Question for ladies with bra strap & longer lengths

I almost feel silly for asking this question, but this situation is new to me. Every time I put a bag on my shoulder, the hair gets around it and when I pull it off there goes my head moving down right along with it. This bothers me, because well I don't want my hair to break off.

My hair isn't even really long and I'm having this problem, I'm wondering what it's going to be like when it's long. Now I see why women flip their hair all about, because it gets in the way when it's out :perplexed

How do you ladies manage all the hair from getting in the way?

I bun a lot
or carefully put on my bag. so that my hair lays over the strap and not all around it/under it, like those white girls.

For me, it meant being more aware of keeping my hair away from under my purse strap (and other things) when wearing my hair loose. Eventually, it becomes a habit and unconscious, as with the hair flips.

It happens to me too, but lately I've been wearing my hair tucked under in a fax-bob of sorts, however I do love to enjoy my hair down.... so for me it's just getting used to pulling my hair out of the way as I would if I were putting on a necklace. After a little bit it just becomes second nature after the habit is formed.

Oh lord, I thought I was the only one. My hair use to get caught in the seat belt, my purse strap, when I put a shirt on, etc. But I got into the habit of flippin my hair around before I do such tasks.

One time while driving in my car with my window down, I decided to close it because my hair was blowing everywhere. Then all of a sudden I feel a sharp pain in my head. I closed my hair up in the window. I couldn't believe I actually did that.

When I am in the office, I pull my hair over a shoulder so it wont rub against the chair seat. The same goes when I put on a purse or something.

This happens to me a lot now that I have started wearing my hair down again. I try to be concious of it and move my hair out of the way when I'm putting my purse on my shoulder, but I don't always remember or get all of the hair out of the way.

This may not always be practical, but one of my co-workers suggested I carry a purse that can be held comfortably in my hand, that way at least some of the time I can avoid purse straps pulling out my hair.

Thank you Thank you ladies! I think that I'm going to start using my handbag, until I can remember moving it to the side all the time with shoulder ones...lol :D

Tyboogie, that is too funny about the hair in the window situation. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time though.

First I would like say that your hair is gorgeous, I don't have that problem since I cover my hair when I go out, but yesterday I zipped my hair up in the zipper of my garment when I was getting dress, and my hair is not even out it's in about 6 big platts. So now I know to make sure my hair is not laying over my shoulder while dressing.
Another thing you could do to make sure it doesn't get caught under the strap is to grab your hair with the other hand and move it to the opposite side while adjusting or putting on your strap over your shoulder, then let the hair go when your done.

Same here. Over time, you get used to pulling it aside or holding it so you can put the bag on your shoulders. This was a big part of the reason I wear protective styles so often.

That's why I wear buns so much.

When I wear my hair down I'm constantly tossing it out of the way. I've had my flat ironed hair drop into the toilet :barf:

buns and ponytails. last week I had my hair down and it was very windy, hair was flying around everyway, getting under my tote bag:lol:

I close my hair in the car door:eek: when I was getting out of the car. I usually keep my hair in a bun or other protective style's.

Also I have been washing my hair in the kitchen sink and had some hanging in the drain and I thought eeewwwwwwwwww:confused: so now obviously I don't let it slide down there. dh is always joking he's going to turn on the disposer.

OP: you have some beautiful hair

Ok, I appreciate and I can't believe the compliments on my hair. I just thought it was ok for what it is to be quite honest. I have such a long way to go and am actually more inspired by you all, then thinking my hair is all that great. I'm just a young buck here starting out :)

Oh no, hon! I didn't drop the flat iron into the toilet! My hair fell into the toilet. When it's completely straight after being flat ironed it's longer. I bent over to turn on the water in the bathtub a big section of hair trailed right into the toilet.:ohwell:

   Sounds like me! I closed my hair in the car DOOR before!!! Oooh, i was heated!!!!! :lachen:

In terms of the purse situation......... i always move my hair to the side before slinging my purse on my shoulder. Its simply habit now. Im not trying to hear no hairs snapping unnecessarily. Now THAT is the most painful sound in the world: Hair loss that could have been prevented! :perplexed

Omgoodness! I can't imagine working with hair that long. How do you wash it and style it? It must take hours!

about my hair, after awhile i just got used to flipping it left or right to move it out the way. i hate the sound of "snap" when it accidentally gets caught in my bag or clothing
