I was going to say! I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't shocked. I mean, it's very sad, but it doesn't surprise me one bit.:ohwell:

I mean I am saying. When just about everyone you know asks you to have a baby with your SO (who has a looser hair texture) and the number one reason they can think of is "yall baby is gonna have good hair." Then there is a problem! A HUGE problem.

It's soo common I am surprised that YALL are suprised.:ohwell:

She is ignorant beyond belief! And if she was serious about what she said I pray that God does not bless that stupid (*****) with a baby.

I would not be surprised about this comment from the general population, but not from any fellow hair board ladies. I prefer LHCF over BHM anyday, but I still would not expect people in our subcultures to admit to this kind of crazy talk about hair.

At least, I could never see someone on LHCF even going there, unless she was a newbie or just was looking to get the beat down.

OT:
Lauren!! The baby's are so cute!!! Your daughter looks just like you, to me.
I love the siggie pics!
:D

I couldn't read past the first page of that thread, it's quite sad that people still carry those kinds of insecurites. Like locks mentioned I believe we've had something similar over here and it's not a shock to me. :nono:

I am really surprised that we are so shocked by this. I know TOO MANY people intelligent African-Americans who have announced that they want men with a decent grade of hair or of another race, so their children can have "pretty hair." :perplexed :( Even an acquaintance of mine prayed that her children would get her husband's hair texture. This ain't nothing new and it is not just in the South either.

Besides, in this very visual world that we are living in, one of the first things that people inquire/make comments about when a child is born is hair texture and eye color. How many times have I heard "Baby X has good hair." I am most concerned that I am able to have children and preferably while my parents are still healthy (Pressure from myself not them). My next concerns are that the children are healthy, happy, saved (it's their choice on that), etc. I digress...

I notice that the dynamics of BHM is a little different from here. They are a little less pc and are (seeminlgy to me) younger. Flat out being real, they say some ignorant stuff over there.

I've read a few posts on BHM board following the original crazy concern. Looks as though LHCF members seem a bit more in touch with themselves. I saw some strange on BHM......posts about 'nice hair, better grades of hair, naps, good hair, bad hair.' I am glad LHCF has mostly intelligent black women who seem to be better educated and much more in touch with real life, i.e...life as it is...whether married to a black man or white man.. I've seen here concerns about the health {product usage effects, etc.} of the not yet born child but hair texture. How silly....good grief!!!

Having read the first five pages of that thread, we can at least take heart that by and large, most people echo our sentiments. True, ignorance and self-hatred/internalized racism abound, but we're growing as a community because the number of posts saying how ridiculous that OP is far outweigh those who agree with her!

I dunno, just trying to see some good in this situation...

Oh no people have said some real extra stuff over here too!
Like befriending racists, not associating with blacks and etc. Only keeping company with whites.

Honestly, I think the whole scenerio is made up...or the person is a flat out loon that's walking aroung preggars by a man in a Michael jackson lacefront:lachen:

I really shouldn't even be paying attention to this type of post but, it's so shocking. Where do these people come from?!?

Check out this response:

"Hey Sexy! Don't worry, my husband is white too and believe you me, when you guys have kids, your husband's grade of hair will cancel out your "nappy hair". Your child will come out with hair that is wavy and a finer texture than the average African American's hair. So, don't worry! Sit back and enjoy your preganancy. I'm next

. I'll let you know when I get knocked up!

im hoping that was sarcasm

I find it sad but for this very reason I am glad to be natural. What you see is what you get. My SO has seen me with my hair looking like:eek: and he has seen it tame :) . He just loves the fact it is long.

I think that this woman is giving her husband less credit than he deserve.

I hope she fixes her issues quick. I think if she had to choose between a nappy hair healthy baby and a straight hair baby with a disability she would forget about hair in a second.

I also think this is not a white man with black woman issue. I see and know plenty of black women that try to pass their relaxed or texturized locks off as their hair. Even if their man knows it is not their natural hair texture they will say my hair is not as nappy.:look: A lot of black men have been disappointed but I can understand why a lot of black women feel a need to be secretive about their hair.

Sad to say but I highly doubt it. Just as long as the disabled baby has "good/exotic/straight/long/silky" hair. :ohwell: Damn, people make me sick.

Yeah that is really messed up. Not all (disclaimer) but a lot of woman are bound by their lace fronts and weaves to the point where they are "afraid" to let people see their hair ...this one takes the cake though. Maybe she can hope for a boy and just keep his hair cut short.

I've seen quite a few posts on different boards where folks worlds are going to end b/c the chinese man didn't send them their lace front and the world is going to come to an end. I've even seen a thread about "what are we going to do if we go to war with china"...lol. I'm glad to see folks are concerned with Global Politics.

I've seen some stuff along the same lines here too.

It's not as shocking as we want to believe. It is actually VERY common.

Thanks for bringing me beack to reality.

You are damn straight , the stuff I see in the Off Topic Forum here:eek: . Ive back myself out of posts there several times in my short time here.

And you are right when a Black baby is born the first thing folks do is check the ears (supposedly thats the color the baby will end up) and pray the hair "doesnt turn".

Exactly. "Self-hate" (as a lot of people call it) exists here, but sometimes hair isn't the root of the discussion. There are so many dimensions of this and hair is just one of them.

I'd have to agree with Locks and Lauren on this one. I've seen some odd comments here when it comes to texture/type of hair.

We're a small microcosm of the world at large, and these feelings are still widespread whether we want to admit/accept it or not. They are still widespread in the AA race as well as most other races. It may be unpopular or not PC to give voice to it, but the minds of people have a long way to go before they catch up with what is PC to say.

Heaven help her, because her issues run way deep. To never have let your husband see your hair that grows out of your head? So sad.

And with all the things that can go wrong with a baby, she's concerned about the hair?

Lord help her.

I did this when my daughter was born. I'm dark brown, her dad is lite brite yellow. We are not together so I was afraid that if people saw me with a really light baby they would think she wasn't my child. I was PRAYING this girl would have my dark skin  She's not quite as dark as I, more like a golden brown but I am so thanful she is closer to my color. Horrible, I know :lachen:

I remember this as well grasshopper! Black folk can be very strange, and the slave mentalities run deep and wide in many of us. :ohwell:

Just for the record, unless they're of the Rex variety, rats have very silky straight hair on their asses.:brainy:

Yes, I'm being stupid now.:lachen:
