this was my loc style for September 2023 at 7 months locd. two strand twists with a bun on top. I just took the style down today when I got home from work. It really did last me a full month but I was not a fan of how short my hair looked.

made an appointment for a consultation with a new loctician. My plan is to go smaller without having to comb out my locs.

this new loctician is much closer to me (10 min walking distance) and more affordable price-wise.

the appointment is all set for Nov 18th at 1pm. I'll see what she says and report back.

I'm sticking to a no-buy for the rest of 2023.

removing my locs this weekend. I'm gonna probably have to get some cheap conditioner and a rat tail comb.

I'm trying to find a new loctician to start my first set of microlocs.

I'm definitely gonna get a good trim though. Make sure my hair is an even length. I booked a velvet steam treatment with a silk press and curls at my old salon that I used to go to before I locked my hair.

I most definitely will be sticking with the microlocs though as I feel like locs are easier to manage than loose natural hair for me. One salon charges $600 for microlocs and $150 for interlocking

Hello ladies, anyone with 3b/3c hair able to look? I’ve tried twist and braids for a week and it untangles? Thanks

I have 3c/4a. I got sisterlocks. I’ve been locked for two years. The interlocking seems to deter unraveling. However I did have to braid and band in the beginning to prevent unraveling when washing.

I started my loc journey in November and the main thing I'm concerned about is washing my hair without using a conditioner. After my first retwist I used leave in conditioners but I just feel so weird about not deep conditioning :'( - but then I'm also scared of getting build up. I was thinking of diluting my conditioner and using it that way but I'm still worried about build up. Any advice?

Do have a favorite brand and color? Do you do it yourself?
The first time I had it done I went to a professional. But I do know she lightened my hair and then used color from the Adore brand.

Each time after that I did it myself. Used colors from the Adore brand but not the same ones.

The last time I did it I used a different brand that I got from Sally's. Let me see if I can remember the name. I think it was the L'Oreal HiColor and Feria lines.

I have Splat color that I was thinking about doing for my 6 year anniversary this month but I'm not sure if I want to do that or go to a professional.

Hey guys, It's been years since I posted on LHCF, but I figured I would drop a quick one to say I need to change my profile picture! I decided to loc my hair 4 yrs ago! As soon as I remember how to post pictures here, and get the time, I'll come back and do the original questionnaire, and post a few start, middle journey, and current pics. My locs hit just above my bra strap, but when wet, its below. Aiming for mid back, at least, but wouldn't mind waist length, if I can cope. I've been going thru a few unknown autoimmune issues. Urticaria, scarring alopecia (not caused by the locs. I'm thinking it was a severe allergic reaction to something I put on my scalp, but I also have some thinning due to pcos/ hormonal imbalance- hot flashes are frying my scalp!), seborrheic dermatitis, joint inflammation, allergic reactions to a lot of sudden stuff, etc... Anyhoo, I got a lot of back reading thru this thread to do!

I interlock my hair, as well as my 2 boys. Mine is long overdue. I may wait a couple more weeks and recolor as well for Valentine's Day.
I’m very seriously considering doing my retie for the first time. I’m 15 months in with sister locks. My loctian has increased prices every new year. . As a former DIY relaxed head this is a new season relying on someone else to do my hair. The price increase isn’t helping.

I don't blame you! I have always done mine and theirs. I also started ours myself. If you want to transition to DIY reties, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube you can follow, both from content creators who have Sisterlocks and those who have microlocks.

My opinion would be to ask your consultant what pattern/point rotation she uses on your hair and then see if you can find specific turorials based on that information.

Otherwise, Queen Eleem has a great channel and I followed her since the beginning of her journey when she started her microlocks and I believe she is 4 years in now.

Other suggestions are Josette Bianca, Bindi Marc, and Feneti. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just a heads up, your consultant may be trained to try to retain you as a client. So, don't be surprised if she offers a discount or some type of fixed rate for you that won't increase, in exchange for your loyalty.

The other thing that may happen is she will steer you in the direction of taking the retightening class "to preserve the integrity of your locks" but if you decline, you'll be fine. You can do this!

Your goal is to save money, not spend more. DIY can certainly help achieve that. Maybe you can put the money you would save by doing your own reties into a rainy day or self-care fund and treat yourself to something nice.
