What's up everybody! For 2008, I'm going to track where my money is going on hair related purchases, and I'm going to strive to minimize costs!! Who's with me?

Here are the rules:
  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearly
  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!!
  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!!
You get two passes for the year to pick up something you've been dying to try or something you desperately need. The goal is to see where your money is going and to grow long, healthy hair without breaking the bank!!!

If you could reach your goals for $50/year, would you do it???!!!

Here's my plan:

  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearly
    $100 for the year
  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!!
I will by poos or conditioners in bulk or mix the more expensive ones with cheapies
  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.
I will go back to self-relaxing - this will save me $240 per year ($60 every 3 months)
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007
I think I have what I need
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!!
    And you know this, man!

    My projections for 2008:
    Relaxers and bases - $20
    Shampoo - $20
    Conditioner - $25
    Moisturing product - $25
    Misc - $10
    Total - $100

:hiya:SweetPea! I'm in!

And needless to say, I was WAAAAY over my hair budget for 2007. I recently pulled myself out of debt :woohoo:, and I finally felt like it was time to spend some money on me...well on my hair :lachen:. So I've been going to the salon EVERY week for the past 8 months :look:. Pretty ridiculous since I usually end up bunning within a couple of days anyway. AND I take my own expensive *** Aveda products with me to the salon...only to have my prodcucts wasted cause "Mami no comprehende" :wallbash: that she doesn't have to use 1/4 of the bottle. :ohwell:

I'm ready to make a change. I want to be a money-conscious DIY'er! I'll be back with my quarterly budget.

I LOVE THIS THREAD.

Money management is something I am GREAT at.

A gift from God I like to say because I am not a math person but I love science and the arts.

Anyway, I am so in. This will be an easy one.

I am so in on this! I need this in my life

Here are the rules:
  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearlyMy quarterly allowance will be 75 bucks
  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!!
I will buy most of my favorites in bulk. I already love some cheapies that I can get for the low low at dollar store
  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.
I already self-relax and do my own rollersets. I do actually plan on getting my hair done more often but at the beauty school for 8 bucks instead of 30+ for a rollerset.
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007I will be buying a better dryer, solia flat iron and two tourmaline curling irons for myself for christmas. I also will get a handheld rusk hyperionic dryer
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!!
You get two passes for the year to pick up something you've been dying to try or something you desperately need. The goal is to see where your money is going and to grow long, healthy hair without breaking the bank!!!

Im In! I do this anyway with all my money and items i need.

Here's my plan:

1. Budget:
$20 every 2 months/ $120 a year

Every 2 months
-$2: OIL
-$4: Shampoo
-$3: Moisturizer/leavein
-$5: Protein
-$2: ACV/Lemon Juice

Total= $16.00

Extra $4 goes possibly to:
-extra taxes
-minor things (ponytail holders, plastic caps ect.)
-Finishing products (which last me a LONG time---gel, heat protecant, wrap lotion, oilsheen)
-Try something cheap and new
-Incase i run out of any of my staples

SweetPea,

I had to rate you girl...great thread!!

I haven't made a budget for myself (or my hair) for next year, but this is something I desparately need to do :ohwell:. I will post a budget at the end of this month, after I figure out my average consumption of products (as in, how long does it take me to go through a bottle) I'll have a better idea then.

Ooh, I'm subbing to this - will be back to update!

ETA:

  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearly
    I think I'll do 50 dollars a quarter.
  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!!
I already do the swish and pour with my conditioners - I'll have to get more serious about that.
  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.
Oh, yeah, this part is easy. The only thing I would pay someone to do is to put in extensions, and I've been talking about doing that myself for a MINUTE.
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007
I was kinda eying one of those heatcap thingies... hrmmm.
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!!
I can do that right in my journal - this should be fun!

Count me in! I already do everything myself and I've found some great cheap stuff that I'm in love with. This is a rough estimate, cause I'm not sure exactly how much everything costs. I'm sure it's cheaper, but I just wanted to overestimate to be safe :yep:

My yearly spending limit breakdown:

Relaxers- $28
Shampoo-$12
Conditioner-$25
Leave-Ins-$40
Misc-$20 (in case of a hair emergency )

Total-$125

I'll save reciepts and keep track of how much I'm spending. How often are we gonna check in?

I'm in, I spent wayyyy too much money on styling produsts and whatnot this year. My quartely hair budget is $50 that's good enough for me: that's the relaxer, base, oils, and other stuff. I just have to really think about those super expensive products (read: Aveda:grin:) and stretch them bad boys...

