Let's Get To Know One Another

When I graduate HS in 2010, I hope to be WSL or very close.

I love LHCF very much, and even though I didn't want to move down south at first, I'm glad I did because if I hadn't I wouldn't have found y'all.

You go girl! You are in high school and taking great care of your hair. That is awesome. When I was your age I was tearing my hair up from root to tip. I am so impressed by you!!!:clapping:

Hi I'm Curvycurly 78! I started lurking in '05 but didn't join 'til August '06. My hair was natural and not quite shoulder length; now it is texlaxed (relaxed imo) and nearing bra strap (hope to be full bra strap by my bday in December). Not only did I start out with hair not quite the way I wanted it, but I had a body that was the same way. I now weigh 40 lbs less than I did when I joined :yep:This board is helpful in so many ways.

I was born and raised in the Cleveland area (still here unfortunately). I have a full time job, go to school full time (criminology major, heading to law school after that) and I have 3 children.

I obviously enjoy talking hair, working out, reading and cars (yes, I love cars :look:)

Hello All, I am Lissa

I lurked LHCF for most of 2006 and joined at the end of the year. I am orginially from New York and have lived in Atlanta since 1996. I am a part time college student studying Accounting (I so looking forward to graduating next year!!!!). I am single with no kids but I am the Best Auntie in the world or so I am told. Since being a part of the LHCF, my hair has grown back and is so much healthier and thicker than I ever imagine to be. I am a little longer than shoulder length (not quite APL) and my layers are slowing but surely growing out. I have learned so much on this website and really enjoy logging in everyday.

I agree with Manushka, I am glad to see so many high schoolers here. :yep:

Curvycurly78, healthier and longer hair, as well as a healthier body. Well do the damn thing!

Mizzdebbi, Howard...I am jealous...I have always wanted to attend an HBCU. Good luck!

JaszG, I just went to Tuscaloosa this weekend. How far is Munford from there? Glad to have ya.

Manushka, what up girl? I grew up in South Florida. And I love your name. Are you Haitian or French, 'cause that is a popular name in that community?

Sunshine_Baby, Congrats on the stretch!!!! :clapping: I know how hard that can be. I would love to adopt you! :hug2: I will meet you in PM land for the rest of the details.

LoverofLife, when I hopped on the healthy hair wagon, my hair had clear spots too. It was tragic. I am a fotki addict, so get to it, girl!!!!

Nice thread!

I'm lexi..a law student. I'm a bit of a chronic lurker as you can tell from my limited # of posts  But I just joined the Megatek challenge so those of you doing that should see me a bit more. :yep:

When I started lurking back in feb my hair was SL but disgustingly broken off and brittle. Over the next few months taking care of it with all of your advice my hair overall became much healthier and I grew it out to past CBL. Currently back down to NL/just grazing SL after a MUCH needed BC in june to get rid of ratty ends and am now officially IN LOVE with my hair (thick, shiny, soft and bouncy, woohoo!. :drunk:)

FYI as of now I only have about two pics in my fotki which is why its locked but I'll be putting up a personal avatar soon enough...:yep:

oh, and in case you couldn't tell, I'm also addicted to smilies!

Hello I'm Amani. Lurked for a while and then joined.(DH surprised me, he paid) I was born and raised in NY. I have family in AL, and NC. August 10 will be my 14th year anniversary to my high school sweetheart and best friend. We have four children 15 1/2 girl, 13 boy, 11 girl, 10 boy. My days are hectic. We are business owners, but have separate passions. DH is a computer network engineer. I love social work especially with Autistic children. We also home school our children all year round:grin: Well we do take vacations or short breaks when we like.:yep: I have armpit length hair that I would like to grow longer, but my main reason for joining is my youngest daughter has thick frizzy WL hair. All of the information that I have received from you ladies have helped my tremendously. I thank you. Oh, I don't have a foki because I am Muslim and choose not to show my hair. :drunk: Thank you again you are all GREAT!

Hi,

I'm Galadriel, and I definitely co-sign with the other ladies who said they're happy to have found LHCF!!!!
I'm from Los Angeles and I'm an English teacher. I have two kids (girl 2, boy 6 months) and DH is a cartoon animator.
I am an unrepentant shopaholic, and my new hobby and passion is haircare. I've also recently gotten into cooking, healthy eating, and recipes, etc.
I found LHCF in Jan. '07 after I went to a hairstylist who cut my near-APL hair up to my neck and gave me a bad relaxer. I was desperate to repair my hair and determined to take good care of it. When I came across LHCF I lurked for a while and took notes, finally joined...and here I am :yep:.

