OFFICIAL SL 2009 HAIR CHALLENGE.........

I am officially ditching my flat iron! I literally have like an 1.5 inches left of relaxed ends on the top layer of my hair. I have noticed severe heat damage on the left side of my head. When my hair is wet it's straight and frizzy :nono: I really didn't like that. So in order to stop that from continuing I decided to to start doing protective natural styles. I ordered Miss Jessies slikening stretch cream and I like it. I did a twist-out and for the most part I did pretty good. I must say that I wish the cream left my hair feeling softer though. Oh well, It will take time for me to learn how to do my hair since it is all new to me.

Hey. Can I join? :prettyplease:

I
know it is already March, but I am trying to stay consistent, and this challenge will keep me focused. In anticipation that you will welcome a newbie HHGer, I am posting my answers below:

1. Give your current hair length and whether you are relaxed/natural.
Currently I am neck length in back (I think) and chin length+ on sides. Relaxed every 3 mos (about 12-14 weeks). Next relaxer end of June/early July.

2. Give the hairstyles you will be using and what products you use to make it. I mostly wear a bun, but I am looking for new styles since the bun seems to weaken my nape and middle back. Previously, I used heat after washing, but now with moisture and seal, I have not had to for the last week - plus my challenges says I can't anyway.

3. My working it out regimen
Daily - Moisture with Shea and Mango butter mixed with MT and AVG. Seal with Amla oil.
Wed - co-wash w/VO5 moisture milk with added amla powder (powder new this week)
Saturday - Wash, condition, and DC with Ellin Lavar, MT rinse
6 weeks - Aphogee 2 step (may skip since I am doing MT - will see how hair feels in 4 more weeks)
12-14 weeks - Relax with Optimum regular

I have been doing the Sat regimen (minus MT) since November. But since I have joined the boards earlier this month, I have seen the most difference in my hair. Hoping to reach shoulder length for my next relaxer end of June/early July. Wish me Luck!!

I would appreciate being an official member, but if not, I'll just lurk .

:thankyou:

You grow girl, keep it going:yep:
thanks but I got that uneven thing going and actually cut it last month to try and even it out so I could have had additional lenght. I may need to change my pony from the middle because that seems to be the short weak link.:nono: I'm transitioning also and that is where I have the most new growth.

March Update:
Out w/ the braids and in w/ the tracks. Braids should be out by the end of this week and I hope to get a weave wrap put in.

I took out my braids. I'm a little discouraged now. My hair is in a bun and looks CRAZY! I am eight months post I just don't know what to do with it. I thought I'd be able to do a length check when i washed my hair, but the shrinkage took the joy out of that too...alas....I'm getting my roots pressed and curled this Saturday, so hopefully, I will be brave and ask my stylist to take a photo of my straightened hair so I can do a check.

I still haven't taken my braids out yet. I'm going on 17 weeks post relaxer (trying to hold out for atleast 24.

Keep up the good work, Everybody!

Everything is going great so far. I probably will take some pictures this weekend before I put some braids in. I plan to keep them in until the end of May..

Here's my update ladies. I feel like my hair's growing at a snail's pace, but *shrug* what can you do. I guess it could be more than it seems since I cut off about 2" of relaxed ends. 100% natural now:

I have nothing to add about my hair. I'm starting to enjoy it more and have abused the WNG and puff for the last 3 weeks. I'll probably wash tonight and put in some twists.

Congratulations, Beans!

What were the approximate dates for those 2 pics? That looks like 4 inches of growth, great job! :)

Hold up, where's your newgrowth? You're 5.5 months post relaxer and your nape is as smooth as silk?! I don't understand. I have more newgrowth at 2 weeks post relaxer than you do nearly half a year post. Are you straightening your hair or is your hair texture naturally straight?
