i usually wear my hair up and im 10 months post relaxer. after brushing it back and putting gel and castor oil and all that i usually tie my silk scarf around my head ( but not covering my gelled and styled phony pony ) and leave it on for at least an hour. When i take it off everything is still verrrrrry wavy but all the hairs are in place and it doesnt move.

If i DONT use the scarf, then by the end of my night i end up looking like a scare crow.

c/s'ing both of these posts ;).

Serenity, I also hope your presentation went well and I'm glad you were able to find a solution since you didn't have time to relax. You are definitely blessed to have someone that genuinely cares about you and looks out for your best interests.

Aw, shucks!!!

Where do I begin??!?!??!?!?!?

Ladies, thank you so much for your warm responses and well wishes!:kiss:

The presentation went very well. I felt confident and knowledgeable. It's always good to have people come up to you after a presentation to talk. That's when you know you did your job. Thanks so much because I really hate public speaking. I'm a pretty introverted person, so your thoughts and prayers meant so much to me...and they worked!! :yep:

As for the hair, here's what I did...

Here's what I did this morning: Pre-pooed overnight with shikaikai oil on scalp and alma on hair, per Candy_C's instructions. This morning, I washed with Shikakai/Alma/Reetha shampoo (from Indian market, not ReddTweetyB's shampoo). My hair was SOOO soft. I am 22 weeks post-relaxer. I then deep conditioned without heat with a mixture of silicon mix, Miss Keys 10 en 1 and a little olive oil. I allowed the conditioner to remain for 30 minutes. Got in the shower, did my business, and detangled under cold water. I had minimal shedding and barely any breakage. Got out of shower and immediately used RT's oils on scalp. Used her jojoba conditioner/rosemary, then some moisturizer and sealed with Vatika coconut oil.

I used this:

To help gel down my ends. It has no alcohol. All natural ingredients.

The weave didn't work well, but I was able to use my foam donut for my standard bun. I didn't take pics, but I was very pleased that I was able to control the puffiness at the top. No more "Predator" looking hair for me.

I wore my navy blue suit with Nine West navy blue pumps, deep chardonnay lipstick and pearl drop earrings. I think the earrings compliments my pulled back hair and bun very well. I looked conservative.

Anyway, I will continue on with my condition washes every few days or so and a weekly alma/shikakai, deep condition wash to help me get through the remaining two weeks of this stretch!

Thanks so much again ladies for hanging in there with me...

SP ;)

I would not get upset and I think the OP took the feedback like a champ. I mentor many young ladies in my organization and business is not the place to be overly sensitive. It is constructive and her mentor wants what is best for her. If she thinks she is doing anything that may derail her or cause her to not be taken seriously it is her duty as a mentor to bring it to her attention.

However you choose to wear your hair make sure it is presentable. You are lucky to have one great mentor!

okay, maybe I'm a little sensitive today  , I'm the only 1 hot about this post!! But, I see their points she was not being rude but I feel its still none of her beeswax

I enjoyed reading this post. It gave me some ideas for my own hair. When I'm stretching nowadays, I'll braid my hair in single plaits and leave it like that for a week. I'm starting to wonder if it comes across as unprofessional but I don't deal with the public and have a clerical job where a few people dress down. I'm thinking I should change it up once in a while rather than doing it all winter though.
