Naturals who ALWAYS straighten...what makes you stay natural?

My natural hair is healthier and longer than it has ever been before. I flat iron it every couple of weeks. I used to do it more often, but the longer it gets, the more hassle it becomes.

I'm also into natural, organic living. (Well, as much as $possible.:spinning:) I like the fact that I no longer use chemicals on my scalp. I try to avoid chemicals inside and out.:yep:

I always thought that the longer my hair grew, the easier it would be to wear it curly. For some reason, my friends told me that the weight of the longer hair would stretch out the waves, but they lied. It never happened.:nono: My hair still shrinks up above my shoulders.:look:

But isn't straightening your hair going against nature--what grows out of your head naturally? How are the use of chemicals any less unnatural than the use of a hot comb, blow out, or other heated method of straightening your hair?

Someone could argue that combing or even styling your hair is going against nature :lachen:.

I like that my hair is stronger natural than relaxed, so it can stand up to protein treatments (and actually thrive from them) and straighteners and anything else i try. When I was relaxed my hair would come out in clumps from trying new things or striaghtening too much.

I still have a texture, and I can be straight if I want. Its harder to straighten now that I'm like 65-70% natural, but my hair looks thicker and is healthier. I want to relax so much sometimes... but who wants scraggly straight hair when you can have thick straight hair?

I love the straight look. I have thought about texlaxing, but I think my hair suffers with any type of chemical. I agree with most of the reasons already stated. First, my hair is growing longer and I was never able to retain length with a relaxer. Second, my flat ironed hair looks and feels like silk - relaxed hair never was as nice. Third, I had to use tons of heat anyway when I had a relaxer, so now I am doing less damage since I don't have the chemicals. Fourth, I love the flexibility.

Wow. You ladies have really opened up my eyes. I was teetering on the edge of whether or not to transition. But I think I've made up my mind. I'm going to transition. I think that my hair would benefit from being natural and it would probably grow a lot faster. Hmph. Now the hard part, actually transitioning and resisting the relaxer.

I would BC, but my head is entirely too big to not have some hair on it. :lachen:
