Caress- based on the limited guide we are using I think they are all variations of 4a, except for so1903. I think she is a 3c/4a.

Ok good that's what I sorta thought but I wasn't completely sure about a couple of the ladies.

Both the 4a and 4b pics are on point
smile.gif
the sections of my hair that are 4a look alot like hers except she has bigger coils. The 4b pic looks exactly like the sections above both of my ears and my nape area
smile.gif
This is why i think i would be the whop fro girl if i ever go natural. because i have this "T" strip area of 4/a with two big sections of 4/b on each side of my head... my fro would look like Mr T instead of a BAA

Anywho, i like this much better. If you gotta label at least have good guidelines -- and these are very good.

I was looking through the hair albums thread. Can anyone help me out with the hairtypes of these particular ladies? (I hope these ladies don't mind me using them as examples. Their albums were posted before so it seemed ok to reference them.

I would say that Divastate, stephypoo, and deeplyrooted are 4as, and so1913's hair seems like 3b/3c range, and Carefree seems more like a 3 than a 4 to me, but I'm not sure.

I was unsure about Carefree as well though I agree with you about the others.

Kenesha, great examples!

Interesting thread. Like Kha - I had been thinking lately that I was a solid 3c based on the descriptions from NaturallyCurly. My hair is very similar to Kha's and Tai's so I guess I'll accept the 3b/c definition and get on with my life.

Kitchen_tician, I am not sure what your hair type is. I just want to compliment you on your beautiful hair. I have just finished looking at your hair album and your hair is GORGEOUS!!!!

Keep up the healthy hair habits.

N4U2LM is my hair twin. Just like I thought, I am definitely a 4a. I have a few different sized curls but I think it all falls into the 4a category.

Maybe it's just me, but Ayeshia looks like 3b to me instead of 3c in fact, it looks like a shorter version of Hairlove's!

I'm trying to think of a well known person on here with what i think of as 3c hair...I guess skeegesmb...ooh ooh that girl- what is her name...oh- velvethalo...perfect example of 3c!

Now I KNOW I'm a 4a! Although on LadyCapri's scale I would be a 3b

Edited to enter correct name of 3c example...

This is a great guide!

The majority of my new growth looks exactly like Tai's.

My hairline in the front is definitely 4a/b-ish, though. Very small, tight corkscrews that stand straight up.

It's weird because it only extends for less than a half inch and only in the front

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay, so what type are tight corkscrews that don't stand straight up? Ones that lie down..

Also, what's the difference between a corkscrew and a coil.. is a corkscrew like a spiral.. there are spaces on the curl?? and a coil is so tightly curled that there isn't a space?? Is that correct or no??

Are coils only on type 4 hair???

Thanks for any help..I'm still so confused..

Kha, our hair does look pretty similar. I can't wait until our October meeting, either. We have all the hair types represented there.

Hair typing can be a complicated thing. Some people appear to classify based on the curl size and hair appearance and some appear to classify by the way their hair feels. Then some appear to classify based on their hair after relaxing or texturizing. What type you consider yourself has a lot to do with what criteria you used to determine your hair type.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay wait a minute.. so hair type doesn't have to just deal with the curl pattern..it deals with the texture of the hair too? I have always thought it was the curl pattern.. guess I was wrong.. this stuff is so confusing.. I need a drink..
lachen70.gif

I define my hair by the curl pattern. But it appears to me that not everyone decides their hair type by curl pattern alone.

i dont think any of these albums look like my hair- and i call myself 4ab. i will try to take closeups of my hair.

Yes, very good thread. I think it's confirmed that I'm a 4b because my afro doesn't grow out like N42luvme However, I do still have definite curl coils when I stretch them. Also, I do have random 4a patches and a 3b/c patch in the back of my head.

Thanks girl

This was great. I think I'm a 3c with a lil 4a tnrown in at the crown. I dont really have enough new growth to tell.
