Here is a picture of my braids, I am trying to stick with the hairladies braid routine. So far so good. What does 911 leave-in do for the hair?

[/ QUOTE ]

Very nice, Netta!

Are they heavy? I was happy that mine didn't feel heavy. I think the 911 is supposed to strengthen the hair... I haven't got a bottle in front of me, but I've seen it in the Beauty Supply stores.

By the way, I am joining this braid regimen. I just learned how to do my own braids!

I have them in for two weeks now. I will probably take them down in another week and reapply them

.

Isn't it wonderful when you can do your own braids? I did mine twice, but now that I'm in my last trimester of pregnancy, it is quite uncomfortable to position my body to get all around my head.

Girl, I know you wouldn't want to pregnant again just now!!! Wouldn't that be shocking???
shocked.gif
Or would it have been the manner in which you found out that shocked you???

I'm fine, baby's fine... I'm just in the stage where I am ready to be back to my regular size... my tummy is huge and gets in the way sometimes!!!

Nope they're not heavy, later on down the line I might get them cut though. I had some braids in the past that were actually thicker than these, but they drove me insane cause they were just too heavy, I mean I had neck aches. ANYHOW I just got finished washing my braids with Jasons Sea Kelp and spraying them with Infusium, 911 leave-in (for extra dry hair) and curl spray. I don't think I'll spray anything else in there (accept surge on the temples) until after my next wash, unless of course I need to. With braids the "hairlady" advises that you take it easy on products to avoid alot of build-up at the base of the braid. I also think I will be washing every three to seven days.

I just made my braid appt for this Friday February 20th at 5:30pm. So Black and Gold Kankelon is the best synthetic hair for braiding? Also, I have a red adore rinse right now
that hasn't completely washed out. I place to do a Sienna Brown rinse to help get a color to match the braids. Would this be ok right before I get braids?

[/ QUOTE ]
Hey, Jen Jen!
I don't think you have to get the actual brand. I buy whatever kanekelon hair the beauty supply sells. I don't think a rinse would affect your hair adversely, but do you really think it's necessary? I don't rinse my hair and still use different colors... (peep my album), but I think that's just a personal choice.

Oh yeah, I just took my braids out Sunday will be putting them back in come this Saturday night... God willing!

[/ QUOTE ]
I've done blonde braids with my natural dark color- no biggie!

Thanks AJD and mermaid.

I think I will bypass the rinse before getting braids. The red isn't as prominent as it was a few weeks ago, so there shouldn't be a problem. I think I'll go with brown #2 and light brown...#4 I think. I hope that will look ok. I'll be picking up the synthetic hair tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Diva, I am also a member of Yahoos blackhairandbody, your hair pictures are great and I will be doing a braid regimen for the next year and a half starting this weekend.

I am braiding my hair this weekend. Here are my questions...

1. can I braid and NOT use a lot of hair? Will this elevate the heavy braided hair look?

2. I have highlights, is it neccesary for me to get hair that matches both my hair and highlights?

Good luck on your braid regimen for the next year and a half!!! We're here if you need us. I can't wait to see how much growth you get after that time period. Have them carefully put in and then give them TLC. Some people put 'em in and "forget" that they still have to take care of the hair within the braid!!!

I don't see why not. As long as my braids were, they weren't heavy. I think that it is important that the braider doesn't put too much hair onto the hair that's being braided. As I remember it from the growafrohairlong.com video, to start the braid off, the synthetic hair is folded in half so that they represent two strands with your hair being the third. Your "strand" and each of the other two strands should be about the same size. I hope that makes sense. Bottom line, tell your braider to use less hair so your braids won't be heavy.

2. I have highlights, is it neccesary for me to get hair that matches both my hair and highlights?
Naw! Pick a color that compliments either of the colors and use that.

I'm new to the forum and iwould love to join. I just took my braids out the other day I'm scheduled to go back in a week.

Aren't you supposed to wash your hair when you have braid?. I got my hair braided and the person told me don't wash my hair for two weeks. I always wash my hair once per week so I know I'd be in trouble if I waited. Am i wrong?

Welcome to the forum, Charlene! Looks like I may be postponing my braids until next week as well

Sorry, Charlene. I forgot to answer. In my opinion, I feel that I still have to wash my hair even with braids. I wash once a week at least. In the summer it was a little more frequent, usually in the form of a conditioning wash, as the summer heat helped the hair to dry a lot quicker. Hope this helps.

OK, ladies....I got my braids last night and I have to learn to do my own braids because I'm never satisfied when someone else does them. She did them too tight and it wasn't the exact style I wanted, but I'll rock them for a while
look.gif
.

Anyway...here's my tentative regimen.

Spray 2x a day with African Royale Braid Spray and spritz lightly with oil (ORS Nature's Shine) to seal in moisture. I'll also be massaging my scalp and especially the hair line with oil and place a warm towel on the hair line (just until some of the tightness is relieved).

Once a week I will wash with diluted shampoo (Dax Vegetable Oil Shampoo). I'm thinking about bypassing conditioner and just using a liquid leave-in. What do you guys think?

I won't be rinsing out the shampoo under the shower, but instead using a pitcher to run water over my hair until the shampoo is all gone. (I'll be doing this to control the frizzes from the pressure of the shower head.)

It's a pretty simple regimen. Did I forget anything???

Also, I using Toyokalon (sp?) hair. It was much smoother than the Kankelon...since I have cornrows.

I'm going to try to do my own individual braids next time using the Kankelon hair.

I'm going to keep these for 5-6 weeks max.

O.K. I got my braids today beause I can't get them done on the 23rd. My regime for braids is VERY simple and works stupendoulsy well for me. I don't put any artificial products in my hair only almond oil, flaxseed oil, or wheat germ oil. I wash once a week and condition with Aubrey Organics products. I tie my wrap my braids every night with a silk scarf. My homemade remedy for frizz is to lightly mist the braids with water -not too much!!-, and generously apply oil to the braids and wrap with a scarf- say over night or every night. great to apply right before going to sleep. Works like a charm for me I hopes it helps someone else. Just be careful of product build up in your hair when you have braids because even thought you wash them, there are some hard to reach spots under the braids.

I just got my weave/braids yesterday so im definetely now finally on board with the braid regimen. If I get a good regime that works for me I think this may be a staple hair style.

(well let me do a search on how to take care of a weave/braids)

I am down for this regime..I am already in the Stinky challenge, the Surge challenge this is my final challenge...9 inches or bust!

Hi guys,

I would love to join the braid regimen challenge but I just took out my braids lastweek. However I do plan to braid my hair after 2 months. Till then I will keep reviewing everyones results.on how it is going with everyone. I hope by then u guys will be starting a new challenge and I can join. Happy growing!!!

unfortunately I couldnt last the whole two months...my roots were growing in really fast and it got to the point where the hair was beginning to tangle and string up, plus my parts werent visible. So I went the safe route and just removed them. I will be getting braids again sometime next month and will be following the same regimen

I'm late on this one but I had my hair cornrowed 2 weeks ago since I was going on vacation. I plan to take them out soon, my question is: How do you all wash your hair when it is in braids, especially the cornrows since they get messed up fast. Also how long do you wait before you wash them the first time?
confused.gif

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I wash my hair at least every other day... on the weekends I use diluted shampoo, but for the most part I do conditioning washes with diluted conditioner. I use Kanekalon hair, so it doesn't fall out or anything.

I am now back into my braid regimen with a vengeance. The last time I took out my braids, I got a relaxer and thus didn't put in any braids until two months had passed and I had a good amount of new growth. July 15th I got braids and will do a braid-a-thon for one year... meaning take out the braids, do a protein deep conditioning treatment and then put braids back in... no relaxing in between. I will post my braid regimen in a moment.
smile.gif
This braid-a-thon will ensure I will reach brastrap or longer by next year this time. It is also so much easier to deal with my hair... moisturize it and leave it alone. I LOVE it!!!
love.gif

Ok, here's my braid regimen:

Wash with diluted Pantene Relaxed and Naturals shampoo or Keracare Hydrating/Detangling shampoo

Condition with diluted Pantene Relaxed and Naturals Conditioner or Keracare Humecto

Use a leave-in conditioner that consists of a 50/50 mix of Infusium's Pro-Vitamin Leave-In Hair Treatment in Original (for relaxed, permed, or color treated hair)and Moisturizing(for normal to dry hair)Formulas.

Spray scalp with Surge Revitalizer 14

Spray entire hair shaft with S-Curl for Moisture

Spray entire hair shaft with Wondergro Shea Butter Mega Moisture Protein Complex Fine Mist Hair & Body Oil to seal in moisture

As far as my supplementation goes, continue with:
2x day Designer whey protein shake (2 scoops each shake has 36gm of protein, so total protein would be 72gms)

2+ liters of water a day... I drink well over 2 liter, especially since I'm breastfeeding

GNC Women's Ultra Mega (2 pills a day)
Freeda Biotin 10,000mg
Freeda Super Dec B-100 B complex
Flaxseed oil 1000mg
Evening Primrose oil 1000mg

That's it.... I paid to have my braids done the last time as I couldn't fathom doing them myself again now that I have the baby distracting me, but I'm considering doing the next set of braids myself... I can control the tension and tightness of the braids that way. The few times I did it, I used Robin's hair braiding video. It really helped!!!

I like that braid-a-thon idea. I just braided my hair last night, and will continue with this until next summer. Maybe I'll reach my goal by Dec. '05.

wow, thats QUITE a regimen!!! i may need to use this for when i get mine done too!!!

how old is the little one, now??
~T~

Count me in!!!! I got my hair braided on 8/5 in boxbraids. I'm planning to keep getting braids until June 2005. I want to have beautiful hair like everyone on this board!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, Girl!!! Looks like we'll both be doing this thing!!! I am on a serious mission. I didn't measure my hair before to get the current length, but you can get an idea by looking at my last relaxer pics taken April 18th. We'll periodically update, even though there probably won't be much to talk about as you just put your hair in braids and just "go". What sort of products do you intend to use? Did you braid it yourself? How often will you do your braids?
