How do you feel about members creating their own sites and charging?

i dont care...people looking for ways to make money these days...I probably wouldnt pay for it, but I dont knock them for doing them... If you dont like..find a free one.. I know I would...

I say make your money, if people are willing to pay for info. then there's nothing wrong with other people charging for said info. Some people are willing to pay instead of searching for the info. they're looking for.

agree totally!!!:yep:

It doesn't bother me one way or the other either. It's always good to have options, with that said, there is a wealth of endless information here, I don't have a desire to go to another site and pay a higher fee for something I can get for pennies here.

To echo the sentiments of a lot of the other posts. I really don't care, if someone wants to pay extra for what they already get here so be it. This is the only forum I have paid for and will also be the only one I ever will. It more than pays for itself, heck the laughs I get from some of these threads is worth the price alone:yep:. I doubt you'll ever find a group of ladies like the ones here. I luv's me some LHCF:yep:

Could care less....

(personally, I feel that folks spend money where they TRULY want, in ways they desire, broke or NO.....)

:look:

The only site I will be paying for is LHCF. I originally said I would NEVER pay for a site.. but I ate my words.. kind of glad that I did because this site is great.. love the other sections and the fact that they do not get too ridiculous because mods watch over the site..

All the other sites are free. I spend $6.50 in my sleep.. so I think I can manage..

I haven't paid for any other sites. But sometimes people aren't just paying for the information, they could be paying for that person's spin on the info. Hey it's the American way!

I noticed this as well.

I feel like it's their prerogative. It's kinda funny to assume people would pay you for what you know they're already getting here, but hey, more power to them!!

However, I wont be subscribing to their sites.

I prefer going to the free blogs I see members here make. It's kinda like a sweet testimony to LHCF, they show their progress, and their passion for hair care etc etc...

i know i wouldn't do it. it was hard enough for me to cough up $6.50 after being on BHM for years for FREE. but im chatty lol

im just mad i didnt think of it. couldve paid for flowers at my wedding or something. shoot

I pay here because I know it takes time to manage a site and hosting isnt free I dont feel like the owner is doing this for profit

However with the site in question the fact that I can no longer visit said person fotki, see youtube videos all things that were once free! I dunno it kinda bugs me... I feel like that individual is trying to make a profit off of me for advice...not a product. And Im too far along in my journey and know too much about my hair to pay for advice.... esp when you wanna charge more than LHCF.

but honestly im only one person and it only bugs me! im sure plenty of ppl are fine with it and if they like it I love it! Your just not getting my money as others have said B4!

Maybe those websites are helpful for people who don't want to search for the info...everything is pared down and they can get one-on-one help.

For me i use LHCF and a hair book. I'll watch videos from websites if they are free.

Im not paying $10 a month what I can get it here for $6.50 a YEAR.

But just because in so many ways it is a rip off, doesn't mean it wrong or illegal. If that how she wants to hustle, more power to her. I won't be donating.

Isn't LHCF a product of other, defunct hair boards? I just remember reading that the creators of this board were members of other boards, did not agree with how things were being run and felt as if they had an opportunity to create something that works a little better. Thank goodness for us, because where would be had someone not taken the initiative to take what they've learned to create this wonderful site? Well, I guess you could be on other hair boards- but still, LHCF, to me sets the standard and I am grateful for its existence.

Good point. Variety is the spice of life and allows for different tastes and needs to be catered for.

I can understand some 'high demand' members needing to charge for their 'services' through a different platform - i.e. giving advice, doing product reviews, spending hours updating this and that album etc.

One former member I know of (who I suspect some posters are referring to) was a hair guru when I joined LHCF, so it wasn't really like she was on here stealing lots of info and repackaging it as her own. She was on here primarily helping other people since she was into hair care years before joining LHCF, and she has still been helpful to me even though I am not a member of her site. I can watch her Youtube vidoes for free too. I guess people like her feel they can provide for a niche for whom LHCF is not sufficient, which is understandable.

What I may have a problem with is current members refusing to answer a question without a subscription to their site, especially on info they evidently learn(ed) from here. That's a bit iffy to me.

Personally, it doesn’t bother me either way as it’s up to the potential subscribers’ to decide upon how they wish to spend their money; within that decision, they may feel like the site offers them something different to the pervious forum’s they have visited.
I however will not be subscribing to another hair forum as I  LHCF. The different perspectives I read from each member is wonderful and the wealth of knowledge on here is invaluable so much so that I spend far too much time on this forum :lachen:. Can’t imagine what I’d be like if I were a member of another forum but know with certainty that my work rate would be non-existent :look:.

I say more power to Macherie for creating her own site and selling rolling setting dvd. I was a member when it was free but felt LHCF members was answer for my hair and entertainment.

