Relaxed Hair Thread

Girl, you missed the boxed set dvds, reruns, and sequel! :lachen:
Dang :rofl::rofl::rofl::lachen::abducted:

Yes, I's sangle now! After over 30 years! :drunk: Living MY life on MY terms without a toxic idiot dragging me down. It's heaven!

It's no coincidence that my hair is on track so quickly after I left that marriage. The stress slowed my progress. Now, my hair is like 'Oh, he gone? Let's do this!' Lol!
Well Praise the Lord and pass the popcorn
You grow girl:clap:

@LushLox I think I've finally settled into a routine that is going to let me retain the most hair. I've learned a LOT since I lost my BSL+ hair back in 2017. Having to regrow my hair from scratch was a challenge, but here I am!

The main thing is that I had to really start taking care of ME! Inside and out. Stress was the main cause of my hair loss. I'm sure of that. Now that I'm happily divorced and settling into my new life, my hair seems to have come right along with me. I re-read my old posts and pretty much went back to my original routine with a few adjustments since some of my old products aren't available. I get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and take an over the counter vitamin with added Biotin. Additionally, I go to the doctor/specialists anytime I feel a little off, or need something checked. Again, taking care of ME! LOL!
@sunnieb I didn't know you got divorced. Me too! And my hair has also miraculously stopped shedding after moving away from my ex. People tell me I look younger! Self-care has helped me A LOT. Doesn't it feel so good to take care of yourself?

Yaaaasss! :pulpdance: Good for you and congratulations!!! So happy to hear of another woman becoming FREE!!

It's awesome!!!! I'm in my 50s and got lil' boys in their 30s trying to holla! :lachen: Getting rid of those toxic men makes us look like we're young girls again! However, I'm enjoying being single and "selfish" for once in my adult life.

Just wait until I'm rockin' my MBL hair in a few years! They ain't ready! Lol!

I can tell my hair is getting longer. The cheapy/knock-off/plastic Flexi-8 clips used to work fine - now they seem to almost break every time I use them.

I didn't feel like putting in my regular bun today, so I used the cheapy to do a roll & tuck. I feel like it almost broke because my hair was "too much" for it. I already broke two of them. :ohwell:

I know they shut down the original Flexi-8 website years ago. Off to research if I can buy some. Those things are expensive, but they work and are quality.

@sunnieb Is LilaRose the same as Flexi8?

My clips came in! I'm way more excited than I should be! :drunk: I love that these are the same clips I used when I first saw then on LHCF years ago. Same quality and sizes. They had an offer for a free headband with orders over $50, so I got that too.

I'll order more colors and styles as a Christmas gift to myself, but think I have a good collection to start with:

Yea babyyyy! I'm so glad you liked them, and that they're the same thing you were looking for. You picked some good colors. I love silver (my septum piercing is small and silver). But I love the (I think) brass one and also the earth tone one.

It takes me two hours to base and twist my hair for relaxer prep. I feel like the slowest person when it comes to doing hair.

I'm glad I use a mild relaxer (Hawaiian Silky No Base Mild) 'cause I'm slow with the applying process too. To be fair, I relax bone straight and that takes a lot of smoothing since my hair is tightly coily and resistant. It usually takes me between 32 - 34 minutes from start to finish. After I did a standalone Olaplex treatment with 1 and 2 and Aphogee 2mins before neutralizing. This is my usual step before neutralizing. My hair came out nice.

LOL! I've been trying to keep hair notes this year to track my journey from SL. Y'all, I have DC'd my hair only once every other month! We'll see how this turns out. :look:

I use Ayurveda powders/herbs added to my leave in condish and my hair and scalp oils. I use those daily. Using Ayurveda, I've skipped DCs a lot since 2014. My hair feels well conditioned most of the time. It's been really hard to get back into the habit of DCing regularly. Ayurveda makes my hair fuller and gives it a very healthy shine.

When I was changing out my PS more often (every 3 weeks or so), it was easier to wash, DC, blowout and then braid it up for my next PS. But I've been living in cornrows since April and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. EXCEPT for my relaxer anniversary coming up this weekend!!

I plan to wash, DC, blowout and then maybe try these hot rollers I bought in order to see my 1 yr progress a little better. I'll be 12 weeks post so I need a bit of help w the new growth. If my back fat is cooperating, I'll post a pic or two. :giggle:

@MzSwift my hair demands I DC once a week. I've tried to go to bi-weekly in the past and it didn't work. I just accepted it. Actually, I leave my honey/Castor Oil mask on for an hour (under a plastic cap) each week too. So I'm really dc'ing 2x a week. :ohwell:

I just logged on to Ulta to buy another bottle of Pattern Leave-In Conditioner. Do y'all know these jokas went up $7 on the price????

Luckily, I have points, coupons and plan to pick it up today to save some money - but, STILL. I understand price increases ever so often, but dang! I just bought this exact product a couple of months ago for $42. Geez! They lucky this stuff is the only suitable replacement I've found for my Neutrogena Triple Moisture.

@sunnieb That price hike is absolutely crazy!!

Update:
Well I have been out for the count. Got sick shortly after typing my post and I just finally cut my fever this morning. :boxing::fishslap::giveup:

I'm so sad too bc I always put up my Halloween decorations on Oct 1st and the weather is absolutely beautiful! But I'm stuck in bed. I've moved from body aches to annoying cough. I don't trust myself 15-20 ft up on a ladder (I want to attach spiders all over my house this year). This is only my 2nd Halloween in this neighborhood but our new neighbors raved about our house last year. So I was looking forward to bringing joy to the kiddos again this year.

More importantly, this means that I'm not gonna get to wash, DC and blow out my hair for my relaxer anniversary today. So I'll be a little late w the updates. Sowwy ladies :(
OK, now back to my nap. lol

OK, I can finally do my 1 year relaxer anniversary update. I'm still pretty sick but it's down to an annoying cough and my energy is picking back up. I didn't want to wet my head so I didn't wash, DC and blow out my hair like I should have. My hair is "dirty" - it gets cowashed and washed in my cornrows so it's not really dirty. lol.

I took down my cornrows while I was stuck in bed, finger detangled and the parted my hair into four quadrants and bantu knotted each quadrant using water, condish and oil. To me, this is good enough for progress pics this year. But next year, will be my official/formal check in and I'll flat iron my hair for it. So that's why I did a pull down to try to gauge my length.

Overall, I'm happy with my progress. I still feel bald but not as discouraged as I was last year right after my virgin relaxer.

OCT 2022- SL stretched (fresh virgin relaxer, blown out)

OCT 2023- Dirty, finger detangled, 12.5 weeks post, pretty close to BSB

*I realized that it was hard to see in my tank so I put on the same shirt from last year. lol.

Because of the way I cut out my locs, my hair is about 70% the same length. The front 1/3 is shorter but my sides have grown from CL to APL and my front has gone from nose length to about CL and CBL. I don't have any plans to even anything out.
I know it's hard to tell from some of the photos but I am past APL! During some of my pull downs this year I thought I was gonna stay stuck at APL.
I'm hopeful about my EOTY blowout and flat iron.
Getting ready to cornrow it back up and keep on trucking until my EOTY formal check in!
