Regimen before LHCF - Hilarious!

Does anyone remember their regimin before LHCF? It really makes me laugh when I think about it.

I have fine hair, 3c/4c type (I think), almost APL.

Wash & Condition w/Pantene Relaxed & Natural (sometimes I didn't wash my hair for over a month - just lazy)
911 leave in conditioner (I still love this stuff though)
Pink Lotion (lots & lots of pink lotion... and more pink lotion) :ohwell:
I was stretching my relaxer only by accident... but when I did relax, I smoothed it as bone straight as I could get it.

Deep conditioner next to never. I think I tried carrot oil once.

For blow outs I used some sort of heat protectant BUT

I was never gentle with my hair, combed & brushed & blow dried without even attempting to detangle (crazy I know). My hair was always sticky and completely without body. I wore ponytails every day :nono: and had horrible broken/damaged hair right around the nape & exactly where I used pony holders.

NOW, I have tossed out the pink lotion and added castor oil, co-washes & oil rinses and my hair is soft and growing & moisturized.

I have learned so much here! I'm still figuring out how to add photos though.

THANKS ALL!!! Really!

Thats better than me :nono:

When i did my hair, all i knew was brush, grease, shampoo, pink mink, and gel.

About 2x a month i would shampoo my hair with the most drying shampoos i must have been able to find, rinse, then rip the brush through my wet hair into a ponytail, --then put pink mink on top, then grease, and gel on the edges.

Daily i would rip the brush through my hair, grease my hair and scalp, and put more gel on my hair.

I was trying find the best "hair lotions" and greases that i thought would grow my hair to shoulderlength (which i thought was THE longest)--Only reason i was wearing ponytails is because i didnt know about any other styles for short hair

When i blowdryed i would rip the blowdryer through my soaking wet hair, grease, and pinklotion it,.....then wonder why my hair didnt have the "wrapped" look or bump at the ends other people had when their hair was straight :rolleyes:

I didnt know about flatirons, hooded dryers, what rollers were for, heat protectant, conditoner, leavein, protien, or really what to do with oil

My pre LHCF regimen: wash, dc, rollerset weekly. relax at 6-8 weeks at salon with blunting trims every other relaxer. Affirm 5 in 1 with each touchup .

poo: keracare hyd/det shampoo twice or dry &itchy for the first lather. I would use keracare first lather:nono: when I felt I couldn't get all of the mineral oil and silicone out of my hair. My hair would be so stripped when I got it out that my hair laughed at the follow-up with keracare hyd/det poo.

dc: humecto, dry and itchy, or color treated hair deep conditioners

leave in: keracare leave in, or keracare moisturizing lotion and/or keracare setting lotion or keracare set foam

then use silken seal serum & rollerset

dried under wack *** gold and hot dryer which fried my crown area while the rest was still wet. 4 hour drying is no joke!

finish with keracare glossifier, oil scalp only with natural oasis.

during the week :
BB pink lotion or carol's daughter somm for moisture
also tried cantu products, ntm, keracare moisturizer.SOMM was best but it stopped working.
My hair would be light, and glossy, for about 3-4 days then would be mad weighed down and dry, but still glossy, somehow.go figure.:perplexed

Thank God for LHCF!!!!!!!! I ended my dryness issues by:

I learned to lather once with diluted shampoo on scalp only
I prepoo/chelated
I branched out and found products that work for me. All the time.
I wouldn't have gotten the Pibbs 514 if I didn't learn about it here:grin:

My regimen was go to salon every week. Every 2 weeks when being lazy. In the between time if I needed to wash my hair I would wash, condition, comb through wet hair and then air dry. Then take a large barreled curling iron and straighten my hair with it.

Too funny! Now I don't feel so bad y'all.

I have never heard of Pink Mink... is that Pink Lotion's cousin? :giggle:

Oh and I forgot... I would burn my hair at least once every time I curled my hair with my GOLD'N HOT curling iron. Then I had to smell that burnt hair smell all day. :perplexed I just stopped using it all together.

