Not sure I like the stares....

spicypeppermint, welcome to the hair club LOL j/k I'm so used to the stares and people looking at my hair to see if its a weave I've grown to accept it. When I ride the train or bus to work I always bring a scrunchie with me and put my hair in a ponytail. I've read too many horror stories about people cutting other women's hair or putting bubble gum in hair out of spite.

BTW I tend to stare at other BW's hair, too. I can't help it! Especially if its long and healthy. I'm definitely not hating, just admiring.

That is crazy! Thank you for the welcome.

I haven't seen any BW's hair that look even close to what some of the women on here have!

But I understand what your saying...sometimes I catch the train to work so I will either wear a beanie or a wrap because it's better to be safe than sorry!

See, nobody ever thinks my hair is fake! That's messed up. (goes off to pout... but wait)

Although, now that I think about it, people always think my weaves are real, even my friends. I never understand that. If you saw me yesterday with a sl doobie, how you think my hair got to bsl overnight? :lachen:

She's very pretentious as if she's my friend, but I think she has something against me even though I haven't said or done anything to her. She's hating me deep down inside.
I think they call that a "frenemy."

And also spicypeppermint, your hair in your siggy is AMAZING! That's my May/June goal (that makes my BC 1 year anniversary!).

lol I got that all the time....but I never fooled the sista's....I think we can "smell" weaves lol

Your hair is AWESOME:yep::yep::yep: You've done a marvelous job of caring for your hair. The warnings from other members are serious - on the mainly white board a woman's sister-in-law offered to help her brush her waist length hair, then CUT IT OFF to above the shoulders:wallbash:

Hair can cause some major ugly feelings in others, so protect that pretty hair.

That's the crazy part: the people I'm talking about are sistas, and they rock all kinda weave, all day, e'eryday! That's why it don't make no sense. :lachen:

True story: I have actually returned to my block with a fresh weave, saw one of my homegirls outside, and ended up showing her my tracks right there in the street*, cuz she didn't believe me! I didn't care, because I never front like it's mine (surefire way to get embarrassed), but it was mad funny.

*If this sounds odd to you, as I've mentioned elsewhere on the board, Harlem has a very weird hair culture, one in which showing your friends the tracks of your bangin-@ss weave in the middle of the street is less embarrassing than, say, going to the store looking busted. I love my hood sometimes. :lachen:

Where I'm from I don't see to many natural styles free of braids & weaves...I wish I did...hopefully I can lead by example. I've already been asked my regimen by a friend...little does she know I've only been doing this for a week! lol

Went to Walmart today to buy some more hair products. Only been on this board a WEEK and I'll ready I'm a PJ? LOL Thanks (Your Cheeziness)

I had just taken down a braidout and my hair looked GOOD. It was curly, shiny, healthy, edges slicked back and it fell past my shoulders but tell me why I felt like I was in a test tube?

One woman, 5 minutes into the store asked me what kind of wig I was wearing...

Folks were lookin at my hair like they were trying to find tracks. Some were straight staring. Others were cuttin their eyes like me like I had did something wrong! Now this WALMART was CROWDED in the hair isle so it wasn't hard to miss this weirdness!

I don't mean to generalize in ANY way I just never got that kind of attention when I had weaves. I hope I didn't offend anyone but I'm just seriously wondering what happened today.

Oh girl, that ain't nuthin' but the Chris Rock "Good Hair" effect! Let's face it....even though black people still watch Oprah on occasion, her main following is caucasian. So I wasn't surprised that after Chris Rock got on the Oprah show acting as if Black women couldn't grow hair, that I'd get questions and glances from people checking whether or not I had a weave when I walked in to work a few days later. I felt just like you but how could I blame them? After all, everyone and their grandmother witnessed a black man pretty much insinuate that black women can't grow long hair and if you do see one of us with length then it's 1) most likey a weave or 2) she's rich, wealthy or as Chris said, she has "Oprah" money!

I'm only shoulder length and because my hair looks so healthy I've had a few people ask me who did my hair and/or they look at my hair like they're trying to see into my brain! :look: Now I just use it as an educational moment and when they say crazy things like "wow, that's a really nice front lace" :nono: I just say something like," Nope it just grows right out of my scalp. Just check out longhaircareforum.com and it'll all make sense.....have a great day." and then I just roll out.

So I guess the only thing I can say is that the more comments and stares you get, the more beautiful your hair must be to them! Congratulations! ;)

I would reply. "You probably saw Chris Rock on Oprah" and do it with a big toothy grin. "yeah...Well, just remember, CHRIS ROCK IS A COMEDIAN. ALWAYS GOOD FOR A LAUGH EH?" and just shake my head in wonderment smile like I am so amused and walk away!

Girl your hair looks good! I know how you feel. I did a BC back in 05/09 and it's been 5 months and growing. I finally wore my hair straight (last week) and washed~n~go the remainder 3+ days.
(Anyway, not meaning to take away from your story), but today I was in the BSS looking for "make-up" (long story..lol). Nevertheless, these 2 sistah looked at my head and said, "You have a wave nouveu -- dont you!" Now, no offense to anyone who use this product -- but to myself I was thinking "What the heck is a WN?" So, I told the ladies, no my hair is natural!

Now mind you, my hair isn't that long -- but I was a lil set back that these women were so bold as to just throw that out there! My hair is about 2" unstretch and 5-6" stretch. So it's in a curly natural. Man! I love my sistas, but sometimes some of us can step beyong our boundaries...lol

AGain, your hair is gorgeous -- keep up the great work!

Did you ask them what the heck they were talking about? What did their hair look like? Its very curious that the ones with bandanna's or hair scarves seem to be the one with the most bizarre assumptions.
