All of the above...

I'll be honest, about a week ago I straightened a tiny part to see my true stretched length. My flat-ironed straight hair looked 1,000,000x better than my relaxed straight hair, but I still HATED it. I couldn't wait to get my curly coily hair back! Nappy hair is my addiction!

If I want to rock straight hair, I'd rather just throw on a wig. Even then, the only way I'd do straight hair is if it were multi-colored, I need to add funky colors to make my straight hair less boring and to stand out.

Can't say I'll never do a blowout at least. Once my hair gets to WSL and beyond, I'd like to do a blowout and see how big and busy it will look. Even then, I can get straight hair with a rollerset. But I know after a day I'll be ready to wash and get these naps back.:yep:

I dont because I really dont know how too, I attempted too this past weekend and my hair was very dry, i dont know what products to really use before I flat iron or how to combat my dry hair before its flat ironed. Also it's just alot of hair and i'm impatient, and its tiring lol.

The longer I go without using heat the more afraid I'm becoming of it. :perplexed My hair is flourishing, I'm retaining length, I LOVE my curls and waves and the thought of using heat and damaging all this progress I've made is scary to me. :ohwell: I will see how I feel once my personal goal of not using heat for one year arrives which will be at the end of August.

i dont like the way straight hair looks on me. everyone agrees that my hair looks good when straight but I look better with the napps. So that has something to do with their own nappy hair issues. ones that I cant be bothered with anymore

i haven't straightened since i started transitioning all those years ago. i mean, im not that curious about how my hair looks straightened. and i really dont like straight hair on me.

I've only been natural for a year now so I'm making sure my hair Is really healthy before I straighten. Also I'm bit scared of heat damage, and getting addicted to the flat Iron-so I haven't bought one. :ohwell:

I'm afraid of heat damage. I had it blown out yesterday so that I could get some cornrows put in for the summer and I was so tempted to straighten it. I think I will wait till the end of the summer.

I never straighten. I am afraid of losing my "texture". Also of doing any damage to my strands and ends due to heat and drying out my hair. I like my hair the way it is.

Honestly, after reading about and seeing what heat damage can do, I am petrified of pressing my hair. And I know that it doesn't happen to everyone and that it works for others, but with my luck, I will be one of the ones who has to BC twice because of hair that won't revert.

I prefer my own texture. I have been natural for 10 years and never once straightened my hair nor colored my hair. I LOVE my hair the way it is.

It is the fear of heat damage. I rarely do blow outs and when I do, I do it on low. I would be highly upset if all my hard work would disappear.

I use to be able to handle my hair, but now I can't be bothered, I have four flat irons. I even brought the maxiglide still paying it off and don't use it either. I like being natural and I like the look on me. I rather try new things with my natural hair then try getting it straight, Getting it straight is very difficult for me I just can't manage. I did press my hair out trying to impress my ex and it was long and pretty no sooner did we get to where we were going my hair was a horrible mess. Just blowing all over the place and completely out of control it didn't stay straight for one hour. I had to pull it all up in a clip and ruin my moment. I feel safer and more in control with my hair in its natural state. I can really make it come out the way I want and remain that way all day so no I don't bother with the heat. I would love to see my hair flat and straight for one day but I won't be doing it no time soon. Maybe Christmas. I think and hope it will be longer by then maybe it will stay straight - who knows.

It's not worth the time, or damage for me. If I straighten, the longest it will last is about 5 days, and it takes me too long to get it done, so its not worth it.

I fear heat damage and it totally dries out my hair. I actually prefer kinks, coils, and curls to straight hair. Plus I live in GA so the humidity will prevent any straight style from lasting more than 2 days, only for 1 day after a workout. I have found a great hair stylist who can trim my hair while wet so I don't even straighten it anymore to get it cut/dusted/trimmed.

I only straighten once a year. Why?

Because. . .

It's not healthy for my hair
I'm afraid of heat damage
It takes to long
I like my hair curly
And I can't be bothered.:look:

I never straighten b/c I have had straight hair for most of my life., why not enjoy it curly?

I love my curly fro, my cute curls and riglets (corkscrews) and I don't have the time.

My hair is so thick or dense or something that is takes toooo llloooonnnggg to straighten all this ish. It is only 5-7 inches long and not worth the time.

I really like the way I look with my curly hair.

Ok I'm OFFICALLY scared to straighten my hair this August :nono:. I wanted to come out of hidden w/ a bang :hide:(I wore wigs, braids etc for years) and my hair was going to make it's debut w/ a fresh press/ flat iron. I noticed from some of the remarks and brockstar that some of hair won't revert and can get stringy:wallbash:..... I have NO clue what to do.:perplexed

I prefer it in its curly state, I think it looks much better that way, lots of body and easily styled.

Straightening it is such a BIG HASSEL about one hours worth of effort for it to look decent about 15 minutes. If I had a trustworthy stylist I would have it straightened once or twice every 3 months or so.

A lot of pictures I take I have my hair straightened. But I prefer to wear my hair natural. One thing my dead-beat dad gave me was good genetics. I have a nice grade of hair but straightening my hair takes about 3 hours on a good day 1 1/2 hrs.

I have my ritual of
6 shampoos and conditioners
blow dry
hot comb
2 different flat irons
Presto straight hair for 2 weeks

I try to keep it straight for 2 weeks then natural for 2 weeks giving my hair time to relax. I do wish I could find a relaxer that would allow me to keep my curls.:wallbash:

My hair is growing only because of my conditioners. And Mizani H20 Rose water cream. The heat is killing me.

None of the above. I only allow my grandmother to press it (she's a wiz w/ the comb) and she does a "warm press". Since I don't cut or trim my hair (I'd only do this dry and fully straightened) and I don't really care how long it is, why bother? LOL...I tend to forget. I think it was last straightened about 5 years ago or sometime in the late 90s and my hair length and thickness amazed me, so I figure I'll ask her to do it again soon just to see.

As for being afraid of heat or anything like it, there's NO WAY I'd allow my hair to control me like that if I wanted a straight style. If I ever choose a relaxer, I'd get one in a sec. My hair is just hair to me, tho I do love it and take good care of it. I REFUSE to live as they did in the past 'press and curl' days of being afraid of any activity involving water or sweat. I REFUSE to live in the past in that way. How regressive, if you think about it.

Are there any naturals in here that never straighten? Why not? Lately I've been losing the desire to straighten my hair. It has always been my plan to straighten once in a while to do length checks but now I have no desire to do so. Any other ladies feel the same way.

I haven't thought about straightening(I like playing in my naps), but I have heard the horror and positive stories of those that did. If I ever use heat it will be with extreme caution because I do not want to start over.

I straighten my hair occasional (very rarely) and never had a problem. I got lazy 3 weeks ago and went to the hairdresser for the first time in years! I asked her to use a heat protector, she states that she never use one :nono:. I was like, "well, you will use one in my hair!" She asked the owner of the business and she gave her a bottle of heat protector which she used in my hair. I really regret going to her because my hair does not have the same body as it did before. Neither does my twists last - in no time they unravel, and now my hair feels way too soft - similar to when I blow dry it. I do not regret straightening my hair myself because I never had this problem before - my only regret is going to this stupid hairdresser.

Looking at the bigger picture though, it's only hair :lick: and I am not going to sweat too much over it. It happen already and all I can do is continue to take the best care of it; hopefully I can get back the texture I used to have. I do not have any straight parts but the hair feels weak and fragile. I will straighten again in the future because I never had a problem before but will never go to any hairdresser again.
