No, I don't feel this way. I think everyone should focus on achieving their hair growth, whether natural or relaxed. I'm very proud of the natural folks. I would have liked to have stay natural since I was a little girl. But I do not wish to go natural anytime soon. Everyone has what works for them.

What are you talking about?! Closely read my post! Have you ever seen me say I was "hatin" on the natural heads? Did you ever here me say I don't like natural heads. Have I ever said I wasn't proud of natural heads' goals?

I think many of you are completely reading between the lines, trying to add what you want, and trying to make it of how you want it. :look:

I give up.

I think this thread is really insulting to the naturals. Why does it have to be a competition? I thought we were all in this hair thing together:ohwell:

i just posted in another thread saying basically we shouldn't be trying to be on the natural crew or the relaxed crew but the lhcf crew...i think there are way to many emphasis on what our individual hair preferences.

peace, love, and hair grease....or oil, or moisturizer, or protein...lol

To the OP: A lot of people who read your post(s) on this thread were confused. Maybe of you stated yourself clearer, this thread wouldn't be taking this path.

 not trying to beat a dead horse, but I went natural after seeing you guys on here. That and the health aspect. Although I guess you can call that "fad-ish", I won't be changing it. I love it.

I think this whole natural hair thing is a fad for the "real world". Everyone is doing it,

Daily IRL I see more relaxed hair than natural where Im at.

Soon the naturals are going to be SL and I'ma be STUCK with them! I'm not havin it! :wallbash:

Anyone else feel like this

Natural hair may grow faster but idk it probably depends...
it's frustrating when you are stuck at one goal for so long I know, but you cant worry about people catchin up to you and passing you lol, the best you can do is make sure you run the race at least and cross the finish line.

Either you ahve beautiful natural hair, or beautiful long relaxed hair!

I've seen some stunning natural heads and thought about BCing but I just couldn't, at least not now, it'll make me feel like Im starting all over again for the 10th time. I've seen stunning relaxed heads and thought about ending my transition lol.

Natural hair is a beauty once it is cared for

Beautiful healthy hair captures me every time

:lachen:OMG you can seriously tell this is a majority natural board.

Everytime someone makes something (that is NOT even dergatory towards naturals) oh then here comes everyone with the uneeded snappy remarks towards me:rolleyes:. If it is not a competition (which I never stated it was) why are you guys quick to jump the gun to defend your precious natural head. In this post no one is winning. This is just a statement of my opinions. Just let me state my opinion and you state yours and be done.

Hater...Downgrading the experience...WTF! I just made a post stating

1. There are more naturals around here lately
2. I think it is a fad, and in a year or two the majority will move to other styles (This is my opinion, not yours. )
3. With the growing numbers of beautiful natural heads and relaxed heads, don't you feel the need (inspired for better terms) to grow yoru hair strong healthy and long? (If YOU don't, oh well. I personally do)
4. Just because YOU went natural does not mean YOU did it because of a fad. I was talking about "real life America." and not LHCF.com. On this board you know the cons and pros on going natural, most others do not. They just think it's kute right now. Which is why I call it a fad.

"precious natural head" :lachen::nono::lachen:LOL

The big hair changes from relaxed, natural, jerri curls,...they all seem to last like 10 years....I think the relaxers came in big in the early 90's and the at first their were more "hard" hairsryles and pushing into the 2000's we got more soft and volume styles and learnt how to grow relaxed hair long....
But anyway, if natural is the next big change in hair again, i think it will last 10 years or more as well being that it takes like 4years to be full natural with long hair.

I think i can be honest with number 3, im am ALWAYS deeply deeply inspired whenever i see long hair or beautifull hair...it actually makes me go home and look at my regimen and products and think about protective styling or something more...just up my game.

I can agree with number 4, people IRL and their hair choices are WAY different from us ladies on LHCF and i dont think anyone should be offended when people make observations/statements about peoples hair IRL...Because we know that alot of people relax just because they see it around/the majority of people do it

I dont think nesscerliy the word "fad", but when more and more people do something, others usually catch on, but they have their own reasons for it.

No, I don't think you're a hater. After reading the rest of the posts, I understand what you're trying to say now. And I feel that a lot of people don't understand what you're trying to say and are therefore jumping on you. Sorry you feel that way.

Man, I hope this doens't offend anyone, but I think this whole natural hair thing is a fad for the "real world". Everyone is doing it, and HALF of them don't know diddly swat about hair care! They just thought it would look cool!

Either you ahve beautiful natural hair, or beautiful long relaxed hair! Natural hair is a beauty once it is cared for

It's the new hottest do, and I feel the need to catch up. Either you ahve beautiful natural hair, or beautiful long relaxed hair! Natural hair is a beauty once it is cared for, and I feel like since I'm not rushing off to get a BC I need to AT LEAST get to my goal of APL soon and VERY VERY SOON lool! Soon the naturals are going to be SL and I'ma be STUCK with them!

Is there a reason you believe that short relaxed hair cannot be beautiful hair? Also, if "natural hair is a beauty once cared for" then the people who "don't know diddly swat about hair care" won't have beautiful natural hair.

What are you trying to catch up to? If your taking care of your hair and they're not, then your hair will grow and their's won't. I don't see a problem or why you would think that you're going to be stuck

Do not give up just be clear and stand for what you believe so that we all can have an excellent conversation(s) each one of us can teach each other here is a :needhug:

I think the problem lies in the fact that the word "fad" was used. I don't understand how wearing your own Natural hair can be a fad...isn't a fad usually something you choose? Last I checked we can't choose our natural hair and what it will be like. And speaking of fad, I'm pretty sure maybe relaxers were thought to be a fad at once and it eventually became the norm...

Plus, if a person follows a fad, they are considered a conformist which then makes the comment offensive to some which is probably why you're getting the feedback you are getting. My thoughts:rolleyes:

I'm an equal opportunity hair lover :yep: and topics like this are divisive...Ever sent a text and somebody got the totally wrong idea because they were reading it and not there in person? Same thing can easily happen here.

OP, I'm definately not jumping on you or being mean. When you said the naturals are catching up and you are going to be stuck at a certain length..does that mean you think natural hair does not grow as long/quickly as relaxed hair. I think you accidentally stepped on a lot of toes with that statement because it sounds kind of like you expect natural hair to be shorter and struggle with length as opposed to relaxed.

Enlighten me. :perplexed

This a majority common sense board. Common sense should tell you that people go natural for all kinds of reasons. And common sense should also tell you that when you make comments like "HALF of them don't know diddly swat about hair care" that you just might get some not too pleasant responses.

Don't light the match and bawl murdah when you see fire!

(BTW, I'm just a transitioner, thinking of texlaxing again...and I don't agree with you. It's not about natural or relaxed, but about making sense here).

...:yep:...^^^that, and the title of the thread. It really isn't a competition.

HHG --- the journey to healthy hair is sometimes a long one for both relaxed and natural heads. Good luck.

wow...just wow.

since natural hair is a fad I'm getting excited for the day that I won't be the only natural in church, at the grocery store, in the neighborhood, and among my friends...now I won't stand out so much and I get to share the stares, uninvited hair touching, and unnecessary comments with someone else.

Since natural hair is a fad, first time in my entire life I'm "in-style".

OK, Sorry, I am going to go off topic but I am a relaxed head and can I just say that you naturals on this board have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL natural hair I have ever seen in my life. You ladies have really made me think about going natural but honestly, I just can't cause I can't deal with all that hair. But I see the versatility and I think it's so cool. I just love it.

Great job naturals. Just lush, beautifully defines curls. Hair looking so healthy and shiny. I love love love it!!

I find these 2 statements - interesting.........:ohwell:

My last relaxer was 10 years ago. I went natural Long before it was the "in thing" - btw - I am not sure when it became the "in thing" - but I digress.................

If you feel that you have not reahed your goals - please keep in mind that everyone - is different. I guess I have passed you up... I am not at Shoulder length..( and I don't really measure either) but I never really think about that. I think more about the health of my hair - and what is best for it. Maybe there is something that you need to tweak or change that will give you great results.... but this certainley is not a competition. that thinking just feeds other myths about our hair, etc etc.............:perplexed

This is what I'm sayin. I don't care who opposes, this natural thing for most is a fad. Maybe not on this site, because many do it for health reasons, but in teh real world it's the new thing. Susie and Kim just made the BIG chop so I will too. It's kute. .Just like it was in the 70s with our BAA and 80s with our Jheri Curls, everything makes a turn around. I feel like the going completely natural thing is a fad for 2009.

No pressure with being relaxed or unrelaxed. It's a preference just like natural heads. But I think after natural fad leaves, we will be on to another chic style.

I have a few issues with the bolded statements.....

Getting back to your original hair texture is never a fad:ohwell:

Relaxed head here.

The OP sucked. So does this post.

WOW. I just read this whole thread......

OP - I hope that you know that we are all on this board for the same reason.

:nono:Heavens to Betsy....

This is the idea that I got from OP's original post as well. I've read and re-read and I still don't understand.

I don't know necessarily how natural hair can be a "fad", as it's something you're born with, and so anything that is not permanent is then considered a fad: relaxers, jherri curls, etc. Your natural hair is your natural hair for life.

I'm not natural yet but transitioning because I'm tired of suffering scalp burns and I don't want to depend on relaxers for the rest of my life. In any event, each person's hair grows differently, it's not a race to see who can be #1.

What they eat don't make you s---.

ETA: I can see why a lot of people are jumping on you, and I don't think it's because the board is majority natural (which I disagree with.) Your title of the thread alone puts naturals and relaxers are two opposite sides of the fence, when it really shouldn't be. Your explanations were pretty unclear and your statement above that's bolded makes it sound like natural hair has more trouble growing than relaxed hair, and since you're relaxed you HAVE to surpass their growth.

You may not have meant it this way, but the tone of your post sounds condescending and I can see where the misunderstandings take place.

Again though, what they eat doesn't make you s---.
