Really BIG choppers (1 to 3 inches) support thread

Addy, i guees we all had dry hair when chopped, some girls said they still have it. What i did was DC the whole night, i did it three nights in a row and my hair started to feel so soft. I also use a homemade spritz with a lot of oil in it to prevent my hair to go dry again

Thanks. I just might try it, I deep conditioned a day or to ago but it still seems dry. I may try to deep cond again I also think/kno I havnt found the right products.

OK LADIES....Drum roll please...

I figured out my hair!!!! :yay:

I used the Tightly Curly Method created by Ms. Teri.

It works so great with my hair. I don't feel all frizzy and poofy anymore. It also weighs my curls down, but not too much. It was the balance I needed. :yep:

I am actually happy with my TWA since I did the BC back in June.

Pics below!!!

Great thread. I chopped off the little hair I had left but it's kind of uneven. I just tried kinky curly custard (I'm 4a) and I love it. It's going to be a regular for me. It's also much easier to use than miss jessie's curly pudding.

Right now I do shakes with glycerin and styling gel. I shampoo daily with suave kiddie poo, finish off with instant conditioner, towel blot, apply a base of world of curls activator, and top it off with fantasia styling gel. it's alright for now...it really prevents my hand in fro disease due to all that goop, LOL, but as a style it's good to go :)

I BC'ed after about 5 months, and I had 2 inches stretched, but I have a huge shrinkage rate. Now I'm at about 4-5 inches stretched but its only 1-2 inches in its shrunken coils. As some other ladies mentioned, scarfs, headbands and flowers have been my friends. Now that its a bit longer I can flattwist the front and have a mini-fro in the back. When I got really tired of my twa everyday I did twists and cornrows to mix it up.

I'm planning to do twists again next month and just keep them in until the end of the year, just to get my hair a chance to rest and grow undisturbed.

Accessorize!!!! I chopped down to 1 inch last Sept. My advice to you ladies is to add clips, a headband, barrets, hair flowers or whatever if you feel bored or your hair is just too short to style very much. It makes a big difference..and it looks cute. :)

ITA! I love going HUGE with the earrings when I'm wearing a TWA! And I love my headwraps to, they're easier to get on when I have less hair.

I BC'd on Saturday. I just went into the bathroom with my hair shears and chopped it off. How liberating! Even though I've been natural for over 4 years, sometimes you just need a new start. I was experiencing more breakage, and uneven hair in the back, so I just cut it all off.

I am eager to chart my progress, and really enjoy my hair this time around. I've never done that before. I have an addiction to the BC, I think, but I am always so eager to grow it out, that I forget to enjoy what I have in the moment.

I think it's great that we're also sharing reggies! I'm always interested in learning what other people are using.

I think that for those who are dealing with it, before you assume scab hair (unless you know for sure) the culprit may lie in the way your hair was cut. Whenever my hair is cut using clippers, the result is ALWAYS very hard/crunchy for a few days. Like Taina said, being diligent about the DC will help with that.

Scissor cuts are better for curlier heads as the blunt cut you get with clippers will make your hair hard. When you can't avoid a clipper cut, follow up with (and I know this is not a popular notion...) a few scissor cuts just to dust the ends and get the curls back on track. This is what I plan to do. When I cut my hair on Sat. it was so soft and pretty - yesterday I went to the barber for a shape up, and he evened up my hair, and now it's a tad too crunchy for my tastes.

I have about 3/4 inch all the way around, maybe less in the rear/kitchen. I'm so happy about it! I love it! I keep touching it...see, I just did it again! :lachen:

Here are some products I can suggest for moisture/styling based on prior experience, and ones I know I'll turn to again:

1) EVOO and a scalp massage nightly
2) Sebastian Wet. Great for curl definition
3) Elasta QP Feels Like Silk (careful, use too much, hair feels gummy!)
4) Let's Jam Gel (looks great...just don't touch you hair afterwards...)

HTH! :) I look forward to reading more of your suggestions!

Happy Growing! :)

i'm not sure if anyone has bought/used/using a lace wig but i just bought 2 custom wigs to wear. i know some of you may be bored and or tired of the baby do's. i'd just thought i'd share my input. my wigs are being custom made so it'll take 6-8 weeks. i can hold out until then:yawn::grin: i know some of you may want hair for the snowy winter. if dh and i travel this winter, i'll have one on for sure.

