I so wanna join. I started doing the protective styling, but i've been slacking on the moisturizing cause i'm always in a rush in the morning and i need to motivate myself at night. But anyway, what do we have to do?

Hello - it's my first post!

I would love to join in this challenge - exercise, water etc should be fine, as it's not too far off what I do already, but I don't really understand what I would do without heat.

I do a lot of sport, so wash my hair 3/4 times a week. It then gets blow-dried and flat-ironed (low-ish heat) each time, as I wear my hair straight. I've been lurking here for a while so have experimented with twist-outs, but they just look awful, and wouldn't be appropriate for work.

Any suggestions?

I'm in as well. I have been back and forth buying different products. So this will be a great way for me to track my progess!!!

How about buns and pontails? (braided on the end) I would suggest Wash and Go's but it's a lil to cold for that. HTH

I'm so in this! I'm not brand new, but I'm still wet behind the ears. This will be the perfect kick-off for the 2007 Head-2-Toe Challenge I'm in. I'll post my starting point once I get my "Progress-n-Inches" T-shirt (just to keep me honest :lachen:) Let's do it!

I am an advocate of many small victories that ultimately win a battle. They say that our hair will grow a minimum of 1/4" a month, so, by February, we should all be a minimum of an inch longer if we nurture our ends properly. :brainy:

Very doable, I think. Don't you? I think this should be the goal. A minimum of 1 inch growth by Valentine's Day. What do you think?

Mrs Kraft you can make that easy! I still have to make this husband of mine get on the floor with a sharpie and make me a shirt. lol Might as well put him to work on it. lol.

Im In! I've been waiting for someone to start this! I've been on here for a month and my hair has grown! I just posted one month progress pics. I need to keep on taking my vitamins. I just bought my MTG, it smells like feces' first cousin but since I've heard so many good things I'm going to keep using it. Good luck everyone!

I have a white cami he can get to work on.
He just looked at me and said.....Not Tonight!
Okay....Yeah.....I will remember that SAME answer later on.

It's not too late to join! I didn't come up with an official "due date" or anything, LOL.

The challenge is open to newbies like me from October until Valentine's Day 2007 (that's an easy date to remember:love: ). Feel free to post updates or before/after pics as often as you like. The rules are copied below, from my earlier post:

**********

Our "official" newbie challenge rules will be as follows::user:

1. No direct heat! Put those flatirons away! Use of a bonnet or hood dryer is allowed.

2. Moisture, moisture, and MORE moisture! Be sure to moisturize your ends and the rest of your hair AT LEAST once a day. Remember, a good moisturizer will list water as the first ingredient (basically, grease is NOT a moisturizer, LOL). And don't forget to seal in your moisturizer with an oil.

3. Protective styling - maintain your ends. If possible, wear protective styles as much as you can. Buns, twists, ponies (real or phony), braids, braidouts, twistouts, etc. are your FRIEND!

4. If you relax your hair, try to stretch for one week past your usual touch up time. Try to stretch even longer if you think you can, but keep in mind that you will have to really take care of your hair once you have a mix of new growth and relaxed ends.

5. Drink AT LEAST six cups (48 ounces) of water each day. If you don't like water, try flavoring it with some Crystal Light drink mix. Hydration is important for your entire body, not just your hair.

6. Step up your physical activity. If you're not already exercising, an easy way to get started is to take a 30 minute walk every day. You can break it up into segments (walk in the AM, walk at lunch, walk after dinner). Just get moving! And find an activity that you like....if you hate running, PLEASE don't go out and try to train for a marathon! Find a "workout buddy" if you think that will help. We need to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on 5 or more days of the week. Moderate activity = activity that makes your heart rate go up and causes light-moderate sweating.

7. Most Important: Be positive! We're new to this board, so we're still learning how to take care of our hair. Don't set your goals too high. Give it time. Don't obsess over the length of your hair. Just try to get it HEALTHY!!:)

I'm really happy that this thread has generated a positive response. Let's keep it going, ladies, and see what a few months of healthy living can do for us...and our hair!

Be Blessed!

OK fellow newbies, here's the update on the Newbie Challenge. Your mission, should you choose to accept it :D, will be to stay on this healthy hair/body challenge until Valentine's Day 2007. I think 4 months is a good jumping off point.

Every month, I will post a new thread for you to share your progress. You can use this thread to post before/after pics and such. And be sure to put this in your signature, to remind yourself of the challenge. We need to represent!!:

I was going to suggest this. Training for a 1/2 marathon or marathon is the quickest way to a healthier body. I know that might be pushin it for some but think about it, you follow a training log for 12 weeks working up towards a goal (marathon). You have to walk or run almost every day or every other day in order to be in shape for the marathon. I never thought in a million years I would even let the word marathon roll off my tongue but I did it in April and it was the best thing for my body and my overall health. When it comes to working out I suggest having a goal in mind that u can work towards and that will give u motativation to get up and get started. Remember a healthier body equals a healthier head of hair.

Oooops, I sure did! I'm sorry, I just cut & pasted those goals from one of my original posts.

But, ladies, we are ALL going to try to grow at least 1" of healthy hair by 2/14/07! I know we can do it!

I'm in. I'm trying to find a very simple regimen for myself...so far I'm washing and deep conditioning on a weekly basis and experimenting with some protective hairstyles and different products.

Another goal that I have is to gain at least 6-11 lbs this winter. After I had my baby, I went a little overboard with the dieting, so I need to start focusing on nutrition more.

Count me in!
I need to do something with this 48-year-old head of hair that is naturally thin and aging (grays sprouting everywhere!) Not that my hair is not healthy, but want to make it as luxurious as it can possibly be! Currently my hair is relaxed and when put in 6-7 braids are 7-10" long each and the diameter of a pencil!

Help me my sistas! Anyone out there with a similar challenge?

Taking Oil of Olay Vitamins, MSM, Vitamin C, Omega-3 & Oil of Evening Primrose.

I didn't do too hot last week w/the exercise -- I worked out only 2 times last week! I go through this sometimes, where I am gung-ho for a while and then I just kind of. . . chill. Well it's a new day, and I am going to go work out TODAY! I am doing fairly good w/the water, and moisturizing the ends.