GOOD THREAD!!!
Hi all!
I am Harmony0221.
Born and raised in New Jersey with a lot o southern roots! I am a 21yr old college student and my major is Business Administration. No children but a loving and supportive S/O. I found LHCF a year ago next month! :yay:I have been natural for 4years and almost BSL (in the back) and APL in front. The Longest my hair has ever been!
:lachen: and :yay: are my favorite smiles

Hi

I'm Jamaicalovely or JL or Karen. Depending on what mood I'm in. :perplexed

I'm originally from Philly and currently reside in Atlanta (SWATS). I am married with no kids and a cat (Cleo).

I started lurking in Nov 07 and joined in Feb 08. My hair was above EL back then and now I'm creeping to NL. I expect to be SL by December with my new BFF - Megatek.

I am in weaves constantly and love it!

I wish I had found LHCF when I use to do travel while working in consulting a year ago.

My friends and I started an event decor business a month ago, so I may limit my time here on the board soon. Ok, so I'm Jamaican and gotta have "tree jobs"...my third gig is as a mystery shopper.

Nice to meet you ladies!

Gaw, there is so many people I want to quote.
But anywho to all the LHCF'ers in highschool, great job! They started even earlier than I did. (I started taking my hair seriously senior year)
I kinda thought I was the only teen on LHCF (I'm 19)
I'm not special anymore!
Maybe we can make a support group?????
yeah LadyEsquire I need to get the ball rolling again, I can't let these other folk beat me they have been on for a shorter time and their hair is already so long and luscious and full.
I mean business now.:whip:
We could ask questions here right?
What is a good product to use if you have chronic dry hair?:lachen:
I'm serious :look:
ETA: More about me I'm a proud West Indian, St.Lucia standup! And I am addicted to mangoes, and my mom has two mangoe trees in her backyard. I ate one of the fruits yesterday, it was good. (:

Oh wow LadyEsquire, this is an awesome thread:yep:, you are a doll. I am really enjoying reading about all of you beautiful ladies, I'll be back with my intro in a bit.

Great thread!!

Hello JamaicanLovely I'm a fellow Jamaican as well . How long do you keep your weaves in? I want to get one soon ( my first) in the fall and wanted to know how long you keep them in.

You go girl! You are in high school and taking great care of your hair. That is awesome. When I was your age I was tearing my hair up from root to tip. I am so impressed by you!!!:clapping:

Seriously! Good for you Kelly. I mean I'm not *that* much older than you (24 :look:) but when it comes to learning good hair care, the earlier the better! Shoot, I coulda had hair down to my butt by now if I started when you did! :ohwell::lachen:

PhoEnixX, what up girl? I wanted to join Air Force Jag years back, but could not coordinate things with DH. Your X-Ray gig ain't everyone, so I can understand changing careers. Peepee and poopoo, gotta have a stomach for all of that. DH is an Accountant, so I know the red tape involved with obtaining the CPA. Good luck, girl. You're gonna get paid!

:wavey:
Thank you!
Lord knows it ain't for everybody but some ppl don't believe in branching out. I'll take a chance....if there's a shot at something bigger.
I'ma get paid, you said? That's what I keep telling myself...every single day. From classes to running around in ROTC. There is reason why I'm putting myself through this.

" Ok, so I'm Jamaican and gotta have "tree jobs"...my third gig is as a mystery shopper. "

LOL@ 'tree jobs'....I want to be a mystery shopper--is it as easy as they say it is...?

We could ask questions here right?
What is a good product to use if you have chronic dry hair?:lachen:
I'm serious :look:

Dry hair?
Do you mean moisturizing conditioners and shampoos?
Well I've used:
  • Elucence MB and the shampoo
  • Nexxus Therapee Humectress
  • Proclaim Aloe and Shea butter
  • Keracare Humecto
I'm with Elucence right now.
I have medium thick hair. I'm a 3c/4a/4b (i think) or something like that... :look: Man, all I know is that Lois hairtype thingy said I had O strands. So I'm going with it.
Anyway these products worked well for MY hair.
I've heard that Aubrey Organics and Kenra I believe are good as well. I have yet to try it. I'm trying to work through the stuff I have. THere are some 'best conditioner' best shampoos out there but I don't remember where I stuck them.

This LHCF link talks about hair moisturizers. Mostly oils if you're into kitchen alchemy.

Hey everyone-

I'm natstar
I've been on LHCF for 3 years
I made (what I consider) major progress in the 1st year but afterwards my growth seems to be at a stand still @ chin length (@ front) to APL (@ back). i'm still gonna keep practicing healthy habits tho.
Anywho-I'm a student and when I have free time I love to read novels, dance, workout, and cook.
My new interest is in makeup application. I love youtube and the makeup forum here to give me tips.