I know all about styles for the twa. In fact I have a fotki album for twa styles just to help those that did a major bc out. I transitioned for 3 months prior to the bc it is growing nicely. I co-wash daily with either Aussie Moist or Moisture Maniac. i shampoo and deep condition once sometimes twice a week with neutrogena triple moisture shampoo and deep recovery mask. My fotki is www.fotki.com/bermudabeauty

I don't wann do this again. Is the third time i do the BC, but is harder this time, i'm desperate to have at leat earl lenght hair.

Yea I have a lace wig especially in prepartion for that akward twa phase...for me that usually occurs around months 3-4 sometimes into 5 months. So I plan to wig it out or sengalese twist it out...:yep: I still love my "baby do's" or twa just need something to cope for colder seasons. I currently have a straight one but I think I need to find a curlier one to wear.

I BC'ed for the 2nd time in january to about 2 in....growth has been a little slow (mostly in the front) but this is my current length as of today......

Your twists are so pretty! I love them!

I can understand. It's not always easy to start over. I wanted to cut it, and I needed it, so I don't feel that way. But when I cut it in Dec. 07, I needed it but didn't want it, and I couldn't wait for my hair to grow out.

Unfortuantely, I didn't take as good care of it as I should, and ended up where I am now. I wore too tight braids and allowed my hair to be heat-abused, so I had no real options other than to watch it be totally uneven, or cut it off and start again with what I now know.

You shouldn't have to do a BC again, just keep up with your routine and you will be fine! :) You should have ear length hair in a few months, acutally! It seems like a long road, but you can make it! :hug2:

Late as usual, but this is a great thread. After I reached mid-back, just got bored and cut it off. BC'd in July so I'm two months in. I CW every other day with Suave, and use conditioner as my styler along with castor oil or coconut oil. On dry hair I use shea butter.
Can't figure out how to add a pic.........:wallbash:

I sure hope so.....I'm keeping it pretty simple this go around......the color I have on my ends was all over and i didn't take care of it. I get my hair twisted every 2 weeks....so that keeps my hands out of my head....put JB castor oil on my scalp and keep the twist and ends moist and conditioned with an herbal mist......I plan to keep the twist thing going for an entire year.....

^^^that may be the route I go too, bcandace! I'm definitely going to choose low maintenance/non-loose styles for the next year! No more damage for me! I think I'll start at about month 2 or 3 with comb coils, and just keep going from there. Healthy hair is my quest!

When you use Castor Oil, do you mix it with other oils, or just apply it straight to your scalp?

BermudaBeauty -- I'm almost ready to run home and grab the scissors after seeing all those variations of the TWA! Thank you!

I have that hair food pomade one from sams24 so I just put it on my scalp and sometimes on the ends

Will be completing my bc tonight.
I plan on keeping it out long enough for me to co-wash everyday and dc for however long i need to get my hair good and moisturized, then i will be braiding it up,as the colder weather is on its way here:sad:
I kinda wish ihad bc'ed at the beginning of summer,so i could have co-washed every day in the heat.I'm so ready now though.

Saw the pics in your fotki and they are awesome!

Question...

How do you do your coil outs (the one where you had the little flower in your hair)?

I didn't transition at all. I shaved my head a few days after a fresh relaxer. I will be checking out this thread to learn more. My hair was really dry for the first couple weeks and is now feeling better. heeeehawwww

WOW how you decide to do it after relaxed? THAT is brave. Congrats girlm, and welcome.

Yesterday i flat iron my hair :lachen: just because. My hair looked like a straight afro!!! but it straighten better that i could imagine with my very simple revlon iron. If only i have a curling iron :( because the hair still to short for my rollers :nono:.

Just checking in to say hey!!! My hair loves to be co-washed, since it is getting cooler any ideas for keeping it moist?

Oh, I remember those days. Don't worry, you'll get there and will be rolling away. You'll look back and laugh at these days. I had to use on of those little, itty, bitty curling irons to get the backs and sides back in June. Now, I can get them with a 1 inch flat iron. That is when I flat iron. I am pretty much staying away from the heat. That's why I'm pretty much estimating the growth now. I have a lot of shrinkage.