I'm mad that i just typed out this lonnnnng response, then my laptop went haywire. :wallbash: but to sum it up.... If you take the "emotion" of our love for hair out of it and think of it from an intelligent perspective, i think it is perfectly fine to sell your knowledge. afterall people have been doing it for ages. When you went to college and purchased your science book...do you think the author created the theory of relativity? or other scientific theories? Do you think the author of ur math book made up the math principle of 1 +1 = 2? No...he just simply invested years upon years researching, writing, organizing and editing the millions of pages of info into understandable paragraphs...thus he should be paid for his effort. and besides not one person on LHCF created the concept of a cowash, or protein/moisture balance, etc etc, nor did Shamboosie create this concept...we all was taught via word of mouth or by reading, so it's not like this is proprietary info. Soooo if someone wants to spend 5yrs researching lhcf and reading 45,000 pages of content and take the time to summarize it into a few paragraphs, then they definitely deserve the money for their efforts. Now for the ones who are asking people to pay to watch their haircare journey... that seems a little ridiculous... BUUUUT to each her own.... I am certainly not knocking the hustle.

I can even see myself someday taking the time to build a site with healthy hair facts because i have it in my heart to spread the word of healthy haircare to ALL black girls/women. Each and every single one... not just the select "lhcf elite". (and i had another point i made, but i totally forgot it. lol)

These are my thoughts...

1) It is America. Everyone is trying to make money. I very much support entreprenuriship among miniorities; especially among minority women. If they are Black women then that's even better.

2) I hope that women who leave the LHCF go on to create their own products and websites and that they do well. I hope they go on to own successful businesses and I hope that one day the prodominant owners/sellers of Black beauty supply products and stores are Blacks. Hardworking, consumer educated Blacks who run good businesses and have excellent customers service.

3) I only pay for a subscription to one website; this one. To date, I have not seen another website with as much information, as well organized or as frequently updated. The day that I do, I may acquire a new subscription.

4) The information on this website is shared freely. We all learn because as a community we all want to help one another and want one another to succeed in reaching our individual hair and beauty goals. Many of the women that have gone off to create other websites have done so after being longstanding, contributing members to this forum and others. Many of them have brought women to this website, including some of us here now. Many of them have contributed more to this website than any of the non-paying visitors or paying lurkers may ever contribute. And if we were are being really honest, some of these women have contributed more than some of us have, myself included.

5) Ultimatley, I want to see as many Black women with as much beautiful hair as possible. As many Black women promoting positive images of Black female beauty as possible. I don't care how it gets done. I don't care if it takes a million spin off websites. Black women are beautiful and the more websites out there that are a testament to that the better.

6) I've learned that it never really pays to worry about what Peter, John, or Paul are doing or what Peter, Paul, or John have. Because nine times out of ten it doesn't really affect me and if I really want it, then I know exactly what I have to do to get it...and no one is stopping me.

The only thing that really makes me sad when I see a new website go up is that it usually also means the loss of a longstanding, consisently contributing and respected member of LHCF.

Hey y'all...how do you think THIS site started? Just in the same way as these other folks. LHCF is hardly the oldest site around that's still active. Quite a few of the predecessors are still around and free!

The info on this site is not free or shared, it's exchanged as we are paying members. Besides, there's interest enough and room enough for other boards. LHCF doesn't suit all people and they should have other options too.

If you don't wanna join someone else's site, fine....but why shouldn't they use their bizhead like Bev did hers?

Good for them. Someone else besides Koreans should be making money off this black haircare business. :look: More of us need to get into it. :yep:

I think it's a great thing! We need more women of color starting their own businesses and the internet is a wonderful tool to do so. I have ideas for my own business and I ain't knockin anyone elses. We should be encouraging those who have moved on from this site to start ventures.

No, it doesn't bother me at all. And here's why:

Person A: Psssst. I can get you from NL to MBL in 2 weeks - for a small fee, that is.....

Person B: How much?

Person A: Half your paycheck

Person B: Do you take Paypal?

Person A: Normally I don't, but for you?...........I'll make an exception.

In the above conversation, who walked away mad? Neither of them! It really IS a victimless "crime". :look:
:lachen::lachen::lachen: I don't care who you are, but that's funny right there! :lachen:

Good point. I thought that this board was the product of longhaircommunity. This site adds the spend and adds details on how to specifically care for BLACK hair not just hair in general, but I don't have a problem with it because what? THE HAIR SECTION IS FREE! They're not making money off of anything except people who want to go the extra mile and fellowship. I respect them because of that

I don't see anything wrong with asking for donations. I have given to a few blogs that I frequent every day and can find a wealth of information.

I won't pay $10 a month to (((insert name of website here))) because I'm already at the desired length and have pretty much all the information I need. If somebody wants one on one service, especially since some people ignore newbies here (don't look at me) or tell them to use the search option instead of answering their questions, then I can see where someone can get frustrated and want to pay that fee.

At the end of the day its up to each individual to pay or not to pay.

Taina, hate to put you on blast but you DID pay! LOL you paid $6.50!

That's true also. I hate how the newbies get ignored, and for newbies it's easier just to find all the info you need to know in one concise place because all this info can be overwhelming...but dang! $10 a month? More than $25 a year? Come on....

I pay here because I know it takes time to manage a site and hosting isnt free I dont feel like the owner is doing this for profit

ITA with the bolded. That is just a pet peeve of mine. You've been giving the goods this long.....I would just make new vis and let the old ones stay up since they've been viewed THAT long.

That was deep. I LOVE IT! lol

I have a problem with the folks that charge over 10X the fee that this board charges. If you reach "hair idol" status and can have people follow you, there's no problem as long as you are fair.

On the other hand, some members here who refuse to press the search button and expect $6.50 to buy them a research assistant may need to pay $100 a year :look:.
