How much time will it take for me to wash my own hair for at least 2 times per week? I am tired of these daggon hair stylists getting money from me and not giving me the exact style that I want. I just got a ponytail and I swear the pins are sticking directly into my skull. Would my hair benefit from me washing my own hair more? For people who have acheived or gotten close to bra strap length, how often do you wash my hair? Does anyone even go to a salon? Quick responses would be great!

Hi. Lemme get this straight... you got a ponytail and your stylist had to add hairpins? Perhaps she does it differently than the traditional ponytail, I dunno.. but to answer your hair about the washing, I wash my hair about every other week. I go to the salon (or try to when the money'$ right) every 2 weeks. Before I came here, I'd wait a whole 2 weeks to pass without washing-- until it was time for me to get it done again. Even though I wash more i believe my hair is just as healthy (albeit cleaner) as it was before I joined LHCF. Personally speaking, I don't have the time or energy to wash my hair twice a week, but alot of the ladies on this board do just that. My hair is bra-strap length. I go to the salon but my hairdresser is the best in the world. If she wasn't I'd probably be alot more self-sufficient (i.e. putting my own relaxers in) like some others here.

I go to the hair stylist every six weeks and I would wash my hair every four weeks. I was just lazy and didn't like washing my hair. After joining LHCF, I do wash my hair once a week. I find thats it's easier to wash your hair in the shower and do your deep conditioning once you get out of the shower.

I wash my own hair at least once a week, but I am considered short or mid length.

The washing and conditioning doesn't take too long, it is the styling and drying. I used to roller set and then wrap but that takes too long and I think that all of the manipulation (I don't get a good home set unless I use yellow rollers) was thinning my ends and leading to more breakage. Now I just shampoo, deep condition, apply leave-ins, setting lotion, and wet wrap. Dry under bonnet dryer for about 30-45 min (not completely dry) Wrap with scarf and go to bed. I flat iron the morning after. If I want extra curls I put in a couple of rollers at night and take them out in the morning. So far my hair and ends are liking this better.

I try to only use the flat iron once a week. (so far so good)
Moisturize ends and edges nightly and wrap loosely with a comb.

If you want to do your own hair and your pressed for time and dont want to rollerset you can try this
wash and condition your hair
Let your hair air dry about 50%. You can fully air dry your hair if you choose to. After you hair have finished airdrying for the time alloted, Blowdry your hair using warm air. When you blowdry try not hold the blowdyer in the same place for long periods of time. Just keep it moving. Then you can either roll your hair up (with satin rollers) and put a satin bonnet on and go to sleep or you can flat iron your hair and wrap it. It all depends on how much heat you can use.
Make sure you use heat protectant.
Make sure you moisturize your hair daily.
Try not to pull you hair.

and you can wash your hair as many time as you want to. It just depends on your hair.
Some people on this board wash daily, some people wash it weekly or biweekly with success. So find what works for you and sitck to it.
But I agree with the previous posters who said the cleaner the hair the healther it is.
Personally I am tired of giving money to hairdressers who mess up my hair. I am learning to do my hair on my own. It takes time and patience

Happy hair growing.

Well being a broke student gave me no other options than to learn to do my own hair. I'm about 1-2 inches away from bra length and I wash my hair about 2-3 times a week. I do 2 co-washes a week with a Dominican product (Miss Key 10 en 1 plus) and I shampoo once a week with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner followed by a light conditioner. I ALWayS wash my hair in SECTIONS and I detangle with a Jilbere shower comb, I rinse my hair and apply a leave-in such as Giovanni and I style as usual. When I first started taking care of my hair it took awhile to get the wash thing down but now I have it down to a science and it takes about 45 minutes (including deep treatment).
