Hi, ladies!
I don't know if this has ever existed or not, but I thought it would be nice to have a place for those who have donated hair in the past to share their experiences during the process of growing out and donating hair, and for those who plan to donate to share their goals and get support and encouragement.

My goal is to donate 8" of hair to Pantene on Christmas 2015.
I would like to still have BSL hair after my donation, and plan to continue the growth and donation cycle while maintaining my own hair at BSL/MBL. In order to do so, I will have to grow until about HL before each donation.

Please come in if you have some great insight in growing the healthiest hair possible to long lengths in order to give this gift. Please share any anxieties, hurdles, or overcome setbacks along your hair. Also, if you are in the growing out phase, please come in for support and encouragement along your journey.

davisbr88, please don't donate your hair to Pantene/Procter & Gamble. They will not use it to benefit someone in need, regarding alopecia/cancer. They will test it. They have a hard time getting their hands on healthy afro-textured hair, so they will test it.

In Chicoro's Hair Products 101, she states, cosmetic companies pay thousands of dollars to get their hands on healthy afro-textured hair, because it is so rare.

Our hair is too hard to work with for them to make wigs etc. Locs of Love and other similar organizations sell and throw away our hair, depending on it's condition.

Please read this article and the comments.

In addition, koolkittychick, stated in another thread that she has a friend in the industry, who told her about the testing. Maybe, she can come and chime in.

I think it's wonderful that you and some of the other ladies on the board want to assist/help others that are in need. However, donating your hair is not the way, because they're not going to use it for that purpose.

P.S. If you just want to cut 8" off tag or PM Chicoro and find out how to get paid for your healthy locks.

It is very generous of you and all women who do donate their hair. Honestly, it would be better for you to sell your hair yourself and write a check to a cancer kid directly. The CEO of locks of love himself has been quoted saying that he would prefer money over hair. Anyways good luck on your journey. I know you will be happy to have helped.

Back in 2005 I donated to Locks of Love, it was an easy process. I just chopped off my hair and mailed it in. They mailed me back a card.

I was planning on donating to them again Froreal3

Now, I think I'm going to hold off. A friend of mine told me that when I am ready to cut I should just sell it LOL.....I didn't know that was a real thing!!

Thank you so much for the info! I didn't know that.
I will definitely look into selling the hair and donating the check instead.
Thanks so much!

Whimsy: can you share your experience growing and donating? I still want to do so (indirectly).

I'm not sure what to say.
Donating was a very simple process, just cut and mail it out.
Growing was just a matter of patience.

Did you PS at all to get to your length? How long did it take you to get to your pre-donation length?
How long was your hair after your donation?
Did you have any anxiety/back-and-forth before donating?
Do you have any regrets?

That's a lot... sorry...:lachen:
