Patti Labelle dissing natural hair?

The girls hair needs to be combed, detangled and moisturized. It was totally matted up. and food in it, gross. The main question is how long has this food been in it.

Good question, who feeds a child caramel sauce in the a.m? Thats not right...
Mother's hair looked HAM too. :evillaugh: If she's going to continue to attempt to straighten her own hair, its just a matter of time she will do that to the daughter.

I said the same thing about the mother's hair! Maybe she was going for that messy look :look:

I don't mind the word "nappy" but the way she chose to use it was negative and annoying. Patti is old school but that doesn't excuse the tomfoolery.:perplexed

Bill Maher and Ali made more sense than Patti and they don't know much about natural hair. Patti definitely gets the side eye!!

I watched it too and I think the girl's hair needed some managment. I mean seriously you can't let your child walk around with their hair all matted and full of junk... that's just nasty.

And what's so wrong with the word "nappy"? What word are we supposed to use? I don't know the PC term for nappy. But, then again that's probably opening a can of worms I'm not ready to deal with.

I also think it was reaching to expect this wm to know how to care for black hair absent him being taught how to do so.

It sounds like she was more so saying that the kid needs to have her hair cleaned and combed. It was looking a hot damn mess. At least comb the hair. It was all matted.

This is the same thing I got from viewing this. Patti also told the mother she needed to change her attitude and said the baby could look good with washed beautiful BIG hair. I don't understand why the father would send her out without washing her hair and leaving it matted and I don't think this was so much about the child's texture but more about being clean and presentable and imho the way he wanted to send her to school was not presentable. The father also said he didnt want to do her hair because it takes to much time......that just sounds selfish to me.

Halle Berry's daughter (Nahla) is a perfect example of how to have loose, curly yet tamed hair.

There is nothing tamed about that child's messy hair. Ever. I'm convinced Halle hardly ever touches it lol

Patti is old school. Patti couldn't walk around with natural hair back in the 80's and still be on top like their daughter could. Natural hair has taken the beauty industry by storm. And Lawd, if they said grease one mo' time! I will say this, My husband is more like the girl's father. I tried to coach my husband on how to do our daughters hair before they all left on vakay while I was working. When I saw the fb pictures, he had our daughter looking just like that little girl. He was so proud of what he had "done" to her hair, he gushed about it. She looked a HOT Mess. White guys like the free flowly natural look, but don't realize the cost of that look is dry, tangled curls and a straight up side eye from ALL black mothers, lol.

Couldnt stand to watch the whole thing....i appreciate both sides tho....the girl looks cute whether in the ponytails or natural....im just tired of ppl being ignorant of how to talk about us as Black people.:nono:...especially when its our own talking about US!...so regardless of how it ended i wasnt feelin Patti right there:nono:...love you Patti but ---->_/

This is the thing that irked me the most. I hate when ignant black folk get a platform and start spewing out all this misinformation and have everybody thinking ALL blacks are this way. We are already generalized enough. Please don't let everybody thinking that because your naps aren't suppressed by barrettes and braids that it's not clean and blacks need the butters. Even though I'd be ashy without them:look:

i think she was saying the girls hair was nappy and and needed to be clean because it was nappy and dirty. The child had lint and caramel in her hair! That's dirty! lol While I do think the mom was being a little extra (the child doesn't have to wear ponytails all the time, she can do a wash and go) I think the Dad was being extra too. You can't just wake her up and send her out without detangling or smoothing her hair. All of her pretty hair would break off or get SSK. They just need to meet in the middle. Also, I never took nappy as being a bad term after reading Nonie's post one day. I think someone has it in their siggy.

I think the girls hair needs a wash and comb, nothing wrong with four pony tails.
Nothing wrong with nappy.

Nothing new!

And I love Bill and I love me some Patty :)
Maybe the wife can sit down and teach the husband how to style and care for it, like in the video but from start to finish.

smdh at Patti. And it doesn't help that the first thing out of her mouth was nappy this nappy that... :nono:

Patti: She's a different generation and I always give them slack

Favorite line so far (have not watched it all):
Bill: Why can't we let the girl wear it natural like that?
Patti: You've never had black hair
Bill: I've had it on my pillow

well, alright then.

That's it really. I don't mind the girl's hair being free but it looks matted which can lead to tangles and eventually cutting off parts. My SIL does this all the damn time with my niece (lets her hair be free without combing it or putting stuff in it) :wallbash:and when it's time to shampoo and detangle, it's a horrible mess. Both parents need to be schooled in how to take care of her hair.

^^^ if we accept the notion that black people need grease, then it follows that excessive greasiness is a sign of a wealth, prosperity and fully-realized blackness. you betta give patti and her greasy legs props!

nothing wrong with natural hair but just b/c you are natural doesn't mean your hair should not have a style and look unkept. her hair wasn't right. patti was right.

Patti is old school...just brain washed...sad...

true, Patti is old school; of a different generation, etc, but please remember it was HER generation that began a natural hair movement with the afro in the 60s/70s. So I would expect a different attitude from her.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about it is a game show. and do you know how old patti is????? that is the term they used back then. it depends on when you were born as to what term and words you will use for what ever. she was playing her part in the game that is all... as much as she worn her hair natrual all her years of showbiz. that couple was playing along to get on that show to win that money.

the mom is a fool. if shes so concerned with her children looking well put together then why is her daughters hair dirty??? slapping on greas to make it shiny and sticking it a few braids does not a clean head make.

im on dads side.
its funny how the dad just wants the daughter hair to be free as it is and the mom just keeps making it a race issue.