Yes, mine was very simple:
1. Wash hair once every 3 weeks, relax every 4-6 weeks.
2. Slick hair back with brown protein gel.
3. Apply phony pony.
4. Apply brown gel daily:look:

And when I was feeling real adventurous, I'd curl my dirty, gelled down hair with a Gold'N Hot curling iron. I'm surprised I have any hair left :perplexed

:nono: Yes, this was me. It took me 3 years to start asking myself is my hair as healthy as it could be?

:lachen:Its the same thing, i guess its just some ghetto mess, but all the people around my area have called it that since i can remember :lachen:(:nono:)

Gosh to think about the things I used to do to my hair back in the day is really sad . Too rough on it, blowfrying - with the FINE TOOTH comb attatchment, flat ironing with a gold n' hot ceramic iron with burnt plates lol (it used to get REALLY hot and SMOOOOOOOOOKEY! I sure did use heat protectant, but um how much help do you really think that was...), hearing that sizzle with an electric hot comb (BEFORE flat ironing, this was step one), moisturizing with Pink Lotion, overlapping self relaxers, never deep conditioning. I went natural and then put it up in a weave to grow my hair out, and with the help of my amazing stylist it did (I still abused my hair in some ways though - the hair left out - but it's back to full health now). My stylist was actually AFRAID to let me wear my natural hair out because she was afraid that I would break it off. I havent seen her since Dec, boy is she going to be quite surprised! lol

I used to think it was normal to see CLUMPS of hair in the comb or brush when detangling (what I knew as "trashing the hair out"), although deep inside it disturbed me to see hundreds of little pieces of broken hair all over my shoulders and the sink. I'm not sure how I maintained having shoulder length hair then... :perplexed:nono:

Too funny!

When I was broke and doing my own hair, I actually would wash weekly with CON (I was the dandruff queen) and use Cholesterol. But... I would brush my wet hair (relaxed bone straight of course) into a tight ponytail, apply 1/2 bottle of pink oil mositurizer, some brown gel and leve it for a week (see...I was protective styling!)

When I wanted to be cute, I would set my hair on sponge rollers and spray SPRITZ on each section before rolling it so the curls would stay. I would then spritz my hair again every morning to keep the curls "crunchy".

Then, I got a good job and went to the salon every week. Outside of getting a relaxer every 5 weeks (bone straight), I would alternate between "hard styles" (pin-ups with spritz and crunchy rods), and soft styles (doobie wraps which I would maintain by oiling my hair with Keracare essential oils daily and wrapping to a limp shine). By the way, my stylists version of conditioning was apply and rinse. Her only comb was a rat tail, and the relaxer stayed in until I couldn't "take it" anymore.

Of course, I thought getting my hair done weekly would make it grow. I never made it past the nape of my neck:lachen:!

Since LHCF, I no longer have dandruff, and my hair is thriving. I have a long way to go, but my hair is so much healthier.

We've come a long way - shoot, some of y'all had a pretty good regi, using Keracare & stuff... I had never heard of it before this board.

Fluffy... hahaha there are TONS of ghetto messes out there! I have probably used each and every one of them! haha
:reddancer:

And you couldn't tell me nothing when I had my set waves... the hard brown gel hair. I could keep mine for almost 2 months by re-applying gel, oil sheen, hair spray & sleeping half way sitting up. And then I had nerve to have some loose hair hanging in the back. You can imagine how gross all of that was when I finally washed it out. YUK

i used to grease my scalp with this hair food with little herbs in it or the blue grease every 3 days, go to the salon every two weeks wash every month fry my hair with tongs when not in salon
using a 2 in one (poo n con) in my hair or johnsons baby poo n con

I would relax 8-9 times a year and pull through the ends sometimes
I would blowdry, flat iron and use a curling iron to bump the ends
I would grease my scalp a few times a week and grease my hair when it got dull
I used Pantene to wash it
I deep conditioned when I couldn't comb through it.

I just want to add

Gold N Hot is the Debil!!!

That crap broke my hair from BSL to SL when I was 11 years old.:wallbash:

I think so too. I remember my mom frying her hair off with Gold n'hot when I was younger. She always said that they were way too hot.

