I've read a few posts on BHM board following the original crazy concern. Looks as though LHCF members seem a bit more in touch with themselves. I saw some strange on BHM......posts about 'nice hair, better grades of hair, naps, good hair, bad hair.' I am glad LHCF has mostly intelligent black women who seem to be better educated and much more in touch with real life, i.e...life as it is...whether married to a black man or white man.. I've seen here concerns about the health {product usage effects, etc.} of the not yet born child but hair texture. How silly....good grief!!!

I've seen that here many a times, from people complaining about their kids hair to hoping their children have a certain type of hair- only the ladies here word it better.

Just for the record, unless they're of the Rex variety, rats have very silky straight hair on their asses.:brainy:

Yes, I'm being stupid now.:lachen:

STOOOOOOOP!!:lachen: :lachen:

I was thinking about that! All those rats we had in the projects never had nappy hair.:look: :lachen:

My friends husband did that...he checked the finger nails...he is lighter and she is darker. She said her feelings were so hurt that he would do that. This is sorta OT but I know of a few people friends/family where the person that is light and color struck but yet they have babies with someone dark or very dark and act all concerned about the skin or hair texture..I'm like WTF...you know that it could happen...so why are you talking about "I hope they are my complexion" ...why didn't you just pick someone lighter then....I really don't get it.

I think if she had to choose between a nappy hair healthy baby and a straight hair baby with a disability she would forget about hair in a second.

I dont know about that. Self-hatred is a deep thing, man. *smh*

I really shouldn't even be paying attention to this type of post but, it's so shocking. Where do these people come from?!?

Check out this response:

"Hey Sexy! Don't worry, my husband is white too and believe you me, when you guys have kids, your husband's grade of hair will cancel out your "nappy hair". Your child will come out with hair that is wavy and a finer texture than the average African American's hair. So, don't worry! Sit back and enjoy your preganancy. I'm next
smiley32.gif
. I'll let you know when I get knocked up!

"

Yeah, many of the responses she got were similar to that.... encouraging that nonsense. *smh* They are a bunch of enablers over there, i guess. :perplexed

My cousin is refusing to have any more babies from her husband, because the first one came out too dark for her liking. She is an average brownskin lady and he is very dark with naturally curly hair. She says all the time that the child having curly hair is the only thing that saves her. Her first two girls from another man are both high yella, and they are clearly favored. A mess!

Thats why I cant even hang with them too tough, just too much ignorance.

So sad that folks act like this. I could cry.

Yea, this gave me pause as well. But I'm like, if he's married to her and probably has just as many wild issues as she does. I did wonder though.

Did I read that right...why is her husband buying a lace front? THis woman needs serious couneling.( I hope she was watching Ophra today) hehe :)

senimoni said:
Yeah that is really messed up. Not all (disclaimer) but a lot of woman are bound by their lace fronts and weaves to the point where they are "afraid" to let people see their hair ...this one takes the cake though. Maybe she can hope for a boy and just keep his hair cut short.

I've seen quite a few posts on different boards where folks worlds are going to end b/c the chinese man didn't send them their lace front and the world is going to come to an end. I've even seen a thread about "what are we going to do if we go to war with china"...lol. I'm glad to see folks are concerned with Global Politics.

I am sorry but your comment about the Chinese man not sending someone their lacefront is so funny:lachen: Yet, it is the truth. If a black woman cannot even accept her own hair, which a lot of women cannot than most children will never stand a chance to love their own hair or much yet get the entire love from their parents.

Honestly, Sweet...I've never seen any like it here but then....I usually only skim the headings in the Off-topic area and leave most of them alone! "What is your SO's race?" "Whites/Blacks? Midgets/Birds/earthworms...whatever who can so get it." "Do men like light or dark skin?" I don't get the purpose of some of them, just shake my head and move on.

Hold up a second, I just went back and re-read the OP's thread. Am I right in my interpretation that she's been wearing a lace front this entire time, and her hubby has never seen her natural hair? And so, when the baby is born with curly hair, dun dun dun. Now that's something else.

Yes, you are correct. :ohwell: I can't believe this hair thing is still going strong in the 21st century!

I did this when my daughter was born. I'm dark brown, her dad is lite brite yellow. We are not together so I was afraid that if people saw me with a really light baby they would think she wasn't my child. I was PRAYING this girl would have my dark skin  She's not quite as dark as I, more like a golden brown but I am so thanful she is closer to my color. Horrible, I know :lachen:

 :perplexed :ohwell: :look:

I know a white couple with 3 little girls. The mom and dad both have dark hair and olive skin. ALL 3 of their girls have red hair and very fair skin. It came from somewhere along the mom's family line.

I also have a good friend that has an older sister. The 2 look NOTHING alike - not like sisters at all. The older sister had a baby and her baby looked EXACTLY like the younger sister. Its all in the genes.

Our backgrounds are so diverse, our baby's could look like us, our grandparents siblings, etc.

I think many of us put too much weight on skin color, hair, etc.

I admit, when I had my son (I was a teenager) I was a little embarrassed that my BF was a white guy. I never told anyone at school, and they were even surprised that me, Miss Goody Two Shoes, even HAD a boyfriend in the 1st place - let alone an older white guy that did not even go to our school. I knew they were going to wonder why my baby looked so differently than me. But I was young and immature. Now at 31, I would NEVER think about that stuff. I am actually ashamed that I even cared!!!

I hope that this girl is just young and will look back on her feelings, as I do now, and be embarrassed that she thought about such silly things.

And you are right when a Black baby is born the first thing folks do is check the ears (supposedly thats the color the baby will end up) and pray the hair "doesnt turn".

I have heard of that, but I always thought that was OLD SCHOOL!! Do people really so that these days!!!???

It sounds like something my grandparents would do back in the day!

I actually read the entire thread, and girl...it gets crazier.

She came back saying she had shaved her head bald because the glue messed up her hair...hubby had seen that, but she was afraid to grow her hair back cause then he'd know the truth about her real texture!!! :perplexed

This has got to be a joke.

I have no words....

Oh yes I do...

Sorry this may be harsh, but that poster is beyond stupid

She is married to a man that has never seen her real hair?

She thinks that if the baby has nappy hair it would reveal her secret, as if genes are so predictable like that.

She is afraid of the baby having nappy hair in the first place.

She said she looked exotic...that is almost a dead give away for someone with issues.

My list could go on

:dizzy:

I'm not going to say a word.

^^^Um, bravenewgirl, most of us have no clue what that post was about. Sounds a little personal, to me. Perhaps you could have saved that for a PM? Just sayin'.

Anyway, it sounds to me like that BHM post was a sick joke. But there are definitely people who still feel that way. We can't deny that.:(
