After so much praise and joy that my dandruff was leaving. It came back in full force and its all back on my face mustache ears sideburns and etc. Im going to be stuck with this crap for life. By the time my skin problem clears up im not even going to want long hair anymore.

How much evening primrose and flax seed oil are you taking daily? I had to double my previous intake to get mine under control. I take 2000 mg of each daily.

Unfortunately, I have this same problem with excessive dry skin. Drinking lots of water helps as well as a good moisturizer. You can't cure it but doing this will help make it less severe.

Maybe you should see a dermatologist. It could be more than just dandruff, esp if its on your face.

been to derm and i know its seborrheic dermatitis. Im currantly working with a natural doctor who has me on some natural supplements thats supposed to help the problem. Including fish oil. I drink alot of water throughout the day and it doesnt do anything. I don't put anything on my scalp because it makes the problem worst. I can't eat anything dairy so i eat chicken almost everyday. It is getting on my nerves all my favorite foods are gone. all because of this crap

Check your hair products because it sound like you are allergic to something. What it is I don't know. Have you switch to natural hair products?

Don't want to take all your food away but you could be allergic to chicken too. They say certain blood types need to stay away from chicken, like types a and ab.

I've learned though that excessive dandruff (as well as many other similar skin disorders) is tied to our eliminations, our bodies not releasing all of the toxins properly. Water is definitely important. Since you are watching your diet, make sure you are moving your bowels a few times each day. Acidophilus can be a BIG help too in keeping your colon filled with healthy bacteria. You can buy supplements or eat yogurt with live active cultures.

My dandruff (used to be terrible) came from SLS in shampoos. Do you use shampoos with sodium laureth sulfate in them? Watch your facial cleansers too. It is an ingredient in many of those too.

Cream of nature, Aubrey Organics, castille soap are some alternative shampoos that don't contain SLS. Watch those at the natural stores too...sometimes they contain SLS as well.

It's funny that many dermatologists will prescribe medicated shampoos with SLS in them. They say you have to wash your hair everyday or every other day. I figure that I can just use whatever shampoo if I have to wash my hair that much. I was paying the dermatologist to find a cure that didn't require all of that!!!

My seborrheic dermatis flared up again when I went on my vitamin break and was not taking my flaxseed oil and fish oil which helped keep it in check.
Do you do co washes I no longer have it in my hair just on my face side burns, eye brows etc.
I hardly ever use my Nizoral shampoo anymore it has sls I am
using J/A/S/O/N/S Natural shampooS.

I have the same thing along my hair line and in front of my ears. I know that too much dairy make mine flare. I take 2000mg of evening primrose and 2000mg of flax seed oil. This has been the only thing that works for me. I see that you take fish oil but have you tried evening primrose and flax seed?

You can order it online from several places. vitaminshoppe.com and vitaminlife.com are two that come to mind. I know ordering online is a hassle (and expensive). But it's worth it for healthy hair, IMO.

hello,
I am new to the board....typing with one hand (my non-dominant hand after surgery on my shoulder)...so forgive the lowercase please.

1) while I wholeheartedly support natural and alternative medicine...I think that getting to the root of the problem (the pathology, what your body's reaction is) and working to solve and prevent that is the first step.
seborrheic dermatitis can be either acute or chronic and has many causes. Iching, dry scales or oily yellow scurf are common. Considering the involvement of you face it is likely truly seborrhea. Scaling w/o underlying reddness is simple dandruff.
2. Consider other causes. I am not sure if you work with or around children, but fungal infections, even slight trigger flares as well. Scaling of the scalp from tinea capitus (ring worm) can trigger seborrheic flares on your face, but those usually involve some alopecia of the scalp area affected. Beware that once your primary barrier (your skin) is broken you are also susceptible to secondary infections making the simple underlying dermatitis look even worse.
3. Be wise, if what you are doing is not working, open your mind to other treatments (although I realize you are probably frustrated by now.) While there are many shampoos that can be prescribed by a typical dermatologist, (DHS band with zinc is really a good brand...ask the pharmacist at your local drug store)....along with mild facial soaps, you should also be using a mild corticosteroid lotion or cream (1% hydrocortisone, or desonide)used intermittently, but not close to the eyes. If the flare cannot be controlled by topical steroid alone, ketoconazole an antifungal cream (Nizoral) and/or shampoo can be used.

The tendency is lifelong recurrences, so be encouraged and proactive. Learn what your triggers are (weather changes, hot showers, or stress) and learn to keep your primary barrier cool and intact (breakfree, clean and dry )after it has cleared up and you are smiling about your beautiful skin. After the flare, which will inevitably clear (nothing last forever) just continue to keep it simple and be conscientious ...which it seems you are already doing.

Best of luck....
wow I was a bit loquacious...sorry, but I hope it helps.

PS - everyone else had already spoken about your water, vitamin and oil intake so I did not comment on that.
