I told a woman today I liked her hair, and she said thanks, but she sounded kinda stank. It was hot out, maybe she was tired.

I almost got to another woman, but she crossed the street too soon.

Way to go! I am noticing more natural women since I was on TV with my BC! This week at my conference it was great to see many women with natural hair!

Since my BC I feel that many relaxed people are more "confessional" meaning they tell me why they are relaxed and wondered how they could manage their hair. With natural people I get the how long ago did you do the BC and share stories of how long its been for them and their journey.

Also I have noticed that a lot of ppl feel that if you wear natural hair then u must be "Hippie/ Neo Soul/Erykah Badu/Jill Scott". They expect me to be this all-natural vegan/vegetarian weird person and it isn't even that deep. I was tired of relaxers. I know how to take care of my hair so why not be natural.
I have been called Jill Scott no less than 3 times. I am short, skinny and yellow as the sun. :lachen:

I'm glad you feel this way, OP. I hope it continues.

Mswoman, you are really getting it. So much respect for you!

Before you know it, your students will know you ask the woman they saw on television with the natural hair. Maybe you could even parlay it into a little side career.

I have yet to find someone to have a natural hair care convo with. You don't know how I'm hoping...

And I forgot, I complimented a girl yesterday too. Four this week!

I have observed at my work site and while walking to work that natural hair is becoming very, very obvious in many age groups{perhaps I'm noticing more since I'm now natural.} I've also noticed how a few women actually are reaching up to touch their processed hair after they view/stare at my natural hair. I love seeing the different styles represented, not just braids but full out afros, chunky, trimmed,wild and uncombed, twists. I think something good is happening in the black world and I love the change. We are going into a new cycle of acceptance{?:look:}

That's wonderful, OP!

I agree that many black women aren't anti-natural... but many of them just don't realize they can be (that was me for many years), don't want to deal with/don't know how to, or aren't willing or prepared to deal with the backlash from the anti-natural people out there.

So, ladies, I just HAD to share this!

A few weeks ago, in another thread, I mentioned that one of my professors had long, healthy relaxed hair, a little below BSL, I'd guess.

Imagine my surprise when I walk into class one day... and she's NOT RELAXED AT ALL! I was shocked, and so excited I could feel my heart pumping! Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about hair ?:lachen:

So I've spent the past two weeks just blatantly staring at her head from the front row of the class. At least she thinks I'm being attentive. But seriously... let me try to describe the lusciousness that so unexpectedly graced mine eyes...

This BIG, THICK, MASS of kinkety-curly hair. It's so friggin' thick, things could get lost in it. It's about SL, but doesn't touch it - it is some serious shrinkage and built-in protective styling! Her coils are silky, but wiry but I can tell they must be soft and moisturized. And her edges... :lovedrool: Perfection! And her waves are so deep, I just want to run my hands over them. :look:

I'd been wanting to tell her about her hair for a week now, so when I got some free time after class, I called her over and told her, "I love your hair! I would've never guessed you were natural! Your hair was so straight, I thought it was a relaxer."

She laughed and said thank you. I asked her what she did or if she went to a salon. She said she blowdried (and the way she said it made it sound like this wasn't a regular occurence! hm...) and then flat ironed. At this point, I expected her to say CHI or something, but she paused for a minute and said Gold n Hot! I was stunned.

I then asked her how she got her edges to lay so perfectly, and she answered, quite bluntly, "a scarf," and then went over to her bag to pull it out for me. :yep:

I wish I could take pictures for you all. The first day of class - her entire head was pin straight. Her roots were straight, her hairline, no curls or anything. And her natural hair would have some of you ladies drooling. :yep:

I love my campus.
