Salon stylists speak "we hate wash and gos!"

Im not even natural and it made me mad!! The rude, condescending attitudes were unnecessary. Im glad I don't need no stylist to look good! Humph!... *eye roll*. Anything I want to do to my hair, i can learn to do on my own!

I agree that they are resentful of potential clients who are knowledgeable about their own hair. But people just don't need them in the same way as back in the day when you went to the shop every two weeks like clockwork!! And tried your best to schedule the appointment close to the time you had somewhere to go...so you could have a "fresh doo", lol!!

The main thing to remember about most professional is they are not trained to "grow" your hair, they are trained to "style" your hair. Sometimes these two are conflicting and for them; styling always wins!

Hmm I turned it off after they started clapping and cackling, I don't see what is so funny - that reminded me of high school girls laughing at some "lesser person's" hair. Kinda ratchet and unprofessional if you ask me. They were on track putting "ego" in their salon name.

You know what I hate?

Scissor happy stylists that do not listen to your instructions on how much to trim from your hair, how to detangle your hair, how to properly flat-iron your hair, and get offended when you bring in the products that work best for YOUR hair.

Stylists with little to no clue on how to properly care for natural hair.

Stylists that make their clients wait for untold hours for them.

Stylists that are visibly angry and shocked that your hair has thrived without them touching it.

Stylists that are mad that you have the gall to keep your hard earned money instead of giving it to them.

So all these "Mad Stylists" can have a Yankee Stadium full of seats while I sit back, just a swangin' my natural, APL, 4a curls, kinks and coils to BSL and beyond.

Uhm Rick James Momemt Warning: Ya'll wasn't saying sheet when you were snatching me bald with braid extensions or burning my stuff off with a pressing combs/relaxers. Oh when you were butchering me so I didn't have enough hair to tangle, I couldn't hear anyone cackle. Now that I cut the money off everybody wanna complain about the napps I been growing for decades.


In the picture below my BSB hair is washed and air dried, no comb or gel. I like it. Bauldy trying to say them stick straight eight of an inch fades look better. Hump, Ya'll wash and no bald headed mother drukers all on YT in ya leather panties and cheetah boots, can kiss my nappy roots.

This is the very best salon I have ever used. Love, love, love the vibe. These three beautiful professional stylists really know their stuff! I drive 160 miles round trip just to go here. There is none of craziness of other salons (ie: appointment at one time and having to wait an hour or two before the stylist actually starts). Oh no, when they give you an appointment, that is your appointment time. I have actually shown up 10 minutes earlier and was told to proceed to the chair. Love the Internet access and the use of iPads while under the dryer. I also like being able to book appointments online.

Jessica is my stylist. She is a colorist extraordinaire! Everywhere I go, people want to know where did I get my color. No matter if I can't exactly communicate effectively what I want, Jessica listens and pulls it all together! The best thing about the color Jessica uses is that my hair is never, ever dried out from the color. I have never had color that leaves my hair in better condition than it was when I went into the salon.

If you are a curly(actually more kinky than curly) girl like me, or if you want locks started or maintained, then I suggest you call the women at Revoluion Ego! They really know natural hair.

Waste of money and time. The consultation was useless. She never even touched my hair but instead just asked "what do you want to do'. Consultation lasted about 3 minutes. Not acceptable when I took my time out to be there. Went for my appointment after being told my style would last at least 2 weeks. The stylist didn't wash my hair good enough, then acted like she didn't want to use any product. I realize natural products are expensive but I am paying top dollar. My style lasted 2 days, and no I didn't sweat it out. In fact I was sick so didn't even leave the house. Also, it wouldn't hurt for these ladies to smile at some point.

I had initially booked an appointment online for color. The stylist notified me that this service did not include a style and asked if I wanted one. I said yes.

Days later, I needed to reschedule my appointment. Unable to find one time slot to accommodate both color and style, I book the color online and then email the stylist requesting that I get both services.

The day of, as she finishes rinsing me and I go back to the chair, I specify what type of style I want, to which she responds, "Well you're not getting any style because you didn't request it and my next client will be here shortly."

I mention the email and she said that she responded that I needed to continue looking until I find a time slot. We debate for a few, but I eventually give up and leave with wet hair.

I sent a follow up email, explaining that there was obviously a mix up, but right or wrong, she should have tried to accommodate me. Perhaps I could have waited while she prepped her other client? Or one of the other stylists could have taken care of me? I told her that I would not be returning.

She responds that "I'm very direct and jovial; saying 'you're not getting any style' was intended as a joke so I'm very sorry it didn't come across that way and that you felt rushed out of the salon." But I don't get how it's a joke if you still made me leave. And what bothered me most is that she made no attempts to win me back as a client.

In all, she just handled the situation poorly. It's a shame because she's a pretty good stylist.

Finally, they all need to do something with their hair. They all look like the before in the make over reality shows. Not like owners of a natural hair salon.

Like a few others have said, its not the message per se, its the tone and condescending attitude. They probably can do hair like nobody's business but I would never pay to put up with their crap. I wouldn't do it for free.

I would like for them to tell Denimpixie, HairCrush and some of the other queens of WnGs that they don't have the "right hair" for it. God, that burned me up!

Who does a shampoo and go? Maybe their clients did it but I never heard of such a thing ever.

I'm tired of the hair care industry trying to play catch up. The online hair community will always be the innovators of something because we will try it as a DIYer. They are mad because there is less dependence on their expertise and refuse to embrace the shift. Instead of learning as she puts it she is perhaps losing.....money that is.