My regimen couldn't even be called a regimen, LOL. In my college days, for instance, I would wash my hair maybe twice a month (once every other week). I never deep conditioned (come to think of it, I'm not sure if I even used conditioner!! :perplexed). I almost always slept on my hair withOUT any type of covering, scarf, etc. I used oil sheen and pink oil for "moisture", lol. I ripped through my hair with small combs after shampooing it. The worst part it, I put tons of oils and crap on my hair whenever I flat ironed it on wash day. I flat ironed my hair DAILY....often times SEVERAL times a day...once in the morning and once in the evening!

My poor flat iron and curling irons smelled like burnt crispy fry-dried hair! But you wouldn't catch me using those irons (or my blow dryer) unless they were turned all the way up to the maximum heat level!!

It's a wonder I even HAD any hair :nono: Thanks goodness I came to my senses...and thank goodness for LHCF lol :yep:

I washed my hair 2X a month with ORS poo and the ORS mayo
Relaxed my entire head every 4 weeks:lachen: Dark n Lovely until I found African Pride relaxer. I greased my hair daily with Sulfur 8. I used a curling iron daily for styling. I had the longest hair ever near APL. Go figure. It seems my hair grew better with the bad practices, but I won't be doing that again.

washed when I felt like it. . . or when it stank. . . usually every 2 weeks. everyday reggie was probably grease and pink lotion. . . as far as relaxers, probably like 6 weeks, overlapping. I would blowdry my hair straight, then just curlers, then roll it up. . . all that damn heat on top of bone straight hair. . . talk about fried! :nono:

washed once a week usually with head and shoulders
dc with - that loreal conditoner for relaxed hair(i liked that stuff i wish they still made it) matrix sleek look, and some all soft heavy cream. i guess i was pretty good about that.
blowdry in sections with wide tooth comb then a normal comb then a fine tooth comb.
flat iron with my chi.

i never did protective styles i slept on a satin pillow case but it just wasnt enough to combat the breakage.

Lets just say frequent perms, wash my hair ONLY when I was getting my perm cuz i was too lazy to do it alone, blowdryer with wet hair, gold n' hot curling iron and lots of Spritz....and even gel :ohwell:. This was prior to me going to the dominicans and getting rollersets. I NEVER had a deep conditioning prior to them:nono:

My regimen was so bad I think :ohwell:....maybe :look::

-I used to relax 1-2 a year
-Deep conditioned (eggs, hair mayo, Ion products)
-Didn't use grease (but did use products that contained mineral oil and still do, but with very small amounts-hey can't knock what works)
-Washed regularly (5-10 days)

Bad Things:
-When I didn't wet wrap to airdry, I would put my hair back in a ponytail/bun with lots of ecostyler gel and a little spritz for firmness.

BUT I knew to rinse and condition my hair before I even thought about manipulating it. It help me maintain a low-mani hairstyle.

My regimen varied week to week. The only thing I remembered was I went to the salon every two weeks and get a dominican blow out with every wash. Did I tell you I have had color in my hair since 9 years old. Courtesy of pharmacy bought Dark and lovelyhair color (with Amonia) (The Devil)

Moisture provided my Razac creamy moisturizer LOL Oh and deep conditioning was an extra treat you gave your hair when u wanted to. no wonder why I never passed jaw length.

i washed my hair 1ce a month with any shampoo i found. rarely even instant conditioned. never ever deep conditioned.
used to put my hair in a very tight bun in the same position everyday using LOTS of gel. (can u imagine the buildup)
used to put blue magic grease in my hair.
i used to stretch relaxers though but not on purpose

in spite of all this my hair still grew to BSL and stayed that length for 5 years b4 it eventually started falling out. i cnt believe how on earth it survived 4 that lng.

oh yh i 4got. i used to blowdry all the time and then when i stopped the bun i flat ironed everyday.
TERRIBLE I KNOW!

I NEVER deep conditioned my hair:sad:
I faithfully got relaxers every 4-6 weeks.
I was the "Queen of Wraps"
Heat Protectant? What's that?
I used to wrap my hair up every night with those thick 100% Cotton Bandanas:sad::sad::sad:
