That is what one of the guards said to me this morning. At my job we have guards in the lobby area who check our badges as we come in and so forth. I always greet them and go my way. As I was walking pass this one guard, he called me back and said "you know when i mentioned about your "wig", I didn't mean it like that...."

(actually, I have on a sew in, im PSing until the end of the year. and also he commented on my "wig" last week, so I wasnt even thinking about that lol).

But anyways, I'm like that's ok (no really, its no biggie). Then he goes on, "What i meant it is, I like the natural hair, not saying that your hair now doesn't look nice, I just think that YOUR natural hair is beautiful". I was not expecting that. I mean, I managed to get to work on time and I get a hair compliment, who knows, I might get a raise too.

I agree, it's very nice when people compliment and appreciate your natural hair. I BC in April and I can't remember ever receiving so many hair compliments. Frankly I'm really surprised, but loving it! BTW, my hair is 4b and approximately 6 inches long.

The "beautiful" compliment seemed a little backhanded to me .....like him just clarifying why he doesn't like your wig or weave ....again why is he even critiquing your hair choice.

Maybe, I’m misreading too much into this

Congrats on your BC. I know exactly how you feel. I had ok hair when i was relaxed, it wasn't damaged, it just wasnt all that and i've been wearing my hair like that for the majority of my life. After i BC i went straight to braids because i wasn't completely comfortable with it. This summer actually is the first time i wore my hair in its natural state. I twisted for the summer and I got so many wonderful compliments. The only thing im nervous about is wearing my hair in its lose state. its just too big and i dont really like "standing out". I like to be invisible lol

I could see why you feel the way you do. IRL, he's genuinely nice. He complimented me on my weave too. He didn't say anything negative about, atleast not that I remember.

Idk, guys sometimes have to question things, they are sometimes confused. After I BC, I went to f-ball game (friends having fun playing sports) and one of my friends asked me if all the time was i wearing a weave because he didn't understand how i went from have straight hair to having a fro....lol

@CurliDiva - I understand what you're saying; I just think men don't understand the concept of protective styling. He may have thought she was wearing a wig/weave in order to "do" her hair. I wear wig sometimes and it confuses the heck outta my guy friends - they're like whhhhhy are you wearing a wig you have a ton of hair! And I'm like UH I'm ps'ing it, get off me, lol!
