Shoot, forget that funky smell each time I smell my hair after two days with no wash. If white girls can wash their hair daily, why can't I. I want to have my hair smelling fresh and good everyday, I can stand for my butt to be clean but my hair smelling like  whoa! Because I won't wash it for being afraid of dryness. I feel my hair is nasty dry when I don't wash it, and I have to add stuff all in adding in more build up. I'm sick of it!!! I want to know if anybody feels me? The only thing too is that I need that heat to smooth it/straighten it out flat after it dries. If there is a will, there's a way, but I just don't know where the way is!? Any suggestions/solutions to attain Sexy smelling hair, without sabotaging it? Also, just a thought, white girls blowdry their hair daily and still have length, so if I don't blow dry but only use a flatiron instead, why shouldn't I have length too? Come on yall I know the brain juices are flowing. TIA

I think flatironing every day would be too much. You could try rollersetting though. My cousin washes and sets her hair almost every night and she has always had past bra strap length hair. I don't have the patience or skills for all of that though.

As you read more on LHCF you will see that many of us wash our hair on a very regular basis & do not have any issues with dry hair. Try conditioner washes. Many of we naturals do it all of the time & have great smelling hair. HTH
I don't have any advice on smooth straight hair.

White girls may blow-dry everyday, but they do not usually have a chemical relaxer that has broken down their hair bonds either.

I recommend that you wash your hair once a week, since you need heat to smooth/straighten it. That way you won't be using too much heat on your hair. I'd also recommend using shampoo, deep conditioner, and then follow with a wash out conditioner...after that the only other product you should use is a heat protectant (one that smells good) and then flatiron your hair. Your hair will smell good and not have a lot of product build-up. During the week, do not add any products to your hair unless it's something like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Serum to not weigh your hair down or give stinky hair.

Is ORS cool for a Co-Wash? Also, how often can I actually shampoo, once or twice a month or less or more? Will the Co-Wash have my scalp smelling clean? How many times do I do it once or twice? Do you scratch your scalp doing it? Can you suggest a Conditioner to do it with?

there are various threads about this. try using the search. i use V05 conditioners to Co wash and those conditioners smell nice. and yes, conditioner washes leave your hair clean, fresh and sexy smelling. lol "sexy"

I didn't have a problem with minimal (once or twice a week) shampooing during the fall/winter and spring monthes but now that summer is in full effect I am sweating like crazy and my hair is getting a funk that the condition washes don't seem to help! Its particularily around the nape area, maybe cause I sweat more there? Anyway, I've started shampooing just that area in order to rid the funk and have my hair smelling fresh again.

Right On for the links! Girl, I had to say sexy, cause that's what I want, to attract the bees to the honey, if ya know what I mean ;) .

Nooooooo....not ORS (too much protein), get a moisturizing cheap conditioner, the V05 Milks one's are good. Or you can use a Pantene conditioner, I like those for co-wahses.

Oooo Girl thank you, because I just bought a new one yesterday. I'm glad I didn't this morning, I gotta get some of that V05 for sho'! Its cheaper too. I won't use Pantene, don't like it. But now I'm a handle it and see how it goes, because I gotta get this right! I still don't see how conditioner can clean your scalp though. But, I trust yall know what yall talking about.

I co wash my hair every day. Thanks to Caligirl’s tip, I am really into the Clairol Herbal Essence Replenishing conditioner right now (or CHER as I've been calling it). It smells wonderful. I have much LESS dryness than I used to now that I co wash each day. I don’t scratch my scalp when I co wash, only use the pads of my fingers. You might also want to try the fusion wash method, C-COW-C that Cinnabuns wrote about. I like that too and use it once or twice a week.

I wish I had some advice for you on the smoothing/straightening but I don't use any heat, so I'm not sure about that.

I agree conditioner washes. Also since I am natural and do not use heat at all my hair always smells fresh even if I haven't washed it in a week. The stank smell came from using curling irons and such every day. I don't know if this is an option for you though.

Girl, U'd be the perfect candidate to try the Surge hair & braid deodorizer. Go ahead...give it a try.... If u come back with some good reviews then i'll try it too. :D Cause I love the fresh hair smell also, but i'm too lazy to wash my locs more than every 4 days...My hair is like a jungle...it's thick and it takes alot of effort to tame it...

and i want to recommend the Mizani Shyne oil sheen spray...this smells soooooooooooooooooooooo good. i will lightly spray it on my hair in the morning and for the next hours I'll get a whiff of it every once in a while. The NTM serum smells very good on fresh washed hair, it will last for 2 days or so.

if you use any leave in's in your hair.. you can add oils ... Like jasmine or rose to it ..
I add a drop or two to my gel and it smells great , I alway get compliments that my hair smells nice...

Believe it or not since Friday I've been washing my hair almost everyday (except this morning-too lazy) with shampoo. I just discovered Matrix Curl.Life. The shampoo is thick and creamy like a conditioner. I have not experienced any dryness yet. :yep:

Leaving conditioner in my hair makes it smell sexy (like coconuts). I use Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner. I agree that using heat defeats the purpose because my hair just ends up smelling burnt, even if it really isn't. If you're relaxed, maybe you can airdry in a wrap.

Hi! I just wanted to add that everytime I wash my hair and condition with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recover Hair Mask (or the NTM Deep Conditioner) I can't stop shaking my hair because it smells so fresh for days afterward. :Rose: HTH!

Thanks yall for the tips and product information. I'm really digging the whole concept of Co-Washing daily, while I'm listening to this song Romantic by Goapele (girl can sang). I better get to washing  .

Oh no! Another one that I have to go out and buy. I like Matrix products, but hadn't seen Curl.Life. I've been using Aveda Sap Moss and loving it. But a shampoo I could use more often would be great.

Sap Moss is good but I think Matrix treats my curls better as far moisture is concerned. However Sap Moss is lighter and allows my curls to have more volume. :perplexed: What's a girl to do? :look:

No dryness? I'll have to try this one. Thanks for the tip! :)
