Has anyone experienced any breakage or dry ends from rollersetting and sitting under the dryer? If not, how many times a week do you set, and what temp. on the dryer do you use?

make sure your ends are all the way smooth before rolling it around a roller. ;)

btw, what products do you use for your rollerset?

I experience dry ends if my hair starts to dry before I roll. So I have to spray each section with water prior to rolling and smooth it over the roller. I also add a little WGO and this helped the last time.

No I have never experienced dry ends. I make sure each section is wet and lying flat on the roller and I dry my hair on the highest setting(soft bonnet dryer). I rollerset once a week.

I normally use s-curl and some warm olive oil. Since I set twice a week, I don't wanna have any ill effects from the dryer since I'll be doing it some much.

I rollerset once a week and haven't experienced these problems. I would say to get a good leave in conditioner, that should help with the dry ends and it should help stop some of the breakage.

I rollerset for years once or twice a week and quite always sit under the hard hat dryer at high temperature - sometimes the highest if I can withstand, the next setting if not.
But I condition the hair and make sure that all lengths are equally wet when I roll the hair. Frequently I have to spray water on the ends when I am putting the last rollers.
I never experienced any breakage.

I roller set once or twice a week, on the highest setting (Ion Soft Bonnet) and then follow-up with a flat iron and haven't experienced dry ends. I do experience dry ends when I use a conditioner with protein, so I only do protein treatments every blue moon when my hair has excessive breakage, which hasn't been the case in many, many months.

I also do a pre-shampoo treatment with olive oil once a week with heat and a plastic bag for 20 minutes.

conditioner favs:
L'Oreal's Natures Therapy Mega Moisture
L'Oreal's Natures Therapy Smoothing Treatment
Rene Furterer's Karite (followed up with one of the above as a rinse)

Setting Lotion and heat protectant:
John Frieda's Frizz Ease Serum

Semi daily moisturizer:
Rene Furterer's Carthame
Egyptian Magic (every now and then if I'm wearing my hair up)

HTH...

NO breakage or dry ends either from rollersetting. Always ensure your using a good moisturizing conditioner. I also use a serum as well.

I would also like to know what type of Rollers you all use, also, what moisturizers, Serums are you using and what type of Haid dryers do you use.

THANKS!!!

I rarely rollerset, but when I do I wash and condition my hair real good and work in a little moisturizing lotion to my damp hair and oil my ends before wrapping my ends around end papers and wrap around a roller to secure. In the morning, I finger fluff my hair to release (never ever comb) and my hair is nice, soft and very moisturized..no breakage whatsoever.

No dry ends, no breakage with rollersets. I use magnetic rollers and sit under cool dryer (no heat!) once a week.

Neroli, I'm sure you have probably already posted this, but what size rollers do you use and how long does it take you to dry your hair on cool? It takes me about 3 hours. Also, what type of dryer are you using?

I just started doing rollersets again, and I've found that my hair sets better if I don't use a setting lotion/foam. I just apply my leave-in (Razac or Lacio Lacio), serum (Garnier Sleek & Shine), and dab a mixture of Dove Smooth & Soft Anti-Frizz Cream and Jojoba Oil on the ends. I get a perfect soft, frizz free set with no breakage.

Hi Lady: I use mostly 2.5 inch greys and a few 2 inch purples here and there. It takes about 3 hours to dry my sets on cool as well. I use ION hood dryer I purchase at sally's for $40 -- features: ionic, 4 settings (high, medium, low and cool) and oversize adjustable hood. Which dryer do you use? I'm still looking to decrease dry time (always!) and will be trying the wire mesh rollers based on your review in another thread. Thanks for that . . .

The grey rollers are actually 2 inches. Maybe you should upgrade to the black rollers which are 2 1/2 inches. That's what I had to do and my drying time did decrease.

Yeah, I need to upgrade another size, but I'm afraid I'll need to get a larger hood 'cause I'm barely fitting under this one as it is. I know this is a GOOD problem . . .

Well Neroli, after using the mesh for some time now, i'm realizing that they aren't really working for me anymore. I don't get a smooth set like I did when I set with magnetic. I think it has something to do with the rollers softening and losing it's shape over time. When I first used them the rollers were hard like magnetic, but now the wire has become kinda soft. I'm seeing mesh lines now. I guess if you are just using them to dry then it's okay, but if you are going to style like in a doobie or were it out curly, then the lines will be visible. I was at work one day and my co-worker was looking at strands of my hair and said: "your hair is wavy, why is that?". I was wondering why that would be, so I examined my strands in the mirror and it was the mesh lines that was making my hair appear wavy. :ohwell: . Things like that bother me, but for some they don't. I feel so bad because I hyped up these rollers so much and now I don't even use them anymore. I'll probably put them up for sell. Oh well, that goes to show that every one has different opinions regarding products and tools.

Thanks for the followup. I LOVE the smooth sleek look I get with the magnetics but will still try the mesh, with your caution in mind. Dang, I'll probably run right back to my magnetics and upgrade the size . .
