If I rollerset with my hair soaking wet, it might not dry completely. I leave it just wet enough so the ends "stick" to the rollers. When I do it like that, My hair is totally set when I wake up.

I don't have a dryer, I rollerset airdrying overnight. My hair takes about 10 - 12 hours to get completely dry.

What is the diameter (how many inches) of the big lime green rollers you mention ? Are they of magnetic type ?

I do not think I would be able to stay under the hood for 3 to 4 hours. As I said in a previous message, today after 1 1/2 hour in the heat, I have no heart to continue ....At the age of 16, with my hair down to the waist, I had to stay 2 hours but it was really a nightmare
How long is your hair today ?

They're 3 Inches ... I can fit my hand through the roller. They are magnetic rollers and I use 2 silver clips on each side of the rollers to hold them in.

3" it's impressive. I had already seen so big rollers during a travel in Dominican Republic, but I did'nt thought it was used commonly. How many rollers do you use ? I also wonder how you can enter under the dryer with this size of rollers. With my 2", it is already difficult .....

About 7-8 Green ones,a nd I have to put grey on the side so I can SQUEEZE

my head under the drier. I don't have much "wiggle room" under the dryer, but I prefer the results with the larger rollers, as apposed to the smaller ones.

Ballet bun, many thanks for this very valuable information. I have to try to find such rollers in Paris and to make the test. Magnetic are not common in France and I have always used mesh rollers. As for squeezing the head uner the drier and not having any wiggle room, I know very well what you mean: my rollers are 2" 'only', but my hair requires a lot of rollers, 32 exactly, so the set is very very big and the space under the dryer scarce.
I wonder also if using your 3" would reduce the drying time, I have to stay currently 1 1/2 hour under the hood and it is not very peasant, to say the less.

Yes, to me it seems like using the bigger rollers has reduced the drying time for me.

I surf the net if I'm at home under the dryer. I read a book if I'm at the salon under the dryer. I know I sit under the dryer for a while, but these two things can make the time fly.

Ladies,
I browsed through old threads (e.g. the Bouffant size magnetic rollers forum of November 2002) and it seems that many rollersetters would be ready to graduate to 3" rollers, if the size of the dryer would allow. This would certainly cut the average drying time which is simply astonishing (35% of the voters need to sit more than 2 hours under the dryer)
Does someone know about a dryer large enough to accomodate a head full of 3" rollers (the green magnetic ones of Ballet bun)? I also noticed in the Forum during the same period (November 2002) that Sweetcocoa had built a prototype of a bonnet which could accomodate any size of rollers. Does someone know about ?
Any idea ?

My drying time is usually between 25-30 minutes. My dryer gets super hot, so I would be southern broiled if I sat under it longer.

When i am at home it takes around 3 hrs. I have to take breaks because I just get tired sitting there. I have thick hair so even after 3 hrs, sometimes my hair is still not totally dry. I plan to invest in a professional dryer since I am rollersetting more during the summer.

My drying time varies, but I beleive it would be closer to two hours to get my hair completely dry, with no breaks. That being said, I ususally take breaks. I am on the prowl for a new dryer. The one that I have is a Daisy bonnet and it doesn't dry very fast. I would love to get a dryer that would dry my hair in about an hour or less.

At the salon I sit for about under a hour if they set me with the big rollers(black ones).However for some reason when they feel the need to set me with the smaller purple ones i'm sitting for 1 1/2.

I chos2 2 hours, but it takes a really long time. I use the red and purple rollers, but last night I purchased the black rollers...not sure of the diameter, but I'm hoping it'll cut down on my drying time at home. At the dominicans it takes abt 50 mins.

Mine is around 2.5-3 hours. It use to bother me but since I have my bonnet dryer I do other things. Also for some reason I get my best naps under the hair dryer...

My drying time is 2 hours because I want to make sure my hair is thoroughly dried before removing the rollers. When I studied cosmetology back in the 80's, I had someone rollerset my hair, and was put under a warm dryer for about an hour. Now I airdry my rollerset because I don't need a hairdryer to really speed up my drying time. And IMO, it's a lot healthier for the hair.

When my hair was damaged, it would dry in 30 minutes. After I joined the board and my hair thickened up, it's 1.5-2 hours at home and 1 hour at the salon.

I only rollerset at home, and it takes me an hour to get it completely dry. I love my dryer because it doesnt feel crazy hot on the scalp but doesnt take forever and a half to dry. I have the Vidal Sassoon Ionizer 1875. Sometimes I sit under the dryer for 45 minutes and my hair will be dry mostly except for a few parts of my ends that are a dry but not fully...I usually wrap it immediately and it still comes out good, not frizzy or wavy. It depends on if I feel like sitting under the dryer for the full hour.

I no longer rollerset but I remember reading a post from someone who said to put a towel over the bonnet part of the dryer (for the hard top kind). When I started to do this my whole head from root to tip would be dry in an hour-and I have bra-strap length, medium thickness hair. Before using the towel, the back of my head and the lower sides would never dry completely. I can't believe some of you guys take that long to dry-that is ridiculous, and a helluva commitment!!! Try the towel. You look stupid, but I swear it works-almost like it concentrates the air all toward your head.
