I have heard a couple of different pronunciations for Aveda.

Some say A-vee-duh (where 'vee' sounds like 'wee').

Some say A-vay-duh (where 'vay' sounds like 'bay' in "ay bay bay!")

How do YOU say it?

when i first said it to my girlfriend I said a-vee-da and she was like yeah i really like a-vay-da products too!!! I felt like an idiot but figured she was right since I just started using the product...:spinning: But I say crazy stuff all the time so she probably didnt think twice about it....hahah

LOL! I have been saying A-vee-duh too...but I have heard several hair stylist saying it as A-vay-duh which sounds more upscale. I think I will stick with saying A-vee-duh since I'm kinda country anyway!

Yeah I say it both ways and I catch myself. I hope others chime in cause I have always wondered how people say it. I think when you go into the store they say welcome to avayda....

I say AH VAY DAH.........My aunt use to take me with her when I was small to the store all the time, so I just mocked how the people in the store said it.

I say A-vee-da...out of habit. But I was told by a sales rep that it's pronounced A-vay-da.

Before I visited the store I pronounced it A-vee-dah but the sales associate pronounced it A-vay-dah so I figured that was the correct pronunciation.

I used to say a vee dah but I was watching Tyra's show and she was talking about how she uses some a vah dah product and I figured that was probably the right way to say it.

I wonder who named the company.
I knw they use ayurvedic principles but the meaning of aveda is : Against the Veda.:look:

Still....That doesnt take away from the quality of the products

This is good to know. Everytime I am in the store I am too embarrassed to ask and I never catch the sales rep saying it:blush::blush::blush:

I WAS saying ah-vee-da but know I know that the correct way to say it is ah-vay-da...thank you...I learn something new everyday!

My best friend is a receptionist at an Aveda concept salon and she pronounces it Ah-vay-duh, so I've always said it that way. It has never occured to me that it looks totally different than that, will wonders never cease!

I've always pronounced it as A-vee-dah.

Just like I pronounce Fotki, F-ot-ki (short "o") instead of F-oot-ki like everyone else

I used to say A-vee-dah, til I learned from a classmate, and later on Aveda reps that it's pronounced Ah-vah-day. Now I say it that way.

I used to say a-vee-duh, but then one day I was listening to a conference call :phone:from the company that owns the product line (quarterly earnings report) and the CEO pronounced it a-vay-duh. I was like, "Oops, I"m salty!" :thought:

Shoot for those prices if I wanna call it "mac'n cheese" so be it . I usually say Av-ee-da I've heard the other pronunciationthough tomaayto...tomaaahto.

It's soo funny that you posted this because I was with group of ladies from the Natural Meet-up group and we started talking about Aveda. Three of them called it A-vay-da. And I call it A-vee-da. So, I started thinking, "damn, am I saying it wrong." :lachen:

ETA: Damn, I just read the other threads. So I HAVE been saying it wrong!!! :lachen:
