Hide Your Hair Til April Fools 2007 Challenge

I'm in! I'm in! Yay, my first challenge! I just relaxed my hair January 4th and the pictures in my sig are from a wash I did two days ago on the 9th. My birthday is in April and I was planning on stretching and touching up then. This is the perfect challenge for me!! My protective style is a simple pulled back hair that is folded and pinned under. No one will be seeing it until then! Happy growing, ladies! I can't wait for the big reveal!:)

I've gotten really hip to this new updo I've been wearing this whole week. It makes the hair look longer and thicker than it actually is. Best part is, is that it's all your own hair you're using to make the updo!!! I think I've gotten looks of admiretion(and hateration) from this style than my other styles. Since school started, I haven't wore my hair down, so even though it's long, the way I've styled my bun makes it look longer than it really is. I wanna wait until the challenge is over before I wear it down. Hopefully, I would've gained 3" by that time by using MTG.

Okay, i will try to commit. I have been doing this so far this year with a phony pony as I am well into a transition and the "ponytail" ends of my own hair are straight while the slicked back part on my scalp is coily/wavy.

I would like to go for braids or a possible sew-in in Feb, once I get my hairline/nape issues in check. No use adding extra stress to an already stressed hairline.

I think the challenge has perfect timing because by then the weather will be warmer and I can wear my hair down more often anyway. My semester ends on May 1, and it will be funny to walk into class with my hair down, and people be like

Okay, so can we see a pic of this fab style? I mean spread the love!;)

I'm in!:) Been bunning it up all week, no combing, just moisterizing at night and smoothing back into bun with my hand. Can't wait to show my growth in April:cool:

I am in too. I just cut my hair back down...and I feel really sad so I need this challenge to help me stay away from scissors. I will continue my simple routine that is washing and condtioning every week and bun it.

Simple works for me. so this should be good. Especially with my class schedule this spring. Thanks Rabia, I really needed this.

I would also like to join this challenge. I will be washing and deep conditioning once a week as normal. I will also be bunning EVERY DAY !

Good luck everyone.

I'm in too! I will hair claw, fake bun and phony pony. This is gonna be hard but with my post partum shedding this is probably the best thing I can do for my hair. I just gotta come up with good protective stlyes cuz I do like variety.:)

I'm in. I got a major haircut on Dec 31-an unwanted one, so I decided to do it then. This gives me more of an incentive to keep it up.

I'm in too. I currently have a weave and have had it since December 22. I plan on taking it out this weekend and getting some braids in the front (bigger than micros so as not to have issues with tension) and a sew-in in the back so I have the look of individual braids without the commitment of having it put it and taking it out. Can't wait until April when I plan on getting a PhytoRelaxer for the first time.

Moni

I'm bumping this thread as a reminder to make sure we're all obeying the challenge:D It's almost the end of month one! i got tempted the other to wear my hair out, but I decided against it. I can't believe that i've gone a whole month wearing my hair up, but I try to alternate between singe buns, and side buns. I may try a french roll next week when I flat iron my hair next week. Are you ladies "staying the course"(gosh, how many time have we heard THAT phrase in the past four years?) and keeping your hair hidden?:p

Hanging in there also - I pony tail with the ends under. but I need a pass as I am going on vacation the end of the month for a couple of days ...

Since I'm newly natural...I'm sooooo ready to take out this weave (especially because it's shedding) and play with my napps!!!!!!!:perplexed

I will be "staying the course" though!

Thanks for bumping it up.
I finally posted my starting pics in my fotki, even though I was having a bad time with my hair.
Has it been almost one month already? Time flies...

I'm "staying the course" but it's so hard!! I'm a newbie here and I've been reading so many helpful hints and learning all kinds of things about haircare here that I've NEVER heard before!! The ladies of LHCF are amazing! So, I got 2-strand twist extensions for my HYH challenge, but I'm sooo tempted to take them out because I'm scared my hair is not doing well under the twists. Plus I had some post-partum shedding around my edges and I'm worried that they may be adding too much tension, even though I took them loose redid them looser (Don't ask me what it looks like!). I have been spraying them daily with a mixture of African Pride Braid spray, Infusium 23 Leave-in and water mixed in a spray bottle. Then I cowash with Neutrogena Daily Deep Conditioner about once every 2 wks (I've done it two or three times), but I don't know if that's enough to keep it healthy/moisturized. I've had the twists in since 12/30, so only 3 1/2 wks. I wanna take them out and start trying to care for my hair myself with some of the techniques I've read about here, but I don't know if I'll be able to 1)tackle this new growth (I'm trying to stretch my relaxer out--last relaxer was 11/04--11 1/2 wks) and 2)style my hair in another protective style, since it's only right at shoulder length. I don't know what to do!!! I would feel guilty about taking my braids out this weekend at only 4 wks since they were so pricey!! But that would be better than losing my hair if it's not healthy under there. I've had cornrows in the past but that was when my hair was natural and stronger. I don't know about twists/braids with permed hair. What do y'all think??:perplexed

I'm still hiding!

I would think that your hair is okay under there. You sound like you're taking care of it and keeping it moisturized well. You say your twists aren't tight. And you had some new growth before getting them in. I was always told by my hairdresser that if I was going to get braids, to wait until I have some new growth so the braids will grip to my hair better. She said braiding (or weaving) too soon after a relaxer could cause your hair to snap. I wasn't taking any chances since my hair is already fine/thin by nature. And I had problems with too tight braids breaking it off in the past. I would say try to stick it out another week or two, but if you really feel you need to take the braids down then do it. I know you don't want your money to have gone to waste, but like you said that's better than your hair going down the drain.

A'ight Y'all! I'm in on this one! My hair has been box relaxed to death and is stringy and thin. Soooooooo, I'm looking for a way to stretch out this thin mess and move towards a big chop without too much breakage!!!!!!!!!!!

Bmoreflyy, Thanks for the reply! Yeah, maybe I'll keep them for about 3 more wks. We'll see. I'll keep with my current regimen. Except I am going to figure out which clarifying shampoo to use and start using it every other wk because when I took the twists in the front out some of my hair came out at the knot from the debris.