*Stands up with big cheesy grin on face* Hello Every body! I'm Muffin. When I started my hair-care journey I had hair that was a little past shoulder length and that was in very bad condition from grooming it improperly, not DC'ing, shampooing excessively, and just general abuse. I haven't been natural since I was a little girl, but I always had long-ish hair (probably apl or almost apl). It wasn't until I wasn't until I turned almost 19 that I started taking an interest in caring for my hair. This was because I let a person that I trusted "trim" my hair and they ended up cutting it to earlobe length. My hair was in very bad condition. Probably April of '06 I started my hair journey at around shoulder length and as of right now I'll be making BSL by September '08. A lot of things have helped me during this period of time to make my hair healthier and stronger. I joined a variety of different hair forums but I realized that most of their information was coming from this one, so I ultimately decided to stop lurking and join and I'm glad I did. Also this book called the Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey taught me that sulfates are damaging to the hair and it's best not to use them, and if you're going to use them it's best to dilute your shampoo or do a pre-poo before you shampoo. Some great tips that I've learned is to not forget to condition your hair every time you wash it and DC your hair at least once every week and use a leave-in, use wide-toothed combs to groom your hair, stretch your relaxers so that you won't over-process your hair, and seal in the moisture from when you condition your hair with a natural oil. My ultimate goal for my hair is to be WL, and I definitely feel that I will reach my goal. Some other things that have helped me were the youtube videos of AA women with relaxed and natural hair that have grown their hair long and show you their routines. Keeping an online photo journal has also helped to keep me motivated during the growing process. The nice comments let you know that you're headed in the right direction. Well, I guess that's all for now. If I go on any longer I'll be writing a book,.

I'm nappysunflowers (Nic) and I have been lurking for...ever. I joined because I was getting so much from the site, it didn't seem right to keep lurking. .
About myself:

-I'm from Jersey, still live here, planning to move in the next 3 years
-Single, no kids, one dog pushing 14 years old
-Became a doc in 2006. Still in residency. Dreading working for Ms. Sallie (mae that is)
-I do a lot of volunteering, between the outreach, the soup kitchen, the co-op, working towards becoming an EMT, I can't sit still.
-Been a vegetarian fully for a couple years. I chew B12 like Skittles but it's worth it.
-Oh, my hair...I am 4a and I am at shoulder length (natural). My goal is for it not to break off. Length wise, I'll be happy at arm-pit. Will start wearing phony ponies come Labor Day and hide everything until Easter.
-I love music, and try to go to as many concerts as I can afford.
-I want to get a helicopter pilot's license, I flew one in high school and I loved it...
Peace...

I don't really have a favorite smiley. I seem to use this one a lot::wallbash:
But it seems everyone loves the manic dancing banana::yay:

Hi..........errrbody! I'm mshottienelson. I live in San Diego, California. I'm married, have two children, trying for another. I work full time and I'm still working on my 10 yr plan to get a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice...:lachen: but I digress. I stumbled upon LHCF early this year and joined about a month later. I wish I'd found this place sooner too.

I recently bc'd after being relaxed almost 2/3 of my life. I had longer hair as a child and as an adult, I've always been able to get to shoulder length and a little longer but not APL (not since I was a kid). So I know my hair does grow (although I used to believe otherwise); I am now working on retaining it.

OMG, there are so many smart and wonderful ladies on this board! you all are like sisters to me!

Hello everyone,I'm onyxdreams
I currently living in Floriad but was raised in NYC.
I'm married with semi-grown kids,lol
I'm a Special Education Teacher,currently on vacation, whooooo:grin:
I'm back to work in two weeks.
my hair is healthy thinks to alot of the information I have gathered from this awesom site.I have lurked for a about a year before joining.
My current goals are to keep my hair healthy, thick and long.

Okay, I'm back.

I'm Hopeful. I joined LHCF 3 1/2 years ago. I was relaxed at the time and my hair was severely damaged. A few months after joining, I bc'd, 6 months after that I relaxed, about 9 months later I bc'd again, and most recently (like last weekend) (and after being natural for 2 years and 4 months) I texturized.

I am so grateful for LHCF. Ever since I was 13 years old and after getting my 1st relaxer, I was never able to achieve two things: grow my nape out or get to shoulder length, it would make it to neck length, then break:wallbash:. Now I am shoulder length, working my way to APL and my nape is about 8 inches long and thriving. I have never been this pleased and happy with my hair:woot:.

I am a SAHM, been married to the same black man for 21 years, and we have two daughters who are 8 and 16. We have two cute dogs that we love. My family and I live in Northern California but most of my relatives live in the midwest (I miss them). I have a bachelor's degree in Journalism.
