Happy Birthday, nfynit_812!!! Your birthday is two days after mine... fellow Leo!!! Welcome to the braid bandwagon!!! With proper care, your hair should thrive with the braids. I'm definitely going to try and go for the year long braid-a-thon.

Here's a link with helpful tips on growing the hair with braids. The difference is that I won't be relaxing in between braiding until I reach the end of the year long braid-a-thon.

shout!!! Happy belated birthday to you! You and my fiance share the same birthday...GO LEOS, GO LEOS!!!!!!!!!

I haven't had a perm since November '03, and to 'guess-timate', I think my new growth is at least 3-4 inches long. What I'm noticing with getting cornrows and boxbraids, that my new growth will curl and my 1 week old braids look like I had them in for 6 weeks
mad.gif
! I was even thinking about putting in a kiddie perm just to stretch out the new growth a lil...
spank.gif
I know, I know! And I plan to keep my hair braided until next June...how do I combat the 'curliness' while braided up?
Thanx for the link

Hey, Gurl!
If the cornrows work for you, then stick with them.
smile.gif
The key is that the hair is not being manipulated. This should work just as well.

weird.gif

As for the "curling up" part. Isn't your hair pulled straight when applying the braids so that the extension is close to your scalp?
confused.gif
And please, NO KIDDIE PERMS!!!

I have two textures...the curly, crazy new growth and the relaxed hair. It doesn't matter if I flat iron my new growth or blow it out before I get it braided, the new growth will curl up and my hair looks fuzzy

Yes girl, next year August, we will be swinging our beautiful manes in the wind

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will stay away from the 'creamy crack' until next year!!

Creamy Crack !! Yall gonna get me fired from work for loud outbursts of laughter but I know what u mean. I have had my braids in close to 3 months and I am dying to take them out. I recently set a goal for myself in terms of keeping them in but using a "pregnancy guide". (let me find my email - I need a good laugh!)
smile.gif

Per my earlier post, this is the crazy email I sent to my friends regarding my hair goals
wink.gif
They were laughing at first but when you think about it, it's not such bad idea. Any takers??
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
BIRTH OF HAIR???

Thinking about all these showers and house warmings going on....I figured hey, why not!

This morning I had this idea!! Hair can be reborn and I am pregnant - with hair that is.

I figured I have had my braids in for almost 3 months (that's the first trimester). I will go through the 2nd and 3rd trimester and my "baby" hair will be born early March.

At that point I can have can a "shower" and receive new healthy hair products for my "new hair". I will be registered at the local beauty supply stores and various websites.

I can have godparents who will "watch" over my hair and take of her as needed (salon buddy, wash and set doer
smile.gif
and make sure I don't neglect it in any way

whatchall think of that?
smile.gif
(or is that just an excuse to get new and free products??
wink.gif
or am I a loon?

Hey, Girl!!! Looks like we'll both be doing this thing!!! I am on a serious mission. I didn't measure my hair before to get the current length, but you can get an idea by looking at my last relaxer pics taken April 18th. We'll periodically update, even though there probably won't be much to talk about as you just put your hair in braids and just "go". What sort of products do you intend to use? Did you braid it yourself? How often will you do your braids?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I braided it myself, but it's without extensions. I plan on shampooing, conditioning, and redoing them every two weeks. In between shampoos, I'll probably rinse or spritz with water & apply an oil to the hair (either coconut or safflower). For the scalp only, I plan to use Sulfur-8 after each shampoo. This will be until I can find something that works just as good & smells better.

This sounds like a plan. I just reviewed my "Plaits" video so I can gear up to braid my hair myself. Well, at least that's the plan!

I see that you're transitioning. The texturizing didn't work out for you or was it the choice of hairdressers? How long do you plan to do the braids? I know you're on Robin's site.... I won't be relaxing in between my braid sessions. If I'm brave enough, I may take pics after each braid take down.... Not sure, as long as I don't look like Buckwheat! I'll relax at the end of the year.... God willing that should put me at at least brastrap....
smile.gif

i haven't bellydanced in soooooooo long. I kinda taught myself by watching real bellydancers and i had an instructional video. I was consistent with it, but I haven't done it in a while. I'm going to take a few classes and i'm thinking about teaching it at my school when spring comes. they are looking for fitness dance instructors!