I'm all over this, New year means new things and I need to start giving myself a budget

1. Set a budget - $60 quarterly
2. Look for ways to make stuff last!! I must finish my products( that means not a drop can be left in the container) before I even think about buying more..........:look:
3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.
Since I'm natural this should be easy

Good luck to everyone

I'm in .... I'm a pj

I tried doing a budget this morning and it was $996. Thats too much money spent on hair. :perplexed

I tried revising and came up with

$125 Hair Appliances
$125 Hair Products
$200 Salon Visits
$25 Grocery Products ( honey, mayo, avocado)
$25 Essential Oils

I have no idea how I am going to achieve this .........Help

I wanted to :bump: this in case others were interested, and to fess up that I'm going to stock up on some Afro Detangler tomorrow, and some Elasta QP conditioners, and some more of my protien stuff - yes, yes, I'm stocking up to be sure I can stick to it!

Oooh...this is a nice challenge!:)

And just in time too.:yep: I've just streamlined my products and regimen and this will help

  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearly
Let's see....I have absolutely every thing I need: shampoo, conditioner, treatments and tools so this will really tie in with #2 I'll say $200 a year.

  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!!
Once again, I'm already do this. Because of my new regimen I'm able to use each of my Joico products sparingly. I will also look for sales and offers. I also have some points to redeem at Trade Secrets and my Candy Shop(my local BSS that has every thing under the sun:grin:) For example, each Joico Line has a specific purpose and use in my regimen, and then the cheaper Herbal Essence is more dispensible.

  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc.Already doing this. The next thing I need to learn is rollersetting. I already do practically everything else

  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007
After treating myself at Trade SEcrets the only thing I really want now is a Chi or SEDU flat iron. However, I JUST got my Jilbere so those two are on my Xmas list for 2008.

  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!!This is gonna be a tuffy:nono: I don't wanna:nono:but I will:ohwell:

I'm in. I've only been around for a few months (still have a tiny post count) but I went nuts and became an instant PJ. I feel great about my hair so my focus in 2008 is on my budget and my health. This fits perfectly.
  1. Set a budget - this can be quarterly, bi-yearly , or yearly - I will have to think about this one. I need to take into account things such as the hair, skin and nails supplements, henna, etc.
  2. Look for ways to make stuff last!! - Will do!
  3. Do it yourself! Why pay someone if you're capable and willing to learn something once and for all - rollersetting, straightening, relaxing, etc. - I don't pay anyone anything now, so I'm okay on this one. Now that I'm getting some length, I was considering visiting a salon but I think I'll go ahead and give rollersetting a try myself.
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007 - And to start that rollersetting off on the right foot, I'm going to need that PIBBS NOW!!!! It will be my last big purchase. Promise.
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!! - So, I was thinking that if I sell some of the stuff that I experimented with while trying to find my staples, it could be used towards extras? Can that be part of the rules?

My projections for 2008:
Relaxers and bases - $20
Shampoo - $20
Conditioner - $25
Moisturing product - $25
Misc - $10
Total - $100
[/quote]

Wow I really need this cause I spend this kind of money on hair products monthly. Anyway, count me in:

My projections are:

***Relaxer and bases - $100.00 I will be needing some Affirm and/or Mizani Butter Blend - want to use one at a time to see which one my hair loves more then I will use it as a staple relaxer.

***Shampoo - $50 (incl S/H) I need some Aubrey Organics honeysuckle rose shampoo and some Kenra clarifying shampoo.

***Conditioner - $50 (incl S/H) I need some AO honeysuckle rose, white camelia, and GBP conditioners, I really need some cone-free and paraben-free conditioners.

***Moisturizing products - $50 I have enough to last me about half of the year so I will needing to buy more by July 2008 for sure.

***Miscellaneous - $250 because I like my essential oils, carrier oils, mn and sulfur powder and I might run out of them.

So there my total is $500.00. Dang, how did that happen? I wonder if I could really do this. I know I desperately need to in 2008. I have no more room at the inn for any additional products. This represents less than half of what I normally spend the whole year. I need prayers girls:yep:.

My budget projection for 2008: $600

Salon Visits-$100 for 4 relaxers/once a month special treatments or style

Products-$50--went overboard in my PJism in 06 and 07 so I'm good when it comes to products, I'll just reorder my staples.

I tried this honestly but I couldn't do my own relaxers, I'm better off doing it myself before I end up bald or blind. I'm will master the rollersetting techniques, that is a major goal of mine.
  4. If you know you want something expensive, like a Pibbs, flatiron, or blowdryer, put it on your XMAS list or pick it up before December 31, 2007---I just ordered my Pibbs and my sedu a couple of months ago so I don't have anymore big ticket items planned for '08.
  5. Keep a ledger on how much you're spending so that you will know how much you're saving!! This may be difficult but I'll make an effort.
You get two passes for the year to pick up something you've been dying to try or something you desperately need. The goal is to see where your money is going and to grow long, healthy hair without breaking the bank!!!

If you could reach your goals for $50/year, would you do it???!!! Use the money to go on a Carribean Cruise.