Kudos to those stylists that have recognized and embrace it.

The woman in the middle should have worn a longer skirt or whatever to cover those wretched elephant sized thighs.

I can relate to this. Ooh, they do not like it when you come in after a 12+ week stretch! Act like you came in with 19" of virgin hair you haven't combed in 6 months. It was one of the reasons why I decided to go DIY on my touch ups; I couldn't take all the popping and snapping I heard the last time I went in for a touch up (with detangled hair mind you) and I lost more than half of the inch and a half I grew during my stretch under the premise of "evening out my ends." It felt like I was being punished for staying away too long.

I won't even lie, as soon as I saw that Wash and Go vid the other day, I couldn't wait until one of the LHCF ladies made a thread about it so I could put in my two cents. Lol! I'm not as mad today as I was when I first saw it, but I definitely can't sit through it again.

All I'm going to say is I'm tired of those stylists who do and say things that give us all a bad name. I'm a current cosmetology student and I absolutely love what I do. When I finish school and get my license, my plan is to specialize in providing services for natural kinky, curly, coily, wavy hair. And sites like this have been such a huge learning tool for me. I've learned more from the online community since I went natural 4 years ago than I have in school as far as natural hair is concerned. I'm always quick to refer my curly/coily/kinky/wavy haired clients to my favorite Youtubers and sites like these.

I say all that to say, there are some good stylists out there. Those of us who don't scoff at a client's desire to be more self-sufficient when it comes to their hair. (Heck, I've been a DIY-er since going natural!) Those of us who know about porosity, density, and the best way to detangle natural hair. Oh, and some of us even know the difference between a dusting, a trim and a cut. Lol!!! Also, those of us who understand that if a client doesn't have the knowledge to care for their hair between salon visits it reflects negatively on you as the stylist. Clients are a walking billboard for a stylist's work. I don't want any of my clients looking a hot mess when I could have taken the time to show them what they can do at home.

We may be a small group now, but I think our numbers are growing. I've seen several here at LHCF!

Tinesha, (the one in the center) who has been doing ONLY natural hair for over 13 years, named our salon.
Kelley, (the funny one, on the right) has been natural her whole life and a stylist for 7 years.
As for me, I'm a DIY'er who left her career in healthcare to attend cosmetology school SOLELY, to do natural hair. I've been a stylist for 5 years, 3 years as a licensed cosmetologist.

Why has Tinesha been doing this since long before most of you even knew this was a thing? Why does Kelley go so hard to educate on healthy hair care? Why did I leave a well paying career to do hair often times for free???

Because WE love you! You're attacking our personalities, our bodies, our clients, our livelihoods, but we still love you. We love natural hair, we love helping women (and occasionally men) embrace themselves. We love our community that supports us, and the camaraderie our salon provides.

Yesterday, while we were loving up on our clients, someone in this forum sent an email to the salon with the link just as an FYI.
The amount of disrespect and sheer meanness I read was surprising.
As I said earlier, we are Evolution, Growth, Oneness. We sometimes live In our EGO bubble, where women all get along, support each other, uplift one another, and would never degrade another. This thread made me feel like I was watching a really bad reality tv show.

Yes, we are silly, we love to have fun while cultivating, caring for, and styling natural hair. To those of you who watched the video in it's entirety, thank you! Your opinion on the subject matter is valued. We didn't disable the comments, Amanda, the owner of the video did. I was able to read many of them the night before they were removed and enjoyed the relevant feedback even though many of the comments were negative there as well.

Listen, if it doesn't apply to you, it's not for you. Tinesha clearly stated, "A wash & go is for some people." You condition, detangle, and use a moisturizing product for your wash & go? Your hair is in great condition and continues to thrive styling this way? Fantastic! We weren't talking to you.

We don't have a problem with DIY'ers. If you're doing a great job yourself, THANK YOU, that means you aren't in the streets giving naturals a bad rep and it makes our jobs much easier. As I said, I too was DIYer so I'm slightly offended at the idea that stylists are against it. I have archived posts on naturallycurly.com, nappturality, maybe even here under the name "jsocurleigh" We aren't new to this, we're true to it. You doing your own hair isn't "cutting into our profits". If you think this is about money for us, you are sadly mistaken. We do hair for free regularly.

We teamed up with hair and beauty vlogger AmandaG, our client, because we wanted to give the YouTube community advice from professionals. Meaning, people who are experts on ALL types of natural hair. You are indeed an expert, on YOUR hair. One type. Not here to argue that. We're here to let you know we have seen it all and done it all so we know what works.

First of all I'm just a spectator to all of this but I would just like to say that I think it's rather nice that you guys decided to reach out. That was really big of you all (no pun intended ) I think it was the way the message came across that angered so many. It was quite condescending and very rude. Stylist are great and CAN be informative but the delivery of your message was a huge turn off for many.

Truth is we notice that most stylists are either against natural hair so they give all kinds of wrong advice, or they don't want people like us being natural because it cuts into their profit margin.

I do wash and go's in the summer and there's no way I would ever skip the conditioner or gel. I have 3C hair, but I've seen many lovely 4A and 4B ladies do beautiful wash and go's. Its not just for biracials or people with certain hair types. I hope you stick around the forum and hang out with us. You'd be surprised at how well informed most of us are about our own hair. I personally don't go to salons and most of the time its because I'm mistreated. Yes even us 3C's with long hair get mistreated (why don't you relax, you have too much hair, I'm charging you more because your hair is too long, why are you only coming twice a year, yadda yadda yadda)
