Relaxed Hair Thread

I think Hawaiian Silky might be the best relaxer I've ever used. My hair is soft, but it still looks natural. In fact someone came up to me at church to ask me what I did to my hair because she was looking to change up her natural hair and I had to tell her I wasn't natural lol Also I gotta shout out the the Affirm shampoo system. The Sustenance is *chef's kiss*

A fact I may or may not have mentioned:

I'm still comb-free even though I'm relaxed now. It's a bit different than being comb free with natural hair. I feel as though I should be even MORE gentle, but I can get through bigger sections. The natural hair was easier to finger detangle, but I had to do more sections if that makes sense lol.

Makes absolute sense to me bc that's exactly how I roll! I've been primarily fingers-only since 2010. The only time I use tools is when I use heat. I use a blow dry brush to blow dry my hair. The only time my hair is fully detangled is when I flat iron. lol I think that's a carryover from my natural days bc it was futile to "fully detangle" my natural hair.

Whenever I have tried to revisit using combs and brushes, it doesn't last long. Sometimes, I do use the metal end of a rattail comb to part my hair when I'm doing braid/twist extensions. The metal comb I used to comb out my locs last year is really good and I don't have to worry about ragged/melded plastic snagging my strands so I plan to use that when I flat iron. (OMG, I can't believe I haven't flat ironed my hair since 2019!!) And when my hair is flat ironed, I use a wide toothed comb to style.. sometimes. lol

So, my experience is telling me that these choices you're making for you hair (being gentler when handling, limiting chemical processes and leaving your hair alone for longer periods of time) will likely reap some good results for you! :cool2:

@ItsMeLilLucky yes ma'am! Life shole nuff be life-ing! I'm settling down and things are falling into place. Getting my hair/body and overall health in order is my top priority now. :pulpdance:

So, the EVCO worked miracles on my ends! Now I see why I used it daily. My hair loves it!

Here are my ends yesterday after I took out my daily bun. Finally not looking crispity at the end of the day! I also have some Castor Oil now. Reading my old posts to see what I did with it.

@sunnieb remind me what is EVCO again?

How are my relaxed ladies doing?

What's working for you and what's not?

I've started taking supplements again, cut out heat. I'm even doing some scalp massage fairly regularly. I was experiencing some unusual shedding and some breakage and it's all stopped now, so I'm glad about that. I do think a lot of it was down to my lack of iron though. I've upped my intake and increased my greens and water, and this seems to be paying off.

One thing about hair is even if you've neglected or not quite giving it what it needs once you start correcting the issues you can quickly (in my experience) see good progress.

@LushLox

Yes, that has absolutely been my experience as well. It's why I try not to overcorrect when I recognize an issue. It's also evident when I get hair lazy and it starts to not feel like itself. Once I start pampering it just a bit more, it perks right back up. Like a plant.

I was just coming in to say that I think of all of the supplements I've tried, including a simple multivitamin, I'm seeing the most results with Collagen. I'm on my second set of supplements - different brand and this one has a different combo. Taking 2g-3g of Collagen seems to be working for me. I'm not really measuring my hair but, wow, my nails are longer and stronger! In my experience, hair and nails are the last to reap benefits from something I'm doing internally so if my nails are this fly, I can only imaging what's going on with my hair! My nails never looked this good even during my pregnancies! lol Also, my skin has been much clearer. I'm so glad I took the plunge. The only drawback I've had is that it makes my periods later, shorter and lighter. But that's not an issue for me anymore and seeing the hair, skin and nails benefits I'm seeing makes it worth it.

As for my hair, I'm planning to do a blowout on or around Oct 1st for my relaxer anniversary. I can't believe it's been a year!! I'm trying not to get my hopes up bc I'm a slow grower and sometimes the yearly progress is discouraging. I haven't decided yet if I'm gonna flat iron. It's been pretty wet here so hopefully we get more dry fall weather soon. I still think I'm just gonna blow it out and then "wrap" it. Actually, I may blow it out and then try out these "hot rollers" that have been chilling in my closet for the past year. lol

Anyway, I'm waaayyy more excited about putting out our Halloween yard/house decor!!

:2inlove:....:hiya:
Everything is going well.

Prepping for this Wash Day Friday and trying to decide what "Protein" I'm going to use? Probably ABP's Keratin Rx.

And I'll also probably use Olaplex 0, 3 and 8 this Wash Day.

Also, thinking about investing in K18 Leave-in and see how it works for me and if I can adjust to not using a DC'er:nono:

OAN: My Stylist texted me and told me she is in Remission. She has fully embraced being a "baldy" right now.

