Our 1st Year of our HHJ *PICS PICS & MORE PICS*

Real Housewife of Houston
Our journey with health hair practices began with me wanting to give my daughter the best hair care possible. She has a lot of girl cousins that were born around the same time she was. I began to notice that their hair was flourishing and hers was not. That's what started me to begin searching on the web. The first thing I came to was Cathy Howse then BHM. On BHM I heard a lot about this site but I thought it was only for long haired women so I didn't immediately come here. After about a month I got the courage to check y'all out. I think I've only gone back to that site a hand full of times since I found LHCF. I became a paying member Dec '08. Here are our starting photos: (sorry I don't know how to resize)

This is the photo in my siggy. My hair was badly damaged and the sides broken off something terrible! You can see how fried it was.

Here is my DD. She was 3.

Here are some random photos after a few months of care. The dates are correct on all photos. I will try to put them in order....

This pic was a month before I cut my hair. I decided to get rid of the fried ends and start over.

Then there was my CHOP!!!! (4") I did it myself around 4am

I wore braidouts until I had enough to grab and put into a phony bun.

As you can tell, my DD's PS is braids. This isn't the best pic but here are some box braids that I did on her. They lasted 8 weeks. I added some hair to make it last longer.

I almost cried when I posted these pics. I know how important hair can be to the self esteem and I'm so blessed to have found this site. It all started because of my daughter. I don't want her growing up wishing she had 1 a/b (yt) hair like I did. I want her to have long flowing beautiful hair. Thank you LHCF:blowkiss:

Myself
Alternate beween poo wash and co-washing every 3 days with Silk Elements Poo and V05 Moisture Milk Condish. I only DC after relaxers (I don't stretch) with Motions CPR. I bunned most of the year but I recently fell back in love with twistouts. I re-wet them every night with my mix of V05 Condish and Water. It's SOOOOO moisturizing and CHEAP!! I seal with either ORS Olive Oil in the jar or with Hairveda Cocasta Oil. Oh, and if I have the $$$, I buy Joico K-pac products. They are SOOOOO moisturizing but SOOOOOO expensive!! but they are really good if you have the money to spend.
I only flat iron my hair for length checks, which is every 6 months (with the exception of my year end photos). I think heat was my major cause of damage, along with no moisture. I moisturize my hair twice a day.

DD
I keep her hair in braids for a low manipulation. I moisturize and seal her hair with the same products I use twice a day as well. I don't believe in letting the hair get dry. I wash and rebraid her hair on Saturdays.

We both are on a no heat reggie. We always air dry and I air dry her in about 4-5 braids. We sleep on satin pillowcases and I finger comb my hair everyday. I stopped using black rubberbands on her hair and just use a little beeswax. It works just as well. We clarify once a month with ION Clarifying Poo and V05 Kiwi Clarifying Condish.

I think that's it. I'm looking forward to this year and hopefully by the end of 2010 she will be MBL and I will be almost BSL. Thank you for reading!!!

xoxo

I was looking at your siggy pics last night. I was  at your thickness. Your dd hair's looks nice too. It's good to see so many moms tyring to learn about proper hair care. I wish my mom did.

Hey Girl,

You are doing a wonderful job with your daughter. You're bonding with her about beauty and a very important subject a woman mane and glory. She will flourish with a beautiful head of hair as she grows older. In ten years we will view her hair and say Wow what beautiful healthy long hair if she chooses. My 19 daughter understands healthy hair care.

Wow your hair is so thick and pretty. I could only see the last 2 pics of your DD's hair though.

I hope all of the pics are visible now. If someone still can't see them, please let me know. Thank you!!

Thanks. I can see the pics of your daughter's hair now. Great progress! My DD hair grows very slow in the back so I'm still working on it.

Topnotch10, your thread is pulling at my heart's strings. What an awesome journey witcho baby! :cry4: So touching! Even how you started your quest. *sniff*

OK, now about your progress.... :notworthy

I can't believe you snipped off 4 inches of your own hair. :thud: You're one brave loony, or must've been flying like a kite on that good good stuff! But after your cut, I immediately saw the silver lining. The thought that you had now hair that was without much wear and tear got me so excited...I couldn't scroll fast enough to see the rest of the story.

Very nicely told. Very enjoyable. Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

OMG!!! First off, you are so gorgeous!!! I always thought so when I saw your avi, I just never said anything before. Your DD is so cute, too!

Now, on to your hair! Wow. What a turnaround. You can really see the health has improved for both of you... and length is creeping up too!

Now your DD will be the little girl at school who has haters mad about her long hair! :gorgeous:

this is a great post! congrats... and kudos to you for seeking out what it would take to get your daughter's hair healthy and growing!!!!
