I don't mind..if it sounds reasonable...I say this because I haven't posted new pics in ages...my digital camera is broken but I do give good advice ladies...but I do look for 4a/bs advice more often....

I said "yes" because as far as I'm concerned, I've actually benefited MORE from products that aren't specifically made for "Black hair" like Nexxus, and Vatika Hair oil, and I'm a 4b! I will say that the only people I REFUSE to take advice from are people with jacked up hair. Your hair is screwed, yet you're gonna tell me how to take of of MY stuff? Thanks, but No thanks...

It all depends on what this advice is (there wasn't a poll option I wanted to choose). And sometimes another's advice can make you come up with your own good idea! Also, I'm likely to try anything that doesn't put my hair or health at risk!

I will take hair advice from someone that does not have pics but I do look at their hair type to see if its close to mine for product recommendations (for example relaxers and conditioners)

I agree!:) :) :)

Good point!:) :) :)

yes if their hair type and situation correlates to mine/something i have questions about or want to be enlightened about...also it gives you some ideas on how to handle your own hair woes or etc. so yes... i have always benefited from the info on this hair board..so i am more likely to take advice here than anywhere else anyway so....

Folx take my advice all the time and I havent had any pics up since about 6 months after my BC. (Feb 2005) :D

In one word no

I have found that what works on relaxed 4b hair doesn’t work the same on mine. Also without a pic I have no idea what type of condition the posters hair is in and different conditions could mean different products.
I will read their point of view but I won't actually consider purchasing something unless someone with similar hair type and condition recommends something.

Ok OK I get it I will sign up for a fotki album soon...ironically I voted that I wouldnt take advice..lol

I will take advice from people with pics or without as long as what they are saying is feasible. I don't know how many threads I've read where people gave really valuable advice and I didn't even bother checking to see if they had a fotki or not. However, I do like browsing pictures of hair products in people's fotkis. :D

Also, if someone with a different hair type gives a good tip, I'm going to follow it because there are just some tips that are universal, such as deep conditioning and making sure your hair has enough moisture. In addition to that, there are also products that are universal--regardless of the hair type. I'm 4a/b relaxed and I don't plan on going natural but I've seen many naturals give great tips on hair products which I've found work great for my hair, too (such as the Indian oils). In fact, my hair thrives more with universal products (like Garnier, CHI, Nexxus, etc.) than with some products made specifically for a certain hair type.

Furthermore, just because you see a picture of someone's hair and a list of products they've used doesn't mean you will be able to achieve the exact same look even if you use the same products they do and have the same hair type. I can't even remember how many women I've seen who said they bought the same products their stylist or someone else had and did not get the same results when they did their own hair.

I voted "yes". Pictures don't matter if the advice sounds logical. I do tend to look for other 4a/4b relaxed heads. But I will read ALL the suggestions - maybe I can modify something to fit my needs!

i totally agree!

I usually read all of the suggestions and since I don't have pics I can't be picky. But I do tend to look at signatures to see if we have the same hair type and if they are natural or not.

Since I don't have pictures, the answer would be I really don't care as long as the advice is sound.

I've never felt that just because you see it would make it so. There's lots of women on this very site that use some products that makes me break out in hives, but they have some luscious hair!

So being that I don't post pictures, (I do have them but I don't share them with anyone outside of family/close friends) I DO in fact try to give the best and most sound advice that I can.

That also means that I know that any product reviews I do may get overlooked by the majority, but thats ok and understood because I know most people are extremly visual here, so no biggie.

But on the other hand I've ran into some really interesting things along the way in my hair journey and do try to share them because they can also help others. Even if I can help one person thats good enough for me.

i 100% agree! i regularly take pics to track my own progress, but i very much doubt that they would ever be placed on the internet (i have a thing about random pics of me floating around cyberspace :p)...however, i'm on pretty much all of my vitamins based on the advice of many, many different people, and after having thoroughly researched what i was putting into my body as well...pics are nice, and while i don't think anybody on lhcf would be so triflin as to photoshop their pics, i know that's a possibility that's out there, and so i wouldn't try anything based on looking at pictures alone...different hair type is a different story for me. i prefer to use products that work for 4b naturals, but if someone who's a 2c is droppin serious knowledge about product info in general, i'll consider it....:look:

As I re-read this thread over again (this is a blast from the past), I can't help but think some people may be stretching the truth-juuuusst a little.:lachen: Some of yall know yall wrong with the "I'll take advice from anyone" claims but then turn around making polls where the user who voted can be seen-the blasphemy of it all!!:lachen:

But on the real, I stick by my original claims. I will take any advice if it makes sense, though pictures can add the icing on the cake.

I want to answer this as the NEWBIE that I am. When I found this site, I scanned through BUNCHES of thread looking at pictures and then reading the routines of people who had the hair I want to achieve. Maybe after some time (like all of you) the pix won't be as important but for beginners (and there are likely a lot of peole just reading and not joining) The visual effect is extremely important and a big part of the motivation that allows a newbie to believe that this type of length and hair health is possible.

Thanks to all of the ladies who post progress pictures and let others look. I plan to get mine up and running also. :) :) :)

Ha ha! The real question is rather will you take advice from some one who has pictures up but their hair is in so-so condition??? I give advice ALL THE TIME, and I'm mostly just regurgitating something I read on line or in a book that works for me, but I hope I am not sending some one away from good advice when they see my pics because the condition of my hair is questionable at the moment.

I think your hair is beautiful.:)

Photos can be deceiving. I've seen quite a few hair "glamour shots"...only posting the best of the best...then when I see them on other sites (myspace, etc), their hair wasn't as nearly as nice. I practice truth in advertising (my photos are a pretty good representation of my hair on any given day), but I don't expect everyone to do the same...especially with streching, no heat, etc.

I don't even go by photos anymore. I just listen to the advice to see if it makes sense and go from there. I'll even take product recommendation from different hair types if they describe in detail what the product did for them...then I can gauge what it might do for me.

Just my two cents. :ohwell:

It depends on the product. Every one's definition of shiney bouncy hair is different. What I may deem as light and fluffy another poster may not. So I like to look at the photos to see if the product is weighing the hair down (to me) or not.

No, I don't have any issues with taking hair advise from those who do not have pix. Pix are nice but not a necessity. Knoweldge is what I am after and I have gained alot from those without pix. If there are pix, then I must say that they inspire me to keep a vision of my hair goal and to keep on growing. ;)

It doesn't matter to me. Since I'm a novice, I'll take all the advice I can get. Any advice is good advice :)

I'm new, but I've gotten over that stage. Like people said the pictures make it more interesting, but after a while you just know what's more reasonable for your own hair. I do at times look at the hair type if it's available for some product recommendations. I've learned over the years that some products don't work as well for different hair types, so i don't see any harm in that.

Being a non pic person myself and just starting my hair journey I'd like to believe all of these positive responses but it seems like going through threads and being a newbie, hardly anybody responds. What I also notice is that people with longer hair get more participation on their threads. I'm not trying to start conflict or anything just making my observation.

depends..i usually can distinguish good advice from bad advice

so regardless of pics

i would take good advice from ppl with no pics...

i wouldnt try anything NEW on my hair anyway cos i'm stubborn like that and i dont like to spend effort or too much money on my hair