That's such great news about your stylist! Thank you for the update.

@LushLox (and others)
I picked up a 1.7 oz K-18 to try the next 4-6 wash days

I will try not to be too heavy handed and will try to do without DC'ing for the next 4-6 washes:abducted:

Have you looked in the K18 thread? If you rub the product between your hands until your hands turn white it will distribute the treatment further. Now I section my hair in two and just use two pumps.

I did my 3rd treatment on Monday, hair looked silky and very hydrated the next day. I'm looking forward to seeing what my hair will look like in three weeks time.

@LushLox
Used the K18 L-I today. Surprisingly, did not feel the need to DC?:look:

Pre-Treated with Olaplex 0 & 3.

After Cleansing, I applied the K-18, waited a while and applied Redken Acidic Bonding L-I, Pure Argan Oil and wrapped.

The 1.7 oz will definitely get me through 4-6 consecutive treatments as you don't need a lot. Will see what my results are in the upcoming weeks.

The other great thing is the time it saves; I can get my hair done so quickly. I mean apart from air drying, but I don't even really need to do anything there. I leave the ends down for a while to dry for a bit, add my other leave ins, then in a bun it goes.

@LushLox I think I've finally settled into a routine that is going to let me retain the most hair. I've learned a LOT since I lost my BSL+ hair back in 2017. Having to regrow my hair from scratch was a challenge, but here I am!

The main thing is that I had to really start taking care of ME! Inside and out. Stress was the main cause of my hair loss. I'm sure of that. Now that I'm happily divorced and settling into my new life, my hair seems to have come right along with me. I re-read my old posts and pretty much went back to my original routine with a few adjustments since some of my old products aren't available. I get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and take an over the counter vitamin with added Biotin. Additionally, I go to the doctor/specialists anytime I feel a little off, or need something checked. Again, taking care of ME! LOL!

My hair is finally past SL and I hope to be able to claim APL by the end of the year. I bun daily for maximum retention.

Here's my hair routine:

Sunday: Honey/Castor Oil/EVOO mask - I only use raw, local honey. None of that store brand stuff. Apply to wet hair, let sit for an hour, then cowash with honey-based conditioner. Air dry.

Monday: Shampoo & Deep Condition - Clarify with Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo, then use Nexxus Therappe Shampoo. Apply Nexxus Humectress (mixed with a little honey and EVOO). Put on plastic cap and sit under hood dryer for 20 minutes. Wrap towel around my head and let conditioner sit for additional 40 minutes. Air dry. (Every 3 weeks, I switch to Nexxus Keraphix Shampoo and Conditioner for protein).

Tuesday: Cowash & Air dry

Friday: Cowash & Air dry

Saturday: Cowash & Air dry

Relaxer: I'm back to relaxing every 16 weeks. That seems to be the best for my hair. I'm currently trying to find a tried and true relaxer since they changed the formula for ORS. Thinking of trying Dark & Lovely next time.

Finding Rusk Smoother again has really helped my airdrying. As the hair around my edges continues to turn gray, those hairs are unruly and like to stick out. The Rusk Smoother keeps them under control so I'm not tempted to gel them down. I used to use gel daily back in the day and my hair suffered. Don't want to go down that road again.

Think that's about it. Happy hair growing!

Thank you for blessing us, maybe just me because the theme is consistency and self love.

Fabulous news @sunnieb it's so nice when your plan is working and your hair can just simply just sit back and let your hair flourish and grow.

I know you don't use heat Sunnie, but I read that you did a mid stretch trim recently. How do you ensure the hair is straight when you are trimming so that your trim is accurate?

I want like to do a trim as well, I don't need a big one though.

I only concentrated on the very ends. I snipped a few stragglers before they got out of control. If I don't see a big difference after a few mid stretch trims, I'll stop and just do a regular trim after relaxing.

@sunnieb You got divorced? I missed a few chapters

I love this new journey for you! You'll be on the road to your pre-2017 hair loss before you know it.:yep:
Girl, you missed the boxed set dvds, reruns, and sequel! :lachen:

Yes, I's sangle now! After over 30 years! :drunk: Living MY life on MY terms without a toxic idiot dragging me down. It's heaven!

It's no coincidence that my hair is on track so quickly after I left that marriage. The stress slowed my progress. Now, my hair is like 'Oh, he gone? Let's do this!' Lol!

I tell ya, stress can do a serious number on your body and hair.

I'm glad you're living and realising your best life now - you deserve it!
